JOHOR BAHRU: The entry lane at the Ayer Hitam Toll Plaza was closed indefinitely after a trailer spilled hazardous chemicals earlier this evening. The incident, reported at 6.41 pm, prompted immediate action by the fire department to secure the area.
PLUS Malaysia confirmed the closure in a Facebook update at 9.28 pm, stating, 'As of 9.28 pm, the entry lane to the Ayer Hitam Toll Plaza remains temporarily closed.' The company urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while cleanup operations continue.
Authorities have not yet provided details on the type of chemicals involved or potential health risks. However, the closure underscores the severity of the incident, with safety protocols strictly enforced.
For real-time updates, PLUS Malaysia directed the public to monitor its X account (@plustrafik) or official Facebook page. The company emphasized the importance of rerouting to prevent delays and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, when contacted by Bernama, said that the lane was still closed to all vehicles as of 10.30 pm, due to safety factors.
'The lane is still not open,' he replied briefly, adding that the chemical spilt was Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate.

The project is currently 68.9% complete, which means there's about 30% left to be done over the next three months. 'I hope they will implement two work shifts, day and night shifts, with each shift totalling 16 hours by two separate teams to complete on time,' he said. He cited the construction of the Malaysian Armed Forces staff housing in Sabah, which was carried out in three shifts, stressing that the contractor of this project should implement a three-shift system if they have similar capabilities. Ahmad said delays in the project would disadvantage three parties: the students for whom the complex is being built, the government and the contractors themselves. 'The contractor said the monthly cost is RM50,000. They've already fallen behind by several months, so imagine RM50,000 multiplied by those months; that's the financial loss the contractor has to bear,' he added.

Electric Vehicles Worldwide Reach 56 Million: Report
STUTTGART, June 27 (Bernama-WAM) -- The number of electric vehicles increased by around one-third last year to 55.8 million, with China and its 31.4 million vehicles accounting for more than 50 per cent of the global total, according to calculations from a German energy research institute. Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the figures compiled by the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Wurttemberg (ZSW) include fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, or electric cars with range extenders. In second place – with a significant gap from China's top spot – the United States follows with 6.4 million vehicles. Germany ranks third with 2.6 million. The United Kingdom and France each have around 2.1 million, while Norway has just over 1 million.
