Dean Cain reveals racist slur he was called after being cast as Superman

Daily Mail5 days ago
Dean Cain has opened up about a racist slur used against him after he won the role as the lead in the popular 1990s show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
The actor, 58, who trashed the current Superman film starring David Corenswet as 'woke' before seeing it, revealed the nasty way a fan of the show once criticized him for being cast as the Man of Steel.
'It was 1993 and I remember a fan going, "We wanted Superman, not Sushi Man,"' he told Variety in a story published on Tuesday.
Cain, whose biological father was a Japanese American serviceman, told the publication he was not offended by the comment.
'For the love of God, he's a Kryptonian. He could be green. Does it matter?' he asked after sharing his dismay over Hollywood's focus on firsts i.e., his being the first Japanese American to wear the red cape, Henry Cavill was the first British Superman and Corenswet as the first Jewish Man of Steel.
'For Superman, it was 'truth, justice in the American way.' Well, they dropped that … I don't think is a great idea,' Cain complained to TMZ prior to the film's theatrical debut.
'I think if you want to create a new character, go ahead and do that. But for me, Superman has always stood for 'truth, justice, and the American way.' '
The actor who is a Trump supporter, and has been friends with the President since he was a judge at the Miss Universe pageant in 2009, said he also took issue with writer and director James Gunn's description of the plot as an immigrant story.
'We know Superman is an immigrant — he's a freaking alien,' he said.
Despite criticism from Cain and other conservative commentators, Superman has done quite well at the box office.
The action-adventure written and directed by James Gunn had has earned more than $503.5 million globally, although it did not fare as well in international markets as it did domestically, according to Box Office Mojo.
'Superman has always been identified as an American character, and in some parts of the world, America is currently not enjoying its greatest popularity,' David A. Gross, of the movie consulting firm FranchiseRe told Variety after it opened at number one.
Cain who has moved to Las Vegas after selling his Malibu home in May 2023 has opened up for the first time about being sexually harassed while starring in Lois & Clark.
'I could have had the biggest sexual harassment lawsuit in Hollywood history,' he claimed, but did not say who had harassed him or how.

Lois & Clark came to an abrupt end in in 1997 after season four although he had already written several for a season five with plans for him to direct as well.
Cain has spent the better part of his post-Superman career starring in faith based films.
Most had small budgets, but they allowed the actor the opportunity to be a hands-on parent for his son, Christopher, now 25, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend, former Playboy model Samantha Torres.
'If you're making shows like The Chosen, or you're making a lot of these faith-based movies that I make, you're putting out content that affects people in what I would consider a very positive way, with good, strong morals and values,' he said.

Adam Sandler can't resist casting his nepo daughters! Teens Sunny and Sadie have starring roles in the new Happy Gilmore 2 - and have appeared in at least 20 of the actor's films

Adam Sandler delighted fans with the recent release of Happy Gilmore 2, but he wasn't the only Sandler entertaining viewers. The American actor's two daughters with his wife, Jackie, Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 16, were also stars of the new Netflix comedy film, which followed the golfer's life after his Tour Championship win. However, it's far from the their first time on a film set, because the two have starred in many of their father's much-loved productions. It's not just recent roles either. The pair have collaborated with their father from a very young age, with Sadie appearing in the 2008 film Don't Mess with the Zohan at two years old. Throughout their childhood, the duo has gone on to star in tens of their father's films, including Grown Ups, Hotel Transylvania, and Jack and Jill. In the second Happy Gilmore film, Adam's children took centre stage, with Sadie playing Charlotte, a woman Happy meets in a group therapy session, and his youngest playing his on-screen daughter, Charlotte Gilmore. However, Sunny and Sadie didn't always secure such high-flying roles, and they have previously made such small cameos that even the die-hard Sandler fans might struggle to spot them. Here, Femail delves into the very starry careers of Sunny and Sadie at just 16 and 19 years old. Adam Sandler isn't the only star in his family, and his daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, are becoming breakout stars in their own right, thanks to their father casting them in many of his most famous productions (pictured: Sunny in You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah) 19-year-old Sadie hasn't experienced a typical childhood, and she made her first film debut as a toddler in her father's 2008 movie, Don't Mess with the Zohan, where she played the Girl Riding On Goat. Then, she starred as the Sweetest Medieval Girl of All Time in 2008's Bedtime Stories and was Tardio's daughter in Grown Ups. In 2011's smash hit comedy Just Go with It, with Jennifer Aniston, Sadie played a girl on the rope bridge. That same year, she starred as the little girl on the ship in the comedy film Jack and Jill. In 2012, she undertook the role of the lemonade stand kid in That's My Boy and voiced young Mavis in Hotel Transylvania, which included Selena Gomez as the teen Mavis. One year later, she played Sadie Tardio in Grown Ups 2, and the year after, she was a little league announcer in Blended. In 2015, she starred in three major film productions: Pixels, Hotel Transylvania 2 and The Ridiculous 6. After that, she was in The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, and Hotel Transylvania 3 over the next few years. Sunny Sandler (seen in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah) has worked with her father since she was a toddler Sunny took on the role of her her father's on-screen daughter, Charlotte Gilmore, in Happy Gilmore 2 (pictured) The 19-year-old starred as Charlotte in her father's recent Netflix hit - Happy Gilmore 2 (pictured) In 2019, she worked alongside her father and Jennifer Aniston in Murder Mystery as Summer. After that, the budding actress worked as part of the cast for The Wrong Missy and Hubie Halloween. In a recent film, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, she took on a bigger role as Ronnie Friedman before voicing a character in the 2023 film Leo and starring in Happy Gilmore 2. Meanwhile, her younger sister Sunny has also taken on a slew of impressive acting roles from a young age. Adam and Jackie Sandler welcomed Sunny into the world on November 2, 2008 - five months after Sadie made her big screen debut. Two years later, Sunny made her debut in the 2010 blockbuster Grown Ups as Tardio's daughter and has since added over a dozen film credits. In 2011, Sunny appeared alongside her older sister in Just Go with It as part of the family who appeared on the rope bridge, and in Jack and Jill as a little girl. A few years later, the 16-year-old starred in That's My Boy, Grown Ups 2, Blended and lent her voice to Hotel Transylvania. She later appeared in The Do-Over as Lola, in The Week of as Eva, and in Hotel Transylvania 3. In 2019 and 2020, Sunny joined her father and sister on Murder Mystery and The Wrong Missy. She then starred in Hubie Halloween as Cooky, in Hustle as a young girl, before taking on a leading role in Netflix's You're So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah and Happy Gilmore 2. The Happy Gilmore sequel, directed by Kyle Newacheck, also starred original cast members Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Ben Stiller. Other notable names in the film included Goldie Hawn, Ben Stiller, Kevin Nealon, Ken Jennings, and Benny Safdie. Eminem, Cam'ron and Post Malone are among the notable musicians who are in the cast, according to the streaming service. The sports comedy also features dozens of cameos from prominent celebrities across multiple fields, such as NFL standout and Taylor Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and former NFL standout and Kim Kardashian's ex, Reggie Bush. The world of golf is also well-represented, with a number of prominent golf players in the film. They include Paige Spiranac, John Daly, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, among others. Professional wrestling fans will also be pleased to see cameos from stars such as Nikki Bella, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Becky Lynch. Elsewhere, Adam Sandler fans are also only just finding out that he has starred alongside his wife Jackie Sandler in over 20 of his films. The Uncut Gems actor, 58, has made a conscious effort to appear alongside his other half over the past two decades, with many cinemagoers keeping an eye out for her cameos, which they've likened to Easter eggs. Jackie, 50, has appeared in several of Adam's movies, including 50 First Dates (2004), where she played a dentist, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007), in which she was a teacher, and Grown Ups (2010), where she played Richie Minervini's on-screen wife. Despite frequently having to watch Adam kiss other women on set, the producer insists his wife doesn't get jealous of his on-screen romances. 'The only awkward part is hearing my wife on the side going, "Harder! Harder! Kiss her harder! Deeper," he told the Associated Press in 2019, while promoting his hit Netflix film, Murder Mystery, which he starred in alongside Jennifer Aniston.

Denise Welch breaks down in street with son after backlash to Taylor Swift comments

Loose Women star Denise Welch recently opened up about her son Matty Healey's relationship with Taylor Swift and the TV star was spotted having an intense conversation with Loose Women star Denise Welch has been seen breaking down in the street with her son after backlash to Taylor Swift comments. The TV star was seen with her famous son Matty Healy in West Hollywood this week. ‌ The 67-year-old has recently faced criticism from Taylor's fans after making a dig at how she tends to write songs about her exes. She also hinted that Taylor's fans often lash out at anyone that makes a negative comment about her. ‌ Now, Denise has been spotted looking emotional while chatting to her son Matty outside a restaurant in West Hollywood on Thursday. It comes after Sharon Osbourne breaks down in tears at Ozzy's funeral in heartbreaking scenes. ‌ In images shared by TMZ, Denise was seen blowing her nose and dabbing at her eyes with a tissue as she spoke to Matty, before hugging the 1975 singer. A source told the issue that Matty was consoling his mother about a family issue. ‌ Matty sat beside his mum after they went out to dinner together along with Matty's fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel. The mother-son duo looked to be having a deep conversation while Matty smoked a cigarette. The pair then stood up and had a long hug before going back inside. It is unknown exactly why Denise was upset, but a source reportedly told TMZ: "There was a family matter that Matty was consoling his mother about." ‌ Denise appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live last month where she was asked about Taylor's latest album The Tortured Poets Department. Denise told host Andy Cohen: "Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost." Audience members were surprised by the statement, but Denise then went on to clarify what she meant. She said: "Not that I have anything against [Taylor] at all! It was just – it was tricky. Listen, you're not allowed to say anything." ‌ Taylor and Matty, 36, first sparked a romantic relationship after she split from her long-term boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn, back in April 2023. However, the relationship wasn't to last and now Taylor is with NFL star Travis Kelce, while Matty himself is now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel. Despite not dating until 2023, Taylor and Matty actually first met years before. The two reportedly met when Taylor attended a 1975 show in Los Angeles in 2014. Then in 2022 rumors began circulating that Matty would be featured on Taylor's album Midnights. There was some truth to this as Matty said he has collaborated with Taylor on some music in the studio but it was never published in the end. However, their friendship stayed strong as Taylor went on to make a surprise appearance on stage at a 1975 concert. It's unknown whether the duo remain on friendly terms after their split.
