Madani community urged to monitor internet use at NADI centres
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil emphasised that the ministry provides internet access at NADI centres to enable rural residents to access verified information on current issues.
'When we provide internet services, but the websites visited by residents and users are inappropriate, it's very unhelpful,' he said during the 'Sembang Santai' programme with the Madani Community for the Papar parliamentary constituency.
Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesman, reiterated the ministry's commitment to expanding internet infrastructure, including constructing towers in populated areas.
However, he stressed that these efforts would be futile if the internet is misused.
He urged Madani Community members to act as information relays, ensuring accurate government announcements are clearly communicated to locals.
Using Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent appreciation announcement as an example, Fahmi said briefings for Madani Community members, including NADI managers, should be conducted within 24 hours to ensure proper understanding.
'The Madani Community must not only act as the 'eyes' but also the 'mouths', ensuring factual clarity before sharing information in local dialects,' he said.
Fahmi also highlighted the importance of confident communication and suggested NADI centres organise awareness programmes on online fraud and safety, particularly for children under 13. – Bernama

'I don't want our children to inherit the nation's debt'
MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned that unchecked national debt could burden future generations, stressing his government's duty to rein in borrowing before it spirals further. He said his persistent warnings about national debt were driven by a responsibility to prevent the burden from being inherited by future generations. Anwar said he would not resort to populist spending at the expense of the country's financial stability. "I could easily spend more and look popular, but who will pay later? It will be our children. "That's not leadership, that's irresponsibility." He, however, said he had no objection to borrowing for meaningful development, especially for rural communities. "When the late Tun Abdul Razak was prime minister, he took World Bank loans to build rural projects, that I can accept. Our fathers borrowed to uplift the people. "But debt because of 'sakau' (embezzlement) – that is what we fight against. "We must act against it because money taken from the people must be returned to the people," he said.

PM Anwar flags off 2025 KMJG convoy in Muar for National Month
MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially flagged off the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy at Dataran Tanjung Emas, marking the beginning of National Month celebrations. The event showcased nationwide unity, with participation from fishermen, security forces, and motorsport enthusiasts. A total of 59 fishing boats sailed along the Muar river, proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang. Government vessels from the Department of Marine, MMEA, and Marine Police also joined, reinforcing coastal community involvement. On land, 88 vehicles carried 133 participants from agencies like JAPEN, PDRM, and Pos Malaysia. The convoy will travel through 88 checkpoints nationwide, covering Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan before culminating at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31. Fly Jalur Gemilang with pride, says Fahmi
MUAR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on all Malaysians to support the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' campaign as a symbol of patriotism and unity ahead of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations. Fahmi, who is also chairman of the Main Committee for the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations, encouraged the public to proudly display the national flag at their homes, vehicles, offices, schools, and business premises as a show of support. "Fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly and properly wherever you are," he said at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 Campaign at Dataran Tanjung Emas here today. The event was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Information Department director-general Julina Johan.
