Ship attacked by armed men and drone boats in Red Sea off Yemen
The incident occurred approximately 100 kilometers southwest of Hodeida, a port city controlled by Yemen's Houthis, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center.
The ship's armed security team reportedly returned fire as the situation unfolded.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the assault. However, the private security firm Ambrey said the vessel fit the 'established Houthi target profile' and reported that eight skiffs launched the initial attack.
The firm later confirmed that the ship was also struck by two explosive drone boats, while another two drones were intercepted by onboard security personnel — suggesting a major escalation in maritime threats in the region.
The Houthi-affiliated al-Masirah satellite channel acknowledged an attack had occurred but did not issue any formal statement. The U.S. military's Central Command said it was aware of the incident but declined to provide further details.Tensions in the Red Sea have intensified amid the ongoing Gaza conflict and recent military escalation between Iran and Israel. The Houthis have launched dozens of missile and drone attacks on commercial and military vessels since late 2023, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.Between November 2023 and January 2025 alone, Houthi attacks targeted over 100 merchant ships, sinking two and killing four crew members.A brief pause in Red Sea attacks followed U.S. airstrikes against Houthi positions in March, but hostilities have resumed sporadically. On Sunday, the Houthis also claimed to have launched a missile at Israel, which was intercepted by Israeli defenses. — Agencies

BRICS Leaders Urge Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza, Condemn Strikes on Iran
Leaders of the BRICS group issued a sharp rebuke of recent air strikes on Iran and called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, according to a joint declaration released at their summit on Sunday. The 11-member bloc—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and recent additions including Iran—did not name the United States or Israel directly but said the military actions violated international law. The statement expressed deep concern over the targeting of civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities in Iran. 'We condemn the military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran since 13 June 2025,' the bloc said, calling the attacks a breach of international norms. The 12-day conflict The condemnation follows Israeli air strikes that reportedly caused civilian casualties in multiple Iranian cities, including Tehran. Iranian state media said 935 people were killed during the 12-day conflict with Israel, before a U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect. Turning to the ongoing war in Gaza, BRICS leaders demanded the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave and all other occupied Palestinian territories. They urged all sides to engage in good-faith negotiations toward a permanent ceasefire, warning of worsening humanitarian conditions as the conflict enters its 22nd month. BRICS Summit 2025 Host nation Brazil took a notably firm tone, with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva accusing Israel of carrying out 'genocide' in Gaza and condemning the use of hunger as a weapon of war. He also denounced Hamas's October 2023 attack on Israel, but said it did not justify the scale of the Israeli response. The summit's final statement coincided with the resumption of indirect talks between Israel and Hamas in Doha, as international pressure mounts to end a war that has killed more than 57,000 people—most of them women and children—and left Gaza's population on the brink of famine. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, as Washington steps up efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement. Israel's Smotrich Criticizes Netanyahu's Gaza War Policy
Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich harshly criticized the cabinet's decision of allowing some aid into Gaza, according to Reuters. Smotrich described the move as a 'grave mistake' and it would benefit the militant Palestinian group Hamas. He also accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to guarantee that Israel's military is committed to government directives in prosecuting the war against Hamas in Gaza. '… the cabinet and the Prime Minister made a grave mistake yesterday in approving the entry of aid through a route that also benefits Hamas,' Smotrich said on X. Crucially, the minister announced that he is still determining his 'next steps' refrained from explicitly threatening to withdraw from the coalition. The Israeli government has not revealed any changes to its aid policy in Gaza. However, Israeli media reported that the government had voted to allow more aid to enter northern Gaza. At the same time, Israel accuses Hamas of stealing aid for the sake of its own fighters or to sell to finance its operations. Smotrich's remarks come a day before Netanyahu's coming talks with President Donald Trump in Washington to secure a 60-day Gaza ceasefire. The talks come in a crucial time as Israel is facing mounting pressure to end the war and maintain a permanent ceasefire. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 118,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
