Man to appear in court for allegedly setting two women ablaze
The incident has left two women fighting for their lives in hospital with severe burn injuries. A 35-year-old man IN Mpumalanga will face two charges of attempted murder when he appears at the Emalahleni Magistrate's Court on Tuesday following his arrest for allegedly setting two women on fire. The suspect was arrested by police in connection with a brutal attack that took place on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at approximately 6pm. The incident has left two women fighting for their lives in the hospital with severe burn injuries. Victims include mother of suspect's children Police reports indicate the accused allegedly set fire to two women. The first victim is a 21-year-old woman who is the mother of his children. The second victim is a 23-year-old woman who is said to be related to the suspect, who reportedly became a casualty while attempting to intervene in the attack. Police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli confirmed the severity of the victims' conditions. 'After the incident, the two female victims sustained serious burn wounds and were taken to hospital by a community member,' Mdhluli said. Both women remain in critical condition. 'The two women are currently fighting for their lives in hospital,' Mdhluli stated. Investigators moved quickly to track down the perpetrator. The suspect was arrested just three hours after the incident occurred, demonstrating rapid police response to the crime. Goodwood drug bust nets R54. 3 million worth of Tik and heroin

Image: Supplied Two foreign nationals are expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after police seized a total of R54.3 million worth of drugs. The Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said the bust comes after an intelligence-driven operation in the area. 'At approximately 1.45pm, members attached to Operation Restore operationalised information which led them to a residence situated at Molteno Street in Goodwood where they initiated a search of the premises. During the search, the members discovered and seized 6kg of heroin, which was found in a cupboard in one of the rooms,' Pojie said. The heroin and tik seized during the raid at a home in Goodwood. Image: SAPS A 32-year-old Tanzanian national who was an occupant of the room was arrested and charged for dealing in heroin with an estimated street value go about R1 million. As police officers extended the search to another bedroom, they found more heroin. 'Officers found 100 grams of heroin with an estimated value of R16,000. This led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national for the possession of drugs,' Pojie said. He said the officers continued to search the home and came across more contraband. 'The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin found in the roof of the residence. The estimated street value is R53.3 million, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3million,' Pojie said. He said the investigation in this matter is being conducted by the narcotics section located within the Provincial Organised Crime Unit detectives. Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile welcomed the arrests and praised the members for their efforts to rid the streets of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking. IEC rejects former ANC MP Boy Mamabolo's ‘Mandela for President' party registration
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has rejected former ANC MP Jacob Boy Mamabolo's registration of his new party 'Mandela for President'. The IEC said Mamabolo applied for registration but was rejected due to his failure to meet basic requirements to register a new party and concerns about the name. 'The IEC clarifies the party 'Mandela for President' applied for registration but was rejected for non-compliance with signature requirements and the threshold of required registered voters,' the IEC said. 'Furthermore, the name 'Mandela for President' with associated green and black colours may be construed by voters as connected to founding president Nelson Mandela.' The IEC highlighted inconsistencies with regard to the founding convener's details. 'Discrepancies exist between the party's constitutional documentation and our registration records regarding party leadership. In the preamble of their constitution the party proclaims their founding convener is Mandela Jacob Boy Mamabolo. However, in our registration records in respect of the party leader he appears as only Jacob Boy Mamabolo, which suggests a material aspect in the registration of the party may have been misrepresented. The party remains unregistered.'
