Hajiji delivering his address at the 74th official birthday celebration of the Head of State, Tun (Dr) Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday.
KOTA KINABALU (June 21): The State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to driving inclusive and holistic development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, aimed at ensuring sustainable progress and the wellbeing of the people.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the SMJ initiative has yielded significant impact since its introduction, particularly in economic recovery, investment growth, agriculture, human capital development and social welfare.
'Alhamdulillah, we are witnessing a surge in investment activity and an increase in state revenue over the past few years. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the government's strategic approach,' he said.
Hajiji said this in his speech during the 74th official birthday celebration of the Head of State, Tun (Dr) Musa Aman, held at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Saturday.
He emphasised that agriculture remains a key focus area for the State Government, as it plays a crucial role in strengthening food security in Sabah.
Among the notable initiatives, he said, is the establishment of the Sabah Paddy and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), which aims to raise the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent in 2025 to 60 per cent by 2030.
'This is a strategic move to enhance Sabah's self-reliance in food production while reducing dependency on imports,' he stressed.
In line with developing future-ready talent, Hajiji said human capital development, particularly among youth, remains high on the government's agenda through various empowerment programmes involving skills training, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and sports.
The State Government, he added, has also approved the establishment of the Sabah State TVET Council as a coordinating and monitoring platform for technical and vocational education and training in line with industry demands.
'We want to ensure that Sabah's youth are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills to meaningfully contribute to the development of the state and the nation,' he said.
On federal-state ties, Hajiji reiterated that the close cooperation and good relations with the Federal Government will continue to be upheld to ensure Sabah is not left behind in the national development agenda.
He expressed appreciation for the Federal Government's various forms of assistance and initiatives, especially in areas such as infrastructure, health, education and security.
Hajiji also thanked the Prime Minister for his firm stance in safeguarding Sabah's rights and sovereignty, including the recent success in fending off foreign claims against the state at the international level.
'Malaysia's success in defending Sabah from external claims affirms the state's sovereign status under the Malaysian Federation and provides reassurance and confidence to the people of Sabah,' he said.
Hajiji also conveyed his heartfelt birthday wishes to Tun Musa in conjunction with his 74th official birthday and prayed for continued good health and blessings for him and Toh Puan.
'The State Government and the people of Sabah extend our deepest appreciation for Your Excellency's leadership and enduring service. May Allah SWT bless Tun with longevity and continued protection,' he said.
The ceremony was attended by top state leaders, recipients of state honours and awards, heads of departments and invited dignitaries.

Kaamatan, Gawai fests strengthen Bornean ties
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 Text Size: Dr Joachim representing Hajiji at the event. PENAMPANG: The Kaamatan and Gawai festivals serve as more than just symbols of gratitude for the harvest season. They are also platforms to strengthen the bond between Sabah and Sarawak as fellow Bornean states, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Speaking at the Kaamatan-Gawai Gala Dinner 2025 at the ITCC's Grand Ballroom last Saturday, Hajiji said the close relationship between both states must be preserved as the foundation for fostering unity and harmony among the multi-racial communities in East Malaysia. 'Sabah and Sarawak do not just share borders, but also the Bornean identity that is rich with culture, customs and traditions. We must strengthen this relationship for our mutual progress and prosperity,' he said. His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister II cum State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam. Hajiji noted that the celebration of Kaamatan-Gawai symbolises consensus and appreciation for ancestral heritage, while strengthening the spirit of goodwill among the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Rungus, Iban, Bidayuh, Dayak and other indigenous communities. He said the cultural diversity of various ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak has become a tourism attraction capable of introducing local heritage wealth to the international level. 'Such celebrations can be held because of the peace and harmony we enjoy. Malaysians should be grateful to live in a country that prioritises racial unity and stability,' he said. He said unity and tolerance between races and religions remain the country's main strength, which is difficult to find in other nations today. 'Racial unity must be enhanced so that future generations understand that Malaysia is a country for all citizens regardless of background,' he added. Hajiji welcomed closer cooperation with the Sarawak government in various fields including economics, education, investment and cultural exchange, particularly involving youth participation. He said the State Government is also committed to empowering rural communities, protecting customary land and expanding access to education and digital services to ensure no citizen is left behind in the development stream. 'Every Sabahan deserves fair opportunities for mutual prosperity,' he said. He expressed appreciation to all parties who made the event successful, including artists, community leaders and volunteers who continue to keep alive the spirit of Bornean culture. 'May this celebration foster love, harmony and unite us for a brighter future,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Land survey: 10,000 in Tawau to gain
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 Text Size: Liew mingling with the villagers during the event. TAWAU: A land survey covering four villages in Kukusan, including Kampung Sri Menanti, Airport Lama, Sentosa Block 4 and Kampung Hilltop, will be carried out soon, potentially benefiting more than 10,000 residents. Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah said the 88.54-acre land, long occupied by settlers, has received State-level approval for gazettement prior to the dissolution of the State Assembly. 'This is not a political stunt. The approval was given before the dissolution and is meant to address long-standing land issues,' he said after a dinner with village heads from Kukusan, here, last Sunday. He said the land approval letter was handed over to a representative of the Tawau Land and Survey Department to facilitate early survey work. 'Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the State Cabinet have agreed to approve the 88.54 acres of land for the villagers,' he said. Once the surveying process is complete, the villages will be eligible for basic facilities such as a multi-purpose hall, paved roads and housing assistance under the Sabah Maju Jaya programme. Liew urged political parties not to incite doubt among residents, stressing that the effort is aimed at solving long-term issues. 'Let us work together to get the land surveyed and structured. This is about the people's future,' he said. He said it is up to the people in Kukusan whether to continue supporting the government in the coming State election. 'If you feel the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government is performing and helping the people, then continue to support them,' he said. Liew also thanked the Chief Minister, the Department and the relevant parties. 'I have been helping the people even when I was not an elected representative, using my own means. What matters most is unity and moving forward together,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Media told to be professional, responsible
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 Text Size: Mariah, Joniston and the winners of the Kinabalu Press Awards 2025. Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor called on media practitioners to carry out their duties with integrity, guided by the principles of professional and responsible journalism. He said the success and dissemination of government policy implementation also depend on the vital role of the media in conveying information clearly and effectively to the public. In the context of state development, he said the Government remains committed to implementing various initiatives that benefit the people and accelerate Sabah's progress through the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan. 'As a sector with close collaboration and ties with the Government, the media also plays a role in delivering information on state government development policies, particularly under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan. 'Therefore, I hope this strategic cooperation will continue to be strengthened and that the good relationship between us will be further enhanced to help the Government disseminate key information to the people regarding the State's development agenda and direction. 'Media reports also assist the Government in understanding what is happening at the grassroots level, including the concerns of the people. Certainly, the Government welcomes such reports and coverage from media practitioners, as a bridge connecting the Government and the people,' he said. His speech was delivered by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. Hajiji expressed hope that the media will continue to play an important role as a trusted source of information, a provider of accurate news and a platform for faster and more precise updates to society. He said the Kinabalu Press Awards, organised by the Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) in collaboration with the State Government and other sponsors, aims to recognise and appreciate the commitment and capabilities of media practitioners in the State. 'This event also serves as an excellent platform to inspire media practitioners to remain motivated, focused and responsible in carrying out their duties transparently and ethically,' he added. In this regard, he said the Government has never overlooked the media's important role in society and continues to support programmes such as the KPA through financial sponsorship contributions. 'The State Government greatly values and understands this need, and in fact, sponsorship support has increased every year. 'I also extend my congratulations to all the winners. Keep up the excellent work and let this success be a catalyst to continue contributing to the development of the State and the wellbeing of the people through credible and ethical news reporting,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
