MAFS stars Awhina Rutene and Billy Belcher reveal surprising new collaboration amid romance speculation: 'Gonna be spicy!'

Daily Mail10 hours ago

Married At First Sight stars Awhina Rutene and Billy Belcher have revealed a surprising collaboration.
Just under three months after their stint on the Channel Nine reality juggernaut, the pair are making a return to the small screen.
This time around though, they'll be helping Perth-based singletons find love in a new YouTube dating series called 1Rose.
Announcing the upcoming series on Instagram with a casting call this week, organisers revealed that the series was an extension of their intimate, speed-dating events.
'If you've been to our events, you know the experience,' the announcement post read.
From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop.
'But for the show, we're switching things up with a fresh new setting, exciting new elements, and unexpected twists.'
The post went on to explain that each show would feature 16 singles looking for a potential love match.
'At the end of the night, you'll have your 1ROSE to give to someone who sparked your interest,' the post concluded.
Commenting on the announcement, Billy, 32, wrote: 'Gonna be spicy, this!' while Awhina, 30, simply offered three love heart emojis.
Neither MAFS star will be in the running, however, with Billy taking on the role of host while Awhina handles the commentary duties.
Speaking to Perth Now about the new venture, Awhina said the fast-paced events would take a lot of the 'grunt work' out of awkward social situations.
'It's not like when you go to a bar or nightclub and you're trying to gauge whether someone's in a relationship or not, and whether they're just out for fun,' she said.
'And then there's also those questions that you don't necessarily ask when you're out at a bar. So I guess it takes a lot of the grunt work out of it.'
The publication also reported that the events would feature many twists and turns, including cash prizes, surprise rounds, and hidden matches for each participant, based on pre-selected criteria.
Awhina added that her MAFS co-star could not wait to take on hosting duties, likening him to a 'golden retriever at the moment.'
'I know it's a dating event, and the singles are there to get to know each other, but Billy likes to be the main character,' she said.
The announcement comes amid speculation that Awhina and Billy are more than friends.
Most recently, the pair sent the rumour mill into overdrive after enjoying a cosy date night in Perth earlier this month.
Awhina shared a series of loved-up snaps on Instagram with Billy during an outing to The Garden in Perth – further igniting speculation that their friendship has turned romantic.
In one mirror selfie taken in an elevator, Awhina looked sensational in a figure-hugging black mini dress with long sleeves, her sleek brunette hair cascading past her shoulders.
Beside her, Billy cut a rugged figure in a sleeveless black top that showed off his tattooed arms, as he embraced Awhina from behind and beamed at the camera.
'It's not like when you go to a bar or nightclub and you're trying to gauge whether someone's in a relationship or not, and whether they're just out for fun,' Awhina told Perth Now
Another photo showed the MAFS beauty sipping a glass of red wine at the trendy bar, while a cheeky Billy hid behind a drinks menu.
Fans of the reality show erupted with excitement in the comments, thrilled that the pair many felt should have been matched on the show might have finally found love with each other.
Many viewers have long suspected Awhina and Billy's chemistry, noting that the MAFS experts got it wrong by not pairing them in the first place.
This flurry of fan enthusiasm comes after months of speculation about the duo's relationship.
Both Awhina and Billy are based in Western Australia, and they struck up a close bond during the marriage experiment.
Their respective on-screen marriages famously imploded when it was revealed that Awhina's TV husband, Adrian Araouzou, and Billy's wife, Sierah Swepstone, had been secretly meeting up behind their backs during filming.
The betrayal left Awhina and Billy heartbroken, and the pair chose to leave the experiment separately amid the drama.

Gemma Collins left 'terrified' after being sent 'rat poison' in the post as TOWIE star ups security at her mansion following menacing letter earlier this month

Gemma Collins has been left 'terrified' after she was sent rat poison in the post as her stalking hell intensifies. The reality star, 44, is said to be 'reeling' after a package containing the toxicant was delivered to her Essex home. Gemma is believed to have reported the incident to police after a 'nasty' glittery note was also found inside the package. A source told The Sun: 'The package was really scary and she was terrified to receive it. 'It was delivered by the postman, but had no postage stamp on it. 'Gemma was worried as it contained rat poison, especially as she has animals at her home.' The reality star, 44, is said to be 'reeling' after a package containing the toxicant was delivered to her Essex home MailOnline has contacted a rep for Gemma for comment. It comes after it was revealed how Gemma was forced to call in police after previously being left 'terrified' by a nasty letter delivered to her home. A source close to the reality star told The Sun how the note detailed the twisted sender's strong dislike for Gemma. After the menacing letter, Gemma was said to have beefed up security at her mansion and police were investigating. Gemma, who was a car dealer before shooting to fame when she landed a role on ITV's The Only Way Is Essex, previously spoke about her experience with stalking. She told how she's had 'scary' people turn up at her shop in Essex and send her terrifying letters. She told how it 'played havoc on her mind' and was the reason she stepped away from her front of house work at her boutique in Brentwood. Appearing on the Daily Mail's Everything I Know About Me Podcast, Gemma said: 'No one would believe the bl**dy crap I've had to deal with. 'I've had a woman stalker that wrote me a letter in white gloves and wanted to kill me. 'You know, people would wish me dead. I'd get all sorts turn up at the shop. Weird. People are weird. And that's why in a way I came away from my shop in the end.' In 2019, Gemma was forced to move out of her home in Essex over stalking fears, with removal vans being pictured at the property at the time. She had been stalked by a man that previously fat-shamed her. It comes after Gemma recently told fans how she had been struck down with pneumonia as she explained her absence from social media. Gemma explained that her condition had been leaving her breathless 'really quickly' but due to medics diagnosing it as viral, antibiotics would be ineffective. She told The Mirror: 'It's shocking, I've had it now for over three weeks and I had steroids given to me by my doctor. It was DJ Fat Tony's wedding and I had to take them to get through that,' 'But I'm off them now and the sickness is really kicking back in. It's so frustrating because I normally have so much energy and I'm always loving life, but now I get really breathless really quickly and I feel like I'm dying.' Pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by an infection. Most people get better in two to four weeks, but babies, older people, and people with heart or lung conditions are at risk of getting seriously ill and may need treatment in hospital. Taking to her Stories Gemma shared snaps as she underwent X-rays while praising medical staff for their care. She wrote: 'Thank you to all the amazing doctors helping me your real life angels'. Announcing the news of her condition on Wednesday, Gemma shared a photo of herself in bed looking poorly in bed. She wrote: 'Hey guys sorry been quiet i have Pneumonia. I'm not as fast or on it as I usually am on the daily. 'I am still honouring my work commitments which is taking every bit of energy I have but will be back entertaining you all soon.' On her Story she added an update as she showed she was on a drip and had been visited by a doctor. One post that showed a drip in her arm read: 'I'm having to take it easy which is not like me very slow and get so out of breath and tired so quick.' WHAT IS PNEUMONIA? Pneumonia is a type of chest infection that affects the tiny air sacs in the lungs. The condition causes these sacs to be become inflammed and fill with fluid, making it harder to breathe. Pneumonia is caused by bacteria or viruses, with the most common being Streptococcus pneumoniae. It affects between five and 11 out of every 1,000 adults every year in the UK. Anyone can suffer from pneumonia, however, at-risk groups include: Babies and young children People over 65 Those with long-term heart, lung or kidney disease People with cancer, particularly those having chemotherapy Smokers Those on drugs that suppress their immune systems Antibiotics or mechanical ventilator use in hospitals also raise the risk. Symptoms include Coughing up mucus Fever Chest pain Loss of appetite Fatigue In severe cases, sufferers may cough up blood, vomit or have a rapid heart rate. Treatment is usually antibiotics, which may need to be given intravenously in hospital in severe cases.

‘A superb place to sit and enjoy': Ballarat church could be reborn as performing arts hub — if artists can raise $2m

Hundreds of people packed the pews of the main chapel of Ballarat's Neill Street Uniting church for its final service in February 2023. But some in the congregation, which had been meeting on the site since it began as a Methodist church in 1861, could already see its next life. Jill Loveland, whose family's involvement with the church dates back to the late 1800s, says her father, Winston Loveland – who was an active member of the church for 96 years – always said the space should be used for performing arts. 'He knew there were lots of buildings to maintain and that it would become unsustainable at some point,' Loveland says. 'So he openly expressed that he thought it would become a wonderful performing arts venue long before there was talk of the church closing. 'He could see how the acoustics of the main church and the beautiful interior were just superb for a place to sit and enjoy.' When the church came up for sale, a group of local creatives saw it as an opportunity to form an association aimed at supporting and developing the local performing arts scene. And so the Ballarat Performing Arts Community was born. 'Members of the church community didn't want to see it sold privately,' says Bpac's general manager, Beth Lamont. 'They were really hoping to see it continue as a community space and they were fully in support of arts organisations using it. 'It just so happens that all of the arts organisations want to use it.' Lamont says the association approached the church and successfully secured a licence agreement in July 2024. Since then, the site has become a community hub for about 20 creative organisations and more than 90 individuals. The Neill Street site has one church, two halls, a caretaker's cottage and 3,000 sq m of land. Its main chapel boasts a 19th-century Fincham and Hobday pipe organ and is one of the largest organs in Ballarat. The space is now being used for performances, mentoring, galas and events. 'The church has a lot of properties and they're hoping to consolidate,' Lamont says. Bpac is on a mission to raise $2m to secure the future of its home base through a dedicated crowdfunding appeal. So far, it has raised just $38,000. The organisation is asking people to pledge to make a contribution after the appeal ends on 31 October – but only if it receives enough pledges to make the full amount. Jeff Moran, a board member and appeal director, says they are approaching clubs, advertising, campaigning to government and philanthropic institutions and staging galas and events to help raise the funds. 'The church has said we'll let you lease it on the understanding that after the lease period we purchase it for a stated price of $2m,' Moran says. 'In good faith, we're setting out to raise it. We need to be known in the community. We've got to do absolutely everything and as far and wide as we can.' Loveland says if the property was to stand vacant, it ran the risk of becoming derelict and falling into disrepair. 'The developer could make use of it, but at what cost? How long would it take … given there was no sign of interest during the first round?' she says. 'I think good on Bpac for giving it their best shot. 'It would be a pity to have so much potential [wasted].' Tim Ryan, a Bpac board member, says the sites on the property – including the chapel, which seats 300, and the main hall, which seats 150 – would suit organisations seeking more affordable and intimate venues. 'That's a really important part of that fabric of performing arts where you can have that laboratory to try things out and we can do that here,' he says. 'There's this diversity of space which creates this diversity of product.' The City of Ballarat's community infrastructure plan says the city should investigate the need for a new live performance venue of less than 300 seats. The city's director of economy and experience, Martin Darcy, says they have been working closely with Bpac about their plans for the church. 'All requests for funding must be assessed through a rigorous process which is either connected to a grants program, budget process or a council-approved action from a strategy,' he says. He added that the strategy 'outlines council's commitment to support the theatre and performing arts, as well as all creative communities in the city'. Ryan says Bpac aims to 'be a voice' lobbying for greater support for the performing arts in the regional city. 'There's still lots of work to be done, especially around diversity in the arts, but at least we acknowledge that there's a bit of a gap and we've got to work towards that,' he says
