Wilson Ramos hangs up his glove and heart with Washington Nationals
Wilson Ramos, the Buffalo and All-Star catcher, signed a one-day deal on June 15, 2025, to retire as a Washington National. Ramos, 35, spent 12 years in the big leagues, seven of those in Washington, so it only makes sense for him to retire where so much of his legacy was created.
This was, after all, a very personal decision: Ramos spoke about having spent years sacrificing at least part of his personal life for the career he chose to pursue, and that he hoped, now that the kids had grown up, to spend time with them as they grow up.

Ramos filled his time with the Nationals (2010-2016) with amazing memories and solid accomplishments. As a pitcher, he'd hit a handful of the most significant pitching moments in franchise memory, catching Washington's three no-hitters — one thrown by Jordan Zimmermann and two by Max Scherzer, during Scherzer's 20-strikeout game in 2016.
Ramos endured three major knee injuries, including a torn ACL that many believed could end his career, before he bounced back each time with renewed vigor. All of that built up his determination, which ultimately resulted in him winning a Silver Slugger Award in 2016 and deservedly making the All-Star game. The Nationals manager remembered Ramos not just as a player but as a person. Martinez called him an
"incredible human being"
while he was on the diamond and off of it, saying Ramos played the game within its values.

Wilson Ramos' legacy and emotional farewell to the Washington Nationals
Ramos's career numbers are hard to argue with — His legacy goes beyond the number, as he had a .271 career average with 136 home runs, and over 500 RBIs. Teammates who played alongside Ramos pretty much always discussed how humble, gracious, and respectful he was to everyone he crossed paths with (both superstars and support staff alike), from Adam LaRoche to Daniel Murphy (former teammates).

Divya is a Nagpur native, and became India's 21st woman chess Grandmaster in 2021. She also won the Women's Indian Chess C'ship in 2022. During the 2025 World Rapid and Blitz Team Chess C'ships in London, she defeated world No. 1 Hou Yifan in the blitz semi-finals, which was also her first-ever win against the Chinese GM. She also became the FIDE World U-20 Girls Chess Champion in 2024, and was the fourth Indian to do so after Humpy (2001), Harika Dronavalli (2008) and Soumya Swaminathan (2009). Lauding her, her childhood coach Srinath Narayanan opened up on her contribution in the Indian U-16 tema winning silver at the age-group Olympic in 2018. He told The New Indian Express, 'A penchant for closing out those big games. She was considerably weaker than the boys (the format was such that each team had to have at least one girl and there were no separate boards for girls). Her start wasn't that great but her spirit was geared towards more and she played a big role in us winning the decider (to win silver).'

Former Real Madrid Goalkeeper Keylor Navas Joins Pumas In Mexico
When former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas got an offer to play in Mexico for UNAM Pumas, he knew who to ask for advice. The Costa Rica goalkeeper called his ex-Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, as well as Costa Rica coach Miguel Herrera, before he eventually agreed to join Pumas in the top-tier Liga MX on a reported one-year contract. The move follows a six-month stint in Argentina with Newell's Old Boys. The 38-year-old Navas was introduced on Thursday as the Mexican side revamps its roster to try to end a 14-year spell without winning a league title. 'I'm here eager to give my all, to push myself, and to be on the pitch playing at my best,' Navas said. 'I have the mentality to make history, to be able to win a title. I believe we can achieve those goals by working with humility.' No details were given but Newell's Old Boys said it will receive $2 million as part of the deal. Navas and Ramos played together for five seasons with Madrid, winning three Champions League titles. The pair also joined forces at Paris Saint-Germain where they were part of the team that won the Ligue 1 title in 2022. The 39-year-old Ramos signed with Mexican team Monterrey earlier this year. 'Sergio told me a little about his experience in Mexico. I know James (Rodriguez) is also here and playing at a high level,' Navas said at a press conference. 'Liga MX is growing and is very competitive, with a very good infrastructure, and I thought I'd come to a club where we can compete for titles.' James Rodriguez, who played with Navas and Ramos for four seasons with Madrid, also plays in Mexico with Leon. Pumas had already bought Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, Colombian left back Alvaro Angulo and Ecuador midfielder Pedro Vite. Navas also called Herrera, who had coached six first division teams in Mexico before he was hired as coach of the Costa Rica men's national team as it attempts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. 'I spoke with Miguel because he knows the league and the club well, and he told me I should sign without a doubt,' Navas said. 'I'm joining a big club, and having him in the national team helps you make these decisions.' Navas also made the decision to move closer to Central America because his national team has World Cup qualifying games, starting in September, with 'Los Ticos' in Group C with Honduras, Haiti and Nicaragua.

Koneru Humpy storms into all-Indian final at FIDE Women's World Cup, sets up summit clash with Divya Deshmukh
Grandmaster Koneru Humpy held her nerves to score a come-from-behind victory over China's TIngjie Lei in the tiebreaker to set up an all-Indian summit clash against Divya Deshmukh at the FIDE Women's World Cup here on Thursday (July 24, 2025). Humpy will clash with Divya Deshmukh in the final starting after a day's rest starting on Saturday. With Humpy winning, both she and Divya have now qualified for the Women's candidates' tournament next year. Having drawn the first two games in the normal time control Humpy had to settle up with another 1-1 draw in the tiebreaker that comprised two games with 15 minutes for both players with an increment. After two draws here, Humpy had to really work hard in the next set of tiebreak games that had 10 minutes for both players with another increment. Lei got in the lad early in the set of these two games and Humpy erred in the middle game to lose a pawn and get in to a difficult endgame. What followed was pretty logical as Lei got in command and even thought the position was closer to a draw Humpy did not find the best defensive resources to equalize. Humpy lost another pawn on the queen side and despite the presence of opposite coloured Bishops in the endgame, white's influence on both flanks tilted things decisively in her favour. It was a win on demand wherein Humpy dominated the next game. The Queen pawn opening was good enough wherein Humpy was in command right from the word go. Humpy won with her superior technique and also her absolute determination to turn the tide in her favour from any given position. In the third set of tie-break games Humpy drew white in the first game and crushed Lei in all departments of the game. Winning this game meant that just a draw was needed for her to get in to the final and in the return game Humpy was at her technical best as she won again out of an Italian opening. If there is one title that has eluded Humpy it's the World Cup and world championship. Apart that Humpy has won everything under the sun.
