People say they could be doctors or firefighters with no training thanks to TV

Edinburgh Live12-07-2025
A third of people say they could successfully give someone CPR, because they've seen it done on TV shows. And almost 3.5 million even believe they have what it takes to become a doctor or firefighter with no other training other than watching their favourite series.
The research was conducted by Sky to co-incide with a three-part #OneChicago crossover event set to air on Friday, July 11 on Sky and NOW. It found that a quarter were inspired by TV to go into their current field of work, and an estimated 1.35 million people quit their job to go into a different field after learning about it on TV.
Traditional roles still fill the top spots of the careers people would consider going into after seeing them on TV, with teacher, lawyer and doctor amongst the top jobs. Men are even confident in their physical strength and abilities, with 1 in 10 convinced that they could have a career in the armed forces tomorrow purely based on their current level of expertise having watched people in the armed forces on TV or film.
15% are confident they could become a successful teacher tomorrow with no other experience other than seeing the job carried out on the screen, and some people even think they could become a doctor, nurse or firefighter.
29% of Brits believe they could stop someone from bleeding out, and 12% say they could fight a fire.
16% say they have actually been able to save someone's life using skills learned on TV, and a further 15% say watching TV has helped them diagnose an illness for themselves or someone else. 1 in 10 men say they've been able to solve a crime and 6% say they have even been able to successfully defend themselves in court thanks to TV.
The crossover event on Sky Witness will shift the traditional #OneChicago show order, with Chicago Fire kicking things off at 8pm, followed by Chicago Med at 9pm and concluding with Chicago PD at 10pm in the first #OneChicago crossover event since 2019.
Viewers will follow the three teams as a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, and Chicago's first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It is the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.

Jennifer Lopez, 56, 'splits from record label' as she delivers a racy performance in Turkey during her tour

Jennifer Lopez has reportedly 'split from her record label' as she delivered another sizzling performance during her Up All Night tour in Turkey on Wednesday. The singer, 56, is now said to be an independent artist, releasing her new single Birthday through a smaller company, according to The Sun. Her 2024 album This Is Me… Now was released under BMG, the same label that represents stars like Kylie Minogue and Rita Ora. However, the publication reported that the deal was only for one album, and following disappointing sales, both parties agreed to go their separate ways. A music insider told the outlet: 'Jennifer is obviously massively successful and talented but it's been hard for her to find a label who she is on the same page with. 'After her last album came out, it was decided she wouldn't continue with BMG as it wasn't the success she wanted. 'It only went to No55 in the UK. But her team want to push forward with new music. She has spent a lot of time in the studio this year.' MailOnline has contacted Jennifer's representative for comment. It comes as the singer took to the stage for an electric performance at the Regnum Carya Hotel. The evening held even greater significance as it doubled as a pre-birthday celebration for the star, who turned 56 on Wednesday. The singer looked incredible as she slipped her jaw-dropping figure into a busty silver leotard as she performed alongside her scantily-clad dancers. The risqué high-cut ensemble featured a plunging neckline, perfectly showcasing the star's gym-honed body. JLo added thigh-high silver boots to her racy look and looked on fine form as she strutted about the stage. At one point, she turned up the heat in a black thong and bra adorned with gold detailing, before slipping into a long-sleeve white lace bodysuit featuring a chest cut-out. The evening held even greater significance as it doubled as a pre-birthday celebration for Lopez, who turned 56 on Wednesday It comes shortly after JLo shocked with her X-rated performance that saw her simulate sex positions on stage at the Cook Music Fest in Tenerife. She once again left little to the imagination, this time in a thong bodysuit complete with racy cut outs. Jennifer sung on all fours in front of one shirtless dancer, before another lifted her off her feet and she sat on his shoulder with her crotch in his face. Another eye-popping moments saw her straddling one dancer while placing her hands between the legs of another two. The hunky men showcased their gym honed physiques in only trousers and white corsets. The sizzling show comes after she debuted her Ben Affleck revenge song, saying earlier this week: 'This is a song that is a new song that I want to sing for the first time tonight that came to me when I was up all night one night. Shall we sing this one for the people?'. JLO —who first sang the song at a private fan event July 2—said she's 'better' now. 'The love I want, the love I need, it starts in me,' she sang. She then added, 'Now I found my way here I'm gonna stay there. Thank you for the scars you left on my heart, was showing me that stars shine brighter in the dark. I won't fall apart because of who we are, but your broken parts.' And she said the heartbreak made her 'wiser.' 'Because of you, I am stronger, wiser,' Lopez belted out. 'Better than I've ever been.' Then Jennifer made it very clear she would never reunite with Ben: 'I won't let you no longer, longer, ever say goodbye to me. It was perfect while you made me believe, really got only greater for me, and it made me stronger, stronger, bulletproof. Now watch me climb out of the wreckage of you.' She then thanked the unnamed ex for 'the pain that you caused.' In May Jennifer told El Pais that the split was a 'difficult time' but she would be stronger for it. 'I'm proud of myself for that and I'm proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they're stronger and better because of it.' It comes after she debuted her Ben Affleck revenge song (Jennifer and Ben's marriage ended earlier this year after filing for divorce in August 2024; seen in January 2024 in LA) Jennifer and Ben tied the knot in 2022 after rekindling their romance. But in August 2024, she filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary. A statement obtained by at the time read: 'Representatives for Live Nation announced today that the Jennifer Lopez US Summer 2024 Tour THIS IS is canceled. 'Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends,' it was added. Lopez herself also said she was 'heartsick and devastated' over the cancellation but added it was 'absolutely necessary.' An insider also told 'She's taking time off to be with family and close friends. This was a very difficult decision made by Jennifer this week and she's sorry to her fans.'

Hulk Hogan's family issue tearjerking tribute as they vow to 'cherish' memories

Hulk Hogan's family have spoken out for the first time since the WWE legend died. The wrestling icon's death aged 71 was announced on Thursday after reports of a cardiac arrest. Reports have suggested medics rushed to his home in Clearwater, Florida just days after Hulk's pal revealed he was unable to talk. Hulk's health had caused concern among fans in recent weeks as a representative for the WWE icon denied speculation he was gravely ill. Following his death, Hulk's family took to his official Instagram page to announce the news themselves. Their heartbreaking statement read: "It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we confirm we have lost a legend. "Our beloved Terry Bollea, known worldwide as Hulk Hogan, passed away today surrounded by his loved ones. At this time of grief, we ask that everyone please respect the privacy of his family and friends. "May we all take solace in the wonderful memories he left behind for the millions of fans worldwide whose lives he touched for more than four decades. He will be missed, but never forgotten." Hulk tied the knot with Sky in 2023 after the breakdown of his marriage to Jennifer McDaniel in 2021. He was married to Linda Claridge, 65, for 26 years before they split in 2009. They welcomed two children together - Brooke, 36, and Nick, 34. Hulk and Linda suffered a family fallout with daughter Brooke, who skipped his wedding to Sky. The couple said 'I do' in a "small affair" in Florida after getting engaged two months prior. Hulk went all out and bought a six carat diamond engagement ring worth $100,000 for the yoga instructor. A friend revealed that Hulk was "the happiest he's ever been" with his new wife and claimed that she "changed his life." The source confirmed that unfortunately, his daughter Brooke did not turn up. This year, Hulk's health has hit the headlines as in May, it was announced he'd undergone a small "fusion procedure" on his neck. A month later, a YouTuber claimed that things were "not looking good" for him. Denying the speculation, a representative said that Hulk's surgery had been "successful" and there were "no reasons to panic." However, he was taken to hospital due to complications and he was later transferred home. On an episode of ex-pal Bubba The Love Sponge's YouTube channel, co-host Lummy claimed: "Hogan's not doing well. He he can't speak. His trachea or whatever was damaged and he's having problems and it does not look good. It does not look at all." Bubba, who was once sued by Hogan for leaking a sex tape of his wife and the wrestler, told the channel he had heard from a hospital security guard. "He was transported to his house but he's still in his hospital bed. It's just like he's at the hospital," he said. "They've gone as far as they can go at the hospital now. They just they're keeping him comfortable at his house in a hospital bed." Sky denied rumours he was in a coma after concerns grew over the star's health. A statement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), on X said: 'WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. 'One of pop culture's most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans.'
