People say they could be doctors or firefighters with no training thanks to TV
The research was conducted by Sky to co-incide with a three-part #OneChicago crossover event set to air on Friday, July 11 on Sky and NOW. It found that a quarter were inspired by TV to go into their current field of work, and an estimated 1.35 million people quit their job to go into a different field after learning about it on TV.
Traditional roles still fill the top spots of the careers people would consider going into after seeing them on TV, with teacher, lawyer and doctor amongst the top jobs. Men are even confident in their physical strength and abilities, with 1 in 10 convinced that they could have a career in the armed forces tomorrow purely based on their current level of expertise having watched people in the armed forces on TV or film.
15% are confident they could become a successful teacher tomorrow with no other experience other than seeing the job carried out on the screen, and some people even think they could become a doctor, nurse or firefighter.
29% of Brits believe they could stop someone from bleeding out, and 12% say they could fight a fire.
16% say they have actually been able to save someone's life using skills learned on TV, and a further 15% say watching TV has helped them diagnose an illness for themselves or someone else. 1 in 10 men say they've been able to solve a crime and 6% say they have even been able to successfully defend themselves in court thanks to TV.
The crossover event on Sky Witness will shift the traditional #OneChicago show order, with Chicago Fire kicking things off at 8pm, followed by Chicago Med at 9pm and concluding with Chicago PD at 10pm in the first #OneChicago crossover event since 2019.
Viewers will follow the three teams as a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, and Chicago's first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It is the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.

The six little-known Sky TV remote ‘codewords' to skip annoying ads, entertain your kids & unlock 5-star films instantly
TELLY fans can instantly upgrade their Sky-watching experience just by learning a few handy remote tricks. You can easily skip past ads, track down endless entertainment for your kids, and unlock the very best movies in a matter of seconds. It all works using the voice controls on Sky TV remotes. Most modern Sky telly remote controls feature a microphone button. You might have stared at it hundreds of times and never pressed it. But it can grant you dozens of different shortcuts – and I've picked out six of the best. If you get into the habit of using these special codewords and phrases, you'll save loads of time. SKY TV VOICE TRICK #1 – SKIP ADS First up is the ability to skip ads quickly. Now this won't work if you're watching live telly – but it's genius if you're viewing pre-recorded content. If you manually fast-forward through an ad break, it's pretty slow. But with the voice remote, you can just say: "Fast-forward three minutes." It'll whisk you right past the ads and back to your beloved telly. SKY TV VOICE TRICK #2 – TOP FLICKS You may have already known that you can search for movies with your voice by saying its name or asking for a genre. Sky customers can claim delicious freebies in new giveaway scheme But that might serve up some rubbish flicks that aren't worth your time. So instead, try asking for "movies rated five stars". That'll pull up a list of top-rated movies for your perusal, and hopefully ensure that you have a solid movie night. An alternative is to ask for "movies rated one star" if you want a bit of a laugh. 4 SKY TV VOICE TRICK #3 – FAST APPS Sometimes you're watching telly on a live channel or app and then want to view something else. Scrolling through menus and between apps can be a real faff. It's actually much quicker to just voice-request the name of the app. All you need to do is say "open Netflix" and it'll pop right up. You'll be shocked at how much time this can save you – but it's one of those tricks that you need to get into the habit of using, so you can really reap the rewards. SKY TV VOICE TRICK #4 – QUICK TELLY One of the biggest problems with watching TV in the modern age is the amount of choice you have. It can feel impossible to actually pick something because there's just endless telly out there. One solution to this is Sky's recommendation feature. 4 Just hit the microphone button and ask: "What should I watch?" This will feed you telly that you actually want to see based on your viewing habits. And it even works across Sky as well as third-party apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. SKY TV VOICE TRICK #5 – WORDS OFF Sometimes subtitles find themselves mysteriously activated and you can't work out why – or how to switch them off quickly. ANOTHER SKY TRICK TO TRY Earlier this week, we revealed a clever Sky trick... You can unlock loads of classic games on Sky for free. Just load up your Sky TV, go to the apps menu, and look for Games by It's packed with top games including retro titles like Pac-Man, Breakout, and Tetris. There are kids games too, and quizzes that you can play together as a family. You don't need a special controller. Instead you simply play using your Sky TV remote. The only catch? You'll have to sit through ads – but you won't pay a penny to play. Picture Credit: The Sun / Sky / Tetris And other times, you might want them on but can't remember how to bring them up. Rather than faffing around with settings, just use your voice. You can just ask for Sky to "turn subtitles on" or "turn subtitles off" and it'll happen in an instant. SKY TV VOICE TRICK #6 – FUN FOR KIDS It's summertime, which means many parents will be at home trying to entertain their children. 4 And Sky's telly service is jam-packed with kid-friendly content. If you want to find it all very quickly, simply say "Open Kids section". This will take you straight to a treasure trove of child-friendly telly that Sky has curated.

My hubby transformed our shed into a ‘dream' nail salon – bargains from Homebase & IKEA made it look so glam on a budget
Plus, scroll down for rules on converting sheds GLOSS BOSS My hubby transformed our shed into a 'dream' nail salon – bargains from Homebase & IKEA made it look so glam on a budget Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN has revealed that her husband transformed a shell of a shed into a glamorous nail salon. Now, Nicola Vacher-Smith, who is the founder of Sanctuary Twelve, a garden studio located in Blyth, Northumberland, now just has to walk a few steps down her garden to get to work. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 A nail technician has revealed a before and after look of her garden studio Credit: TikTok/@nicolavachersmith 2 What was once a shell of a shed is now a fully functioning beauty space - and we think it looks fabulous Credit: TikTok/@nicolavachersmith Not only does she have a gorgeous space to welcome clients into, but according to the nail technician and beauty therapist, it is a very 'relaxing' and 'calm' environment. Nicola, who is from Newcastle, took to social media to share a step-by-step process of her shed renovation, leaving many open-mouthed. Alongside the post, Nicola confirmed that her husband, who she described as her 'best friend,' 'biggest supporter' and even 'content model', did all of the work himself, as she beamed: 'Husband appreciation post.' What was once an empty shed has since been given a mega makeover and now is a jaw-dropping beauty salon. And not only do people think it looks 'beautiful' but others have said it is their 'dream' to have something similar in their garden. In the short clip, we saw Nicola's husband take on the hefty DIY job, as he first started off by insulating the space. Following this he then plastered and painted the walls. But that wasn't all - to make the shed super trendy, he then added panelling too. Thrilled with her new at-home salon, Nicola beamed: 'From the shell of a shed to a fully functioning salon, I'm obsessed!!' Reflecting on the shed's new look, she also added: 'What a transformation it is.' I was sick of paying rent so moved into a shed at the bottom of my garden Nicola later confirmed that she got the 9.5ft by 13ft shed from Northern Garden Sheds, a company based in Blaydon-on-Tyne. While she went local for her natural oak flooring, for the paint colours, her man used Dulux paint in the shade Caramel Sand 5 on the panelling and the Peace shade from Homebase's own range, on the walls. Do I need planning permission to convert my shed? CONVERTING an existing shed or outbuilding into a self-contained living space will usually require you apply for planning permission. However, there is a "loophole" Brits can use to convert outbuildings into a tiny home without permission. Planning expert Martin Gaine from Just Planning warned the conversion process is far easier than you may think. Speaking to The Sun, the Chartered Town Planner of 14 years' experience explained: "An outbuilding can be built using 'permitted development rights', meaning it does not need planning permission. "As long as you comply with the various restrictions and conditions." One of these is that the outbuilding can only be used for something 'ancillary' to your main living accommodation - examples include storage, a gym or a pool room. If the outbuilding is existing, converting it then into primary living accommodation IS allowed. Martin explained: "This is because internal changes to an existing building are not considered to be development at all under the Town and Country Planning Act. But like anything, there is one catch. The new living accommodation must still have some connection with your use of the main house. For instance, if your gran is living out there, she must still come into the house to eat. To accessorise the space, she nabbed her sideboard and chair from Daals and got her desk and lamp from IKEA. She also got a mirror and a stand from B&M, as well as a gorgeous vase from TK Maxx. Social media users react Nicola's TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @nicolavachersmith, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 436,900 views. Not only this, but it's also amassed 49,000 likes, 192 comments and 6,296 saves. It looks absolutely gorgeous TikTok user Social media users were incredibly impressed by Nicola's garden studio and many eagerly raced to the comments to express this. One person said: 'This is stunning.' Another added: 'This is my dream.' A third commented: 'This is beautiful.' Meanwhile, someone else beamed: 'It looks absolutely gorgeous.'
