After the death of his wife, Hamidullah was living alone with his three daughters, while two older daughters were married. That night, he gave each of the girls capsules, claiming it was for stomach pain.
The eldest daughter grew suspicious and faked swallowing the pill. Minutes later, her younger sisters began frothing and gasping for air. She ran for help, but both girls were declared dead at the hospital. Hamidullah had fled the scene but was arrested the next day.
Convicted under Sections 302, 307, and 328 of the IPC, Hamidullah was serving his sentence when he vanished during parole. He had since been hiding in Loni, Ghaziabad, frequently changing locations to evade arrest.

Nagpur: In two separate incidents of burglary reported in the city, valuables worth more than Rs4.7 lakh were stolen from industrial and residential premises, prompting police to launch investigations. In a separate case under the Mankapur police station, 50-year-old Ashish Sawashere of Zingabai Takli reported a burglary that took place while he was away in Raipur with his family between July 22 and July 25. Upon his return, he found the locks of his house's compound gate and main door broken. Intruders had ransacked the bedroom closet and stolen gold and silver ornaments, along with a sports bike from a well-known Japanese brand. The total value of the stolen items was pegged at Rs3.11 lakh. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Witnesses hostile, man freed in dowry case after 21 years in Noida
Noida: The additional sessions cum fast-track court of GB Nagar has acquitted a man of dowry death charges after 21 years. Judge Saurabh Dwivedi, after hearing both parties, concluded that the prosecution failed to establish charges against the accused. The case concerned the death of a woman who was found hanging at her house in Nov 2004. A complaint under section 304B (killing for dowry) and sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961 was registered against the deceased's husband, Neeraj Gupta, and his brother Rajiv Gupta, along with his two family members. The CJM court of GB Nagar on Jan 13, 2005, transferred the case to the additional district and sessions court–II for trial on March 4, 2008, following which the trial began on Jan 15, 2008. It was later transferred to the fast-track court on Jan 6, 2015. The prosecution failed to prove the culpability of other family members in the case, as all three family members of the deceased, who were presented as prosecution witnesses, turned hostile. The complainant in the case, Krishna Kumar, who is the woman's uncle, said that he did not name Rajiv in his statement before the police. Admitting to naming Rajiv in his deposition before the court 19 years ago, Kumar said that at that time, the entire family was in shock and grief, and he named him in an emotionally charged state of mind. "They, however, failed to prove that the prosecution witnesses were making false claims," the defence counsel said. The court concluded that since the prosecution failed to prove beyond doubt the involvement of Rajiv Gupta in demanding dowry or attacking the deceased, he deserved to be released from section 304B of the IPC and sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Maradu police launch probe into faulty construction of Chander Kunj Army Towers
Kochi: Maradu police have registered one more FIR and begun an investigation into the alleged faulty construction of Chander Kunj Army Towers at Silver Sand Island, Vyttila. The FIR was registered under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The FIR was registered on July 21, based on a court directive after Colonel (retd) Ciby George, a resident of the Army towers, filed a private complaint before Ernakulam judicial first-class magistrate court-VIII. The FIR states that the crime was committed with the intention of making excessive profits by cheating the complainant and others. The three towers of the apartment complex were constructed under the ownership of Army Welfare Housing Organisation, without obtaining necessary sanctions from govt departments and by using low-quality materials. The complainant purchased one of the flats in the building on May 31, 2018, but the flat started developing damages and became uninhabitable. The accused committed the crime by overseeing the construction at various stages and at other times. The FIR was registered after the petition filed before the court was forwarded to the station, the FIR states. Maradu station house officer (SHO) filed a report before the court on July 15 stating that the case was of a serious nature and there was a need for a special unit of police to investigate it. The case diary was submitted to higher-ups so that the probe could be transferred to crime branch. Further procedures were in process regarding the same, the report stated. Maradu police are also investigating three other cases registered in connection with the issue. Earlier, the high court on June 16 declined to order a CBI investigation into the alleged corruption behind the dilapidated condition of towers B and C on a petition filed by George.
