Create app for access to women's schemes, says Maharashtra deputy CM
Eknath Shinde
on Tuesday directed officials to create a comprehensive app for women in the city to access information about schemes for women in one place. Shinde said the various departments should work effectively to implement the Fourth Women's Policy 2024 was announced.
"Through this policy, the state govt is creating an enabling environment for women and girls. Keeping in mind the population of Mumbai city, emphasis should be placed on establishing hostels for working women, daycare centres for children, women's self-help groups in slum areas and other needy places, providing stalls to self-help groups on a rotation basis, developing tourism projects to increase women's participation in the tourism sector, and implementing govt schemes for women fishermen.
Implement various schemes for tribal women effectively. Work should be done to complete the projects planned to solve the housing problem on time, provide health facilities to women immediately, and increase health facilities in line with the times," Shinde said at the Fourth Women's Policy-2024 District Level Implementation Steering Committee meeting."Strict measures are being taken to curb violence against women. To make the security and other important schemes implemented by the govt available on a single app, an app should be developed in Mumbai city and made available to all women. The various schemes implemented by the govt to help women should be made available immediately. Women should be supported while filing a complaint after coming to the police station. The atmosphere in the police station should be such that they can file a complaint without succumbing to any pressure. The govt is taking complaints regarding women on a fast track. The administration should work for this as women also need to have a big share to take the state towards a one trillion economy," Shinde said.

Maharashtra BJP leader Prasad Lad claims Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund transferred using fake letterhead
Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde on Wednesday directed the state administration to take immediate steps to stop the growing cases of illegal transfers of MLC funds by using fake signatures and letterheads of legislators after BJP MLC Prasad Lad raised the issue. In the Council, Lad raised a point of information regarding the transfer of Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund without his consent, allegedly in an illegal manner. 'I received a call from the Ratnagiri collector's house about a letter from the Beed district on my letterhead with a list of 36 works for which Rs 3.20 crore from the legislator fund has been transferred. But I had never signed the letter, nor had my letterhead been given to anyone,' Lad told the Council. 'The police have identified the perpetrators in this case. There should be a thorough probe irrespective of the party affiliation of the accused,' demanded Lad. He said even his voice was used through AI on the telephone, and he sought urgent intervention from the state government to stop such fund theft. Legislators from all parties said that they have all faced such attempts, and those are increasing every passing day. 'Even I faced such an attempt when I was the minister. Other legislators like Uma Khapre, Niranjan Davkhare, too, have faced this,' said Chairman Shinde. He added that he immediately filed a police complaint, and the transfer of money was stopped. Shinde directed that the state government should take immediate steps to prevent such theft of funds. 'We have directed the state government. We are hopeful that necessary steps will be taken,' said Shinde. 'There has to be some policy decision on this issue. Technical sides need to be fixed and the state government must take strong action,' added Shinde.

Symbol row: Supreme Court to hear Shiv Sena (UBT) plea on July 14
The Uddhav Thackeray-led faction on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing on its plea over the contentious Shiv Sena symbol in wake of the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra. The matter was mentioned before a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and K Vinod Chandran which agreed to list it on July 14. The counsel for the Shiv Sena (UBT) informed the bench that local body polls were likely to be notified soon in the state. The counsel appearing for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction said a similar request was made on May 7 before a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant, also hearing the symbol row matter, and it was rejected. The Shiv Sena (UBT) counsel argued that Justice Kant-led bench had said the matter could be mentioned during the top court's partial court working days. Live Events He argued the matter raised the "question of peoples' choice". He said the plea seeks an interim arrangement similar to the one directed by the apex court in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) symbol row case. In November last year, the top court directed the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction to publish a disclaimer in newspapers, including Marathi ones, that the issue of allocation of "clock" symbol was pending in court. The order was passed when the top court was hearing the pleas of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar factions over the purported use and misuse of "clock" symbol. The top court on May 6 paved the way for the state's local body polls which were stalled for over five years due to a reservation issue and ordered the Maharashtra election panel to notify it in four weeks. On May 7, the apex court asked the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction to concentrate on local body polls after the party sought an urgent hearing on its plea against the Maharashtra assembly speaker's decision to give the 'bow and arrow' symbol to the Eknath Shinde-led faction. The counsel appearing for Shiv Sena (UBT) had then said the assembly speaker gave the 'bow and arrow' symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction in 2023 based on the legislative majority, which was contrary to the Constitution bench verdict of the top court.
