Fly Jalur Gemilang with pride, says Fahmi

MUAR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on all Malaysians to support the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' campaign as a symbol of patriotism and unity ahead of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations.
Fahmi, who is also chairman of the Main Committee for the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations, encouraged the public to proudly display the national flag at their homes, vehicles, offices, schools, and business premises as a show of support.
"Fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly and properly wherever you are," he said at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 Campaign at Dataran Tanjung Emas here today.
The event was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Information Department director-general Julina Johan.
Fahmi said the National Month celebration is not merely symbolic, but a manifestation of shared responsibility in fostering patriotism and strengthening love for the nation.
"It is a time for us to reflect on history, honour past sacrifices and renew our commitment to this beloved nation," he said.
He also stressed the importance of appreciating the true meaning of independence so that Malaysians can better understand the value of freedom and life in an independent nation.
"This is how we give meaning to life and to the importance of being a free society.
"Before the Federation of Malaya gained independence, our society was shaped by the unique diversity of its communities," he said.
Fahmi added that the spirit of unity, built over the past 68 years through the Federal Constitution, remains the cornerstone of the country's peace and stability.

Chief Secretary congratulates PM Anwar for facilitating Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire talks

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his significant role in facilitating ceasefire negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand in Putrajaya yesterday. In a Facebook post today, Shamsul Azri said the prime minister's efforts, in his capacity as the current Asean Chair, reflected Malaysia's commitment to playing a proactive role at the regional level. "The Malaysian prime minister was a key figure in the peace efforts to end the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. "As Asean Chair 2025, Malaysia has played an important role in fostering consensus, promoting peaceful negotiations, upholding humanitarian principles and ensuring regional security," he said. On Monday, Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting he chaired in Putrajaya. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai attended the meeting. Also present were United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and China's Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing. The US co-organised the meeting, while China joined as an observer in support of a peaceful resolution. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have disputed an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border for decades. Tensions have flared since May 28 following a skirmish near the disputed Preah Vihear area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. The most recent hostilities broke out on July 24, with armed clashes reported along Cambodia's northern border region, resulting in casualties on both sides. — BERNAMA

Wan Rosdy: Anwar's role in Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire deserves full support

KUANTAN: The success of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in representing Malaysia as ASEAN Chair and leading the peace initiative between Thailand and Cambodia should be supported by all Malaysians, regardless of political ideology, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said. He said this initiative also reflects Malaysia's capability as a respected diplomatic actor on the international stage. "In my view, being a politician does not mean everything must be politicised, especially when it involves foreign relations and global humanitarian issues. "Malaysia's ability to bring together the conflicting parties and successfully broker a ceasefire is an achievement we should all be proud of," he said in a statement today. In this regard, he called on all parties to assess international matters with maturity and wisdom, and to avoid placing political interests above the need to safeguard the country's reputation and the dignity of Malaysians on the global stage. Yesterday, Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting chaired by him in Putrajaya.
