Dak Prescott once looked like the ruler of the NFC East. While he had a strong rivalry with former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz early on in his career, it was short-lived. The New York Giants dealt with a transition from Eli Manning to Daniel Jones, and the Washington Commanders spent years cycling through options in an attempt to find somebody who would stick.
While all that was happening, the Cowboys gladly stuck with Prescott. These days, though, the Dallas quarterback seems to be falling behind. With years of postseason shortcomings and a recent injury that caused a nine-game absence in 2024, the love is barely there for Prescott from a national standpoint.
NFL Analyst Nick Shook recently ranked the quarterbacks of each division to weigh the strength of the position on a divisional basis. The NFC East is strong up top, but when it reaches Prescott, that's where the question marks happen.
"In many previous years, Prescott would be the unquestioned top quarterback among the four," Shook wrote.
"Instead, after missing nine games in 2024, he's third among this group, according to the year-end QBI rankings, and is going to need a strong bounceback season to usurp the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year (Daniels) and Super Bowl LIX MVP (Hurts). That's how high the bar is in the NFC East."

Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys walks off the field after a loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on November 03, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. The 31-year-old Prescott entered the NFL with low expectations in 2016. While the media debated Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, who went one and two that year, the fourth-round Prescott ended up shining brighter than both, winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
It was a dream season for the Cowboys, who finished 13-3 that year. Prescott completed 68 percent of his passes for over 3,600 yards and tossed 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions.
Prescott has been consistent throughout his career—but he hasn't been good enough to propel the Cowboys to the same heights as his rookie year. Since winning 13 games in 2016, the Cowboys have notched double-digit wins with Prescott under center just three other times in eight seasons.
In 2023, Prescott was having an impressive run as he completed a career-high 70 percent of his passes throughout the year. He threw for over 4,500 for just the second time. He led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes and turned it over via interception fewer than 10 times.
After finishing 12-5, the Cowboys looked ready to make a deep run. They ended up being one-and-done. Unfortunately, Prescott's bounce-back year ended after just eight games. Dallas had notched a record of just 3-5 when he went down.
As Prescott approaches new lows in his career, his NFC East peers have been on a tear. Jayden Daniels took over the league by storm, just as Prescott did during his rookie campaign. Jalen Hurts fought through a season full of criticism and ended up leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl, where he was named the MVP.
The only player Prescott has beaten out in this case is Russell Wilson. This season, Wilson joins the New York Giants as a one-year rental after his lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Although there have been rumblings of a strong spring for the former Pro Bowler, there has been more buzz surrounding a future benching for Wilson, more than anything. For Prescott to be ranked only four spots higher than Wilson at this stage is concerning.
If Prescott is motivated by bulletin board material, then he'll get what he needs this year. Being the only NFC East starting passer without an NFC Championship appearance under his belt, Prescott is losing his juice in the division as a new set of passers take the spotlight.

NFL Writer Highlights Concerning Theories For Eagles' Saquon Barkley

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When it comes to fantasy football predictions, fans might simply look the other way as the team's success is all that matters to them at the end of the day. But when a player was so critical to a team's success throughout the year, it's worth reading some interesting predictions and theories. A recent prediction regarding Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is something that "Birds" fans will have to wonder about. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport labeled Barkley as a potential bust candidate for the 2025 NFL season. The word comes off as a bit dramatic because, again, it's fantasy football, but regression is regression, and "the Curse of 370" was explained. Read More: Jalen Hurts Praised For Uplifting An Eagles Star Through Uncertainty "Since 2007, there have been 25 instances where a running back surpassed 370 touches in a season. Of that group, only two gained more total yardage the following year. An equal number saw an increase in PPR points. That's less than 10 percent who increased their production," wrote Davenport. "Then, there's the '2K Club.' Of the eight RBs to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, not one gained even 1,500 rushing yards the following year. Six of those backs missed time the following season. The average decline in rushing yards after a 2,000-yard campaign? 966 yards. Forty-seven percent." And you thought the infamous "Madden Curse" was concerning. Apply the BetMGM bonus code NEWSWEEK1500 at registration to score a $1,500 bet the good news for the Eagles: a production regression is almost expected this year, since Barkley literally teased NFL history in 2024. Had the veteran running back played through the entire regular season, taking on his average of 22 carries during the final week of the regular season, Barkley would've broken a record that hasn't been touched since 1984. The Eagles won't see too much turnover up front, meaning they'll head into the 2025 NFL season with one of the best offensive lines in the game. Without any setbacks in play since last the Eagles' Super Bowl run, Barkley is healthy heading into the new year. He could be poised for another big year, even if he doesn't have another 2,000-plus rushing year. Across six seasons with the New York Giants, Barkley exceeded 1,000 yards three times. Last year, he rushed for 2,005 yards with a career-high 345 carries. He surpassed his previous career-high in carries by 50 touches. Browns' Jerry Jeudy Trying to Stay Flexible Amid QB Troubles

Browns' Jerry Jeudy Trying to Stay Flexible Amid QB Troubles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are the team in the NFL that has the most quarterbacks on their roster with five. Even though Deshaun Watson is injured, there will still be four guys competing for the starting spot in 2025. Advertisement And that is not exactly an easy thing for a wide receiver to deal with. In a recent interview with ESPN, Browns Pro Bowl wideout Jerry Jeudy talked a bit about what it's like dealing with a QB situation like this. And he did not leave anything out, as he said how he truly feels. "It is pretty difficult because you want to always build that relationship with a quarterback and have that consistency throughout the years," Jeudy said. "But as a receiver going through that, you just got to keep working and you got to learn how to adjust no matter what. Some situations ain't going to go as planned, so you just got to figure out how to just keep going and stay on the right path." The importance of a good connection between a quarterback and a receiver cannot be understated. But having to get build that kind of connection with four guys cannot be an easy task. Advertisement But despite some less-than-stellar quarterback play from the Browns this past season, Jeudy was still able to be one of the better receivers in the NFL. He finished with 1,229 yards, which placed him sixth in the league, as well as four touchdowns. Jeudy will be looking to follow up his Pro Bowl season with another good year in 2025, no matter who it is throwing him the ball. Browns Urged To Make Major QB Decision

Browns Urged To Make Major QB Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are not the only team in the NFL with some considerable quarterback questions heading into next season. However, theirs has pretty clearly become the most convoluted. Advertisement Cleveland added four new quarterbacks through the offseason after learning Deshaun Watson had considerable setbacks in his recovery from an Achilles injury. Now, it's veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Picket along with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders making up the quarterback totem pole. Many are wondering how this competition will work out through training camp and the remainder of the offseason. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio has come out strong against the idea of the Browns keeping all four, suspecting the team has attempted to build leverage here. 'I think that's lucdacris. Having four quarterbacks on your roster?' Florio said. 'I think they're trying to build some trade leverage." Florio believes that one of Flacco or Pickett must be gone before the start of the season in order to help Sanders and Gabriel progress in their development. Advertisement 'Between Flacco and Pickett, one of them has to go. They have to go,' Florio said. 'Because I don't want the presence of both of them to undermine my effort to see what I have in Gabriel and Sanders. They don't have enough reps to go around to get everyone ready.' It's hard to imagine one of these four not being squeezed out by the time the final 53-man roster decisions are made. But if the goal is to build leverage off the veteran assets, how exactly would the Browns trade one of them? Flacco is an aged quarterback with little demand elsewhere and the market for Pickett will not turn any heads either. Simultaneously, nothing says the Browns should be married to the pair of rookies either. Losing Gabriel or Sanders would be a noticeable swing and miss but both were late Day 2 and Day 3 picks. Certainly not ideal, but the Browns could do worse in using these assets. Advertisement And if the hopes to be competitive next season do not work out in their favor, there's a a better class of quarterback prospects waiting in next year's draft. The Browns have some freedom to explore what they have this season and by no means should be forced to spoon feed opportunities to the rookies if they are not deserving. There's no need to force a move just for the sake of doing so.
