Charlize Theron talks ‘The Old Guard 3' hopes, ‘The Odyssey' role and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road' making-of film
Although the first film was not made with a sequel in mind, the success of the 2020 release led to The Old Guard 2, with Theron reprising her role as Andy.
The sequel, directed by Victoria Mahoney, sees Andy adjusting to her mortality while facing challenges alongside the return of Quỳnh and the arrival of Uma Thurman's character, Discord.
Theron says she is 'never confident' about a third film, noting, 'One thing I've learned in this business is that there are no guarantees.' She adds that while Netflix has supported their vision, there is currently 'no idea what that [third film] would even look like.'
Later this month, Theron will join the set of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, playing the sorceress Circe. She acknowledges feeling like 'the new kid on the block' but is excited by the scale of the production.
Reflecting on Furiosa, Theron praised Anya Taylor-Joy's portrayal while expressing that the recasting remained 'challenging' after having lived in the character's body for so long. She described Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga as 'absolutely beautiful.'
On a potential Mad Max: Fury Road making-of film, Theron agrees Mackenzie Davis would be an ideal choice to play her, stating, 'She's got the arms.'
Theron also confirmed the wrap of her new Netflix action film, Apex, highlighting its physically demanding challenges and her continued passion for action roles.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' faces backlash over ‘Napalm Era' lyric amid praise for Netflix debut
Since its release on Netflix on June 20, 2025, the animated musical fantasy film KPop Demon Hunters has received widespread praise for its engaging story and execution. However, the film has recently faced criticism over a lyric in its opening song, How It's Done, performed by Ejae, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna and written by Ejae, Danny Chung, and Mark Sonnenblick. The song plays during a scene where protagonists Rumi, Zoey, and Mira fight demons on their way to perform for a stadium of fans. While the track promotes themes of confidence and empowerment, it includes the lyric 'Fit check for my napalm era,' which has been criticised by Vietnamese viewers who have highlighted its insensitivity due to the historical context of the Vietnam War. Many Vietnamese viewers have taken to social media to express concerns, noting that the reference to 'napalm era' recalls the extensive use of napalm by the United States during the Vietnam War, leading to severe civilian casualties and long-term health impacts. Between 1963 and 1973, American forces dropped hundreds of thousands of tonnes of napalm in Vietnam, causing devastation across many regions. Napalm, a highly flammable substance that clings to the skin and burns at extremely high temperatures, became a symbol of the destruction associated with the war. Viewers are calling for greater awareness of the term's implications, particularly given the film's popularity in Vietnam. Despite the controversy, KPop Demon Hunters continues to perform strongly on Netflix, but the discussion around the lyric reflects ongoing conversations about historical sensitivity in global media.

‘Dandadan' Season 2 repeats disturbing scene in premiere, sparking fan debate
Dandadan has returned with its Season 2 premiere, and it has immediately reignited a long-standing controversy within its fanbase. Episode 1, 'Like, This is the Legend of the Giant Snake,' opens with Momo once again facing an attempted assault in a hot spring, mirroring the unsettling moment from Season 1 that divided viewers. Based on Yukinobu Tatsu's manga, Dandadan follows high schooler Momo and her friend Okarun as they face ghosts, aliens and supernatural chaos, mixing comedy, horror and action. Season 2 opens exactly where Season 1 ended, with Momo's peaceful hot spring moment interrupted by a group of men known as the 'gators'. The scene, which many fans consider one of the series' most disturbing, has sparked debate once again, as viewers discuss its place within the show's horror themes. In Dandadan, scenes that would usually be lighthearted in other anime instead carry real tension, showing the fear Momo feels while also highlighting her resilience. Even when caught off guard, Momo does not remain helpless. She fights back with determination, supported by the sharp-tongued Turbo Granny, and stands firm in protecting herself. Meanwhile, Okarun and Jiji face the sinister Kito Clan, who arrive at Jiji's family home with dark intentions and a connection to a monstrous creature beneath the house. The episode also delivers fast-paced martial arts action, with Momo using her psychic powers while facing her physical limitations as a teenager. Dandadan Season 2's premiere brings intense moments, supernatural threats and the courage of its characters to the forefront, setting the stage for an action-filled season ahead. Episode 2 is set to air on July 10 on Netflix and Crunchyroll.
