PLUS shuts southbound Serdang R&R to heavy vehicles for upgrading until July 31

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — The Serdang Rest and Service Area (R&R) (Southbound) at KM308.20 of the North-South Expressway will be temporarily closed in phases to all heavy vehicles for 25 days starting today to facilitate concrete resurfacing maintenance works. In a statement, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) said the heavy vehicles access route into the R&R area will be closed in stages from 8am today until midnight on July 31, 2025, to make way for upgrading works for the comfort of highway users. 'As such, heavy vehicle drivers are advised to use the nearest available parking facilities as an alternative during the maintenance period. 'However, other facilities and parking for Class 1 vehicles at the R&R will continue to operate as usual,' the statement read. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys using the PLUS App for up-to-date traffic information and to follow all traffic signs and instructions from PLUS personnel when passing through the affected area. The latest traffic updates can be obtained via the PUTRI Virtual Assistant, X@plustrafik App, and electronic signboards at selected locations, or by contacting the PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000 for emergency assistance. — Bernama

North-South Expressway southern corridor widening project to begin on July 28, PLUS assures no traffic disruption

JOHOR BARU, July 4 — PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) in a statement today said the additional lane construction project on the North-South Expressway's (NSE) southern corridor involving the widening of the number of lanes from two to three for the Sedenak to Simpang Renggam route (Phase Two), over a distance of 17 kilometres, is expected to commence on July 28. It said the implementation period for the works will take 36 months, with the contract for the additional lane construction project awarded to a local contractor after undergoing an open tender process. 'However, when the preliminary work on this route is carried out, it will not disrupt the flow of traffic because the two existing lanes in both directions of the affected highway will remain open to all vehicles,' said the statement. According to the highway operator company, the project is being implemented in phases, starting with Phase One (Senai Utara to Sedenak), followed by Phase Two (Sedenak to Simpang Renggam) and Phase Three (Simpang Renggam to Machap). The statement also said that the NSE widening project on the Kulai to Sedenak route (Phase One Package A), which began in July last year, is reported to be progressing smoothly according to schedule, while preliminary works for the Kulai to Senai Utara route (Phase One Package B) have also begun on site. 'The high-impact project is expected to benefit nearly 90,000 daily highway users and is hoped to act as a catalyst for more vibrant socio-economic development in the surrounding areas such as Sedenak, Kulai, Senai, Iskandar Malaysia and Pagoh,' according to PLUS. This effort is a government initiative to address the congestion on the NSE in the southern corridor, which often occurs during peak hours, and is aimed at providing a smoother journey for highway users in the future. Overall, PLUS said that the construction of this additional lane project is for the people's welfare and the economic development of the country. — Bernama

Phase Two of NSE's southern corridor lane expansion to kick off on July 28

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) says construction of additional lanes at the North-South Expressway's (NSE) southern corridor is progressing on schedule. The project to expand the expressway from two to three lanes is being carried out in multiple phases, with phase two set to start on July 28. According to PLUS, phase one covers the section from Senai Utara to Sedenak, followed by phase two from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam, and ultimately phase three from Simpang Renggam to Machap. "Construction for phase two will cover a 17-kilometre stretch between Sedenak and Simpang Renggam, with an estimated implementation period of 36 months. "The contract for this phase has recently been awarded to a local contractor through an open tender," it said. PLUS said traffic flow will remain unaffected during preliminary works, as the existing two lanes in both directions will remain open to all vehicles. Highway users are advised to drive carefully and adhere to all on-site traffic management instructions. "This high-impact project is expected to benefit up to 90,000 daily highway users. "It is also anticipated to serve as a catalyst for socio-economic development in surrounding areas such as Sedenak, Kulai, Senai, Iskandar Malaysia and Pagoh," it said. PLUS said the project is part of the government's efforts to alleviate congestion along the southern corridor of the NSE during peak hours. The project is fully funded by the government. PLUS Malaysia is jointly owned by Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund. Khazanah, via UEM Group Bhd, holds a 51 per cent stake in the highway concessionaire, while the EPF owns the remaining 49 per cent.

Sg Besi toll on KL-Seremban Highway closed midnight July 2–3 for gantry works

PETALING JAYA: Motorists using the KL-Seremban Highway are advised to plan ahead as a temporary full closure will take place at the Sg Besi toll plaza, located near the BHPetrol station, from midnight on July 2 until 5am on July 3. The closure affects both directions at KM 309.7 — from Sg Besi heading towards Bangi and from Bangi heading into the city — to allow for gantry truss launching works by contractor Hektar Mentari. Although the toll area will be closed, it will not be completely inaccessible. Traffic will be managed in a controlled 'stop and go' system by on-site crew, but delays are expected throughout the five-hour window, PLUS Malaysia said in a Facebook post. Highway users are urged to follow all traffic instructions, expect potential waiting times, and consider alternate routes during the closure period.

Mortar bomb near Menora Tunnel sparks 15km jam, North-South Expressway reopens after safe detonation

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Traffic on the North-South Expressway near KM265, about 4km after the Menora Tunnel, has resumed after bomb disposal teams safely detonated a suspected explosive yesterday. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed the route is now safe. 'Yes, it's safe to pass through,' he said when contacted by Harian Metro last night. The object, identified as an 81mm mortar bomb from the Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) category, was discovered around 9.30am during landscaping works. A supervisor alerted highway patrol officers, and a police report was lodged at Jelapang police station at 12.15pm. The Perak police bomb squad, assisted by its Ipoh district counterpart, carried out a high-order electrical detonation. 'The bomb was intact and safely destroyed without any loss of life or property,' said Noor Hisam. The discovery prompted a temporary closure of both northbound and southbound lanes between Kuala Kangsar and Ipoh, causing a 15km jam. All lanes were reopened by 3.44pm, according to PLUS Malaysia Berhad.
