Party leader urges Syrian President to label Polisario a terrorist group
«We view this decision as a reward for our efforts over the past ten years to expose the role of this atheist, separatist, and terrorist organization, which is backed by and connected to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. It has served as one of Iran's tools in its war against the Syrian people», he wrote.
Al Masri also reminded President Al-Charaa that just last week, a bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives seeking to classify the Polisario among terrorist groups and individuals, alongside Iran's Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah.
The Free Syrian Party leader went on to urge the Syrian president to «officially, fully, and unequivocally recognize the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara, a recognition that enjoys broad Arab consensus and the support of all major international powers, led by the United States», he said.
Such a step, he added, would serve to «turn the page on the violations committed by the former regime against the historic ties with the Kingdom of Morocco, and rebuild this relationship on a foundation of mutual respect, cooperation, and strategic partnership. Recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara also means upholding and supporting the sovereignty of the Syrian state over all its territory, in the face of any terrorist, separatist, or rebel group».
In a message sent on February 4 to Ahmed Al-Charaa, congratulating him on assuming the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic during the transitional period, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco's support for the Syrian people «as they navigate a sensitive and decisive stage in their history», in line with Morocco's consistent stance in favor of Syria's territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

A few days after the Polisario's rocket attacks on Es-Smara, a Mauritanian army delegation traveled to Tindouf to meet with Algerian military officials. It is part of a consistent state policy to protect national sovereignty», he added. In recent weeks, the Lebriga region has seen rising tensions involving Mauritanian and Algerian troops, as well as Polisario militias. Mauritania is seeking a stronger commitment from Algeria to help secure the area.

Moroccan campaign urges ISA to rethink Israeli presence at sociology forum
The freezing of the Israeli Sociological Society's (ISS) membership within the International Sociological Association (ISA) has not prevented Israeli researchers from participating in the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology. The event, scheduled to take place from July 6 to 11, 2025, at Mohammed V University in Rabat, still includes contributions from Israeli institutions, one of which explicitly refers to Hamas as a «terrorist» organization, even as the event unfolds amid more than 600 days of war in Gaza. On Wednesday, July 2, the Moroccan Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (MACBI) renewed its call for mobilization, urging the organizers to reconsider their stance. In a written statement received by Yabiladi, the organization—part of the BDS Morocco coalition—affirmed that «the participation of Israeli researchers is indeed maintained at the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology», calling it «an unacceptable form of normalization». It added, «The ISA's suspension of the Israeli Sociological Society does not mean that representatives of universities complicit in genocide will not attend». According to MACBI, the event's program still includes 17 presentations by researchers affiliated with Israeli institutions. «Maintaining their participation, without issuing a statement to cancel it, amounts to a clear act of normalization», the group stated. The demands also call for ISA to adopt a consistent «land recognition» policy for universities in settler colonial contexts, including Palestine, and to acknowledge the complicity of Israeli universities in their state's actions against Palestinians. The statement follows a similar call by the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel in Lebanon. In light of ISA's unchanged position, MACBI renewed its call to boycott the forum «unless the association meets ethical standards that ensure it does not harm the Palestinian cause, and instead contributes to ending the genocide and dismantling the Israeli apartheid regime». The ISA, for its part, has invoked «academic freedom» to justify the inclusion of Israeli researchers. This renewed call comes just days after the ISA officially froze ISS membership on June 29. In an earlier statement to Yabiladi, MACBI coordinators stressed that Israeli institutional affiliation was not a disqualifying criterion in the selection of speakers, hence the ongoing mobilization. So far, 232 researchers have declared their boycott of the forum until the ISA reconsiders its position.

Hilale, who co-facilitates negotiations for the Second World Summit on Social Development, said this unified approach will help guarantee peace, prosperity, and social stability across the globe, including in Arab nations. Speaking via video during yesterday's closing session of the two-day meeting, Hilale pointed out that addressing these challenges requires fresh approaches and new policies that respect cultural, religious, and ethnic differences. He said that diversity should become a driver of excellence while protecting each nation's and region's priorities. The meeting took place in preparation for the Second World Summit on Social Development, which will be held in Doha this November. Negotiations show promise Current negotiations take place in an atmosphere of openness, inclusion, and transparency, Hilale argued, noting they aim to pave the way for a concise political declaration that focuses on coordinated action. He stressed the importance of strengthening the emerging international consensus around a new vision for social development that serves multilateral social action goals. Morocco shares its experience For his part, Rachid Kadida, director of social development at Morocco's Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, spoke of the country's experience in fighting poverty. The official outlined the country's investments in social protection and inclusion, efforts to strengthen social cohesion, programs to empower vulnerable groups, and improvements to care services. The meeting concluded with the presentation of a draft document outlining Arab priorities for the Second World Summit on Social Development. However, participants postponed approval to review proposed amendments.
