Eritrea: Nationals Abroad Commemorate Martyrs Day
Eritrean nationals in Italy, France, the Netherlands, South Africa, Belgium, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the US commemorated Martyrs Day by renewing their pledges and contributing towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund and supporting families of martyrs.
At commemorative events held in various South African cities, nationals contributed 36,510 Rand towards the Martyrs Trust Fund and pledged an additional 16,000 Rand. Three nationals also pledged to assume responsibility for supporting one martyr's family each.
Nationals in various cities across Italy expressed their readiness to uphold the trust of the martyrs and contributed 39,000 Euros.
Eritreans residing in several cities in France commemorated Martyrs Day with various programs honoring the martyrs who gave their lives for Eritrea's independence and sovereignty. They also made material contributions towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.
At a commemorative event organized by nationals in the Netherlands, over 53,000 Euros were contributed in support of the Martyrs Trust Fund and 24 families of martyrs.
Similarly, nationals in the US cities of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Cincinnati, Ohio, commemorated Martyrs Day. Nationals in Harrisburg contributed 3,055 US Dollars in support of martyrs' families.
Nationals in Belgium, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe also marked Martyrs Day with candlelight vigils and walkathon programs.

South Africa to participate at the 4th International Conference on the Financing for Development in Spain
At the invitation of the President Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón of the Government of Spain and United Nations Secretary - General António Guterres, the South African government, led by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Ronald Lamola will lead South Africa's participating delegation to the 4th International Conference on the Financing for Development Summit that is taking place in Seville on 30 June 2025 - 3 July 2025. South Africa seeks to advance through cooperation and collaboration, sustainable solutions to tackle high structural deficits and liquidity challenges and to extend debt relief to developing economies which disproportionately affects countries in Africa. This event will bring together leading voices from various debt-related initiatives to identify synergies and areas of convergence. It will seek consensus and highlight solutions that enjoy broad support. Eritrea: Seminars by Ms. Tekea Tesfamariam in Various Sub-zones
Ms. Tekea Tesfamariam, President of the National Union of Eritrean Women, conducted seminars for women in the sub-zones of Nakfa, Adoha, and Afabet in the Northern Red Sea Region. The seminars, which were held from 24 to 27 June, focused on the history of women in general and Eritrean women in particular, highlighting the progress they have achieved, the sacrifices made, and their future prospects. During the seminars, Ms. Tekea elaborated on the discrimination and unequal treatment that Eritrean women have historically faced due to religion, culture, and traditional beliefs. She also outlined the efforts made during the armed struggle for independence to raise awareness on women's issues, as well as the post-independence measures taken by the Eritrean Government to promote gender equality and ensure women's participation in all sectors. Ms. Tekea called on young women to honor the legacy of their mothers by equipping themselves with the necessary education and skills and to strive for complete emancipation. The participants held extensive discussions on the issues raised during the seminars and expressed their commitment to actively contribute to the goals of the Union. The sub-zonal administrators also expressed their readiness to support the realization of the objectives of the National Union of Eritrean Women. 71 killed in Israeli strike on Tehran's Evin Prison, Iran says
Israel's attack on the Evin Prison in Iran's capital Tehran on June 23 killed 71 people, Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said on Sunday. At the end of an air war with Iran, Israel struck Tehran's most notorious jail for political prisoners, in a demonstration that it was expanding its targets beyond military and nuclear sites to aim at symbols of Iran's ruling system. "In the attack on Evin prison, 71 people were martyred including administrative staff, youth doing their military service, detainees, family members of detainees who were visiting them and neighbours who lived in the prison's vicinity," Jahangir said in remarks carried on the judiciary's news outlet Mizan. Jahangir had previously said that part of Evin prison's administrative building had been damaged in the attack and people were killed and injured. The judiciary added that remaining detainees had been transferred to other prisons in Tehran province. Evin prison holds a number of foreign nationals, including two French citizens detained for three years. "The strike targeting Evin prison in Tehran, put our citizens Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris in danger. It is unacceptable," France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot had said on social media X after the attack.
