Parliament security breach: Delhi HC grants bail to accused Neelam Azad, Mahesh Kumawat
Parliament security breach: Two accused in the December 2023 Parliament security breach case were granted bail by the Delhi High Court on Wednesday with a condition that they were not to give interviews to media outlets or make social media posts related to the incident. The accused had challenged a trial court's order rejecting their bail plea.
A bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar granted relief to Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each and two sureties of the like amount.

In a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, accused Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D allegedly jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, released yellow gas from canisters and sloganeered before they were overpowered by some MPs.
Around the same time, two other accused – Amol Shinde and Azad – allegedly sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting 'tanashahi nahi chalegi (dictatorship won't work)' outside Parliament premises.

Kuppam (Chittoor district): Barely weeks after a video from Kuppam's Narayanapuram village went viral showing a woman tied to a tree and beaten over a loan dispute, another video surfaced on Monday from Thammiganipalli in Santhipuram mandal. This time, it was found to be a staged act by a son and his mother to gain sympathy in a property dispute with their extended family. The incident in Thammiganipalli involved Gangamma, the second wife of a man named Muneppa, who passed away on July 5. Following his funeral on July 13, tensions reportedly escalated over division of assets. The next morning, Gangamma's son Suresh filmed her standing near an electric pole with drip pipes loosely wrapped around her and shared it on Facebook, claiming she had been tied up by Manjunath, the son of Muneppa's first wife Munemma. However, police investigation revealed that Manjunath was not at the spot during the incident. Munemma's daughters were nearby cutting grass, and the video was taken in their presence. When officers from Rallabudugur visited the location, they confirmed that Gangamma was not actually tied but standing on her own. The entire act was staged to create pressure in the ongoing dispute over family property. This incident comes in the backdrop of a widely reported case from Narayanapuram in June, where Sirisha, a daily wage worker from Bengaluru, was tied to a tree and beaten by four members of a local family. Her husband had taken a loan of Rs 80,000 from a villager and left without repaying. Sirisha, who had returned to her village to collect her son's school certificate, was assaulted in public view. The video drew sharp reactions across the State. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had then spoken directly to Sirisha and assured her of government support, instructing police to take strict action against the accused. In contrast, Monday's incident in Santhipuram has been confirmed as a deliberate attempt to mislead. Police are now considering legal action against Suresh for spreading false information.

Burglar held, gold worth Rs 37L recovered
Tirupati: Naidupeta police arrested a burglar who is wanted in 14 cases and recovered from him 416 gm gold ornaments worth Rs 37L. Following the series of house burglaries reported in Naidupeta, Tada, Sri City and Varadaiah Palem police stations, District SP V Harshavardhan Raju set up special teams to investigate and nab the culprits. The police party on Sunday took a person into custody and interrogated them. It was found in the inquiry that he was also involved in 4 chain-snatching arrested identified as Chandaka Manikanta (18). National Sports Governance Bill to be tabled in Parliament
New Delhi: Thelong-delayed National Sports Governance Bill will be tabled in the Parliament in this upcoming Monsoon Session, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, announced here on Monday. The bill, which has been in the process since October 2024, aims to ensure transparency, fairness and good governance in the country's sports ecosystem. 'The bill will be tabled in the Parliament during the upcoming session. I will give more details in a couple of days,' Dr Mandaviya told the media at an event launching the Department of Youth Affairs' initiatives against drug addiction. The bill aims to establish a regulatory board, called the Sports Regulatory Board of India, with the authority to grant recognition and allocate funding to National Sports Federations (NSFs) based on their adherence to provisions related to good governance. It has been debated for a long and kept pending because of opposition by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which has termed its provisions as interference by the government in the functioning of the NSFs, which contravenes provisions of the Olympic Charter. The draft National Sports Governance Bill 2024 proposes the setting up of Ethics Commissions and Dispute Resolution Commissions to ensure transparency in governance. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had started the consultation process on the National Sports Governance Bill, 2024 by putting it in the public domain in October 2024, seeking suggestions/comments on its provisions. The bill also proposes setting up some regulations for the National Olympic Committee, which is the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It says that the NOC shall comply with all requirements applicable to it under this Bill and such additional eligibility criteria for recognition as may be prescribed by the Central Government under this Bill shall ensure that its constitution incorporates and complies with all the requirements specified in this Bill as applicable to it and any rules prescribed by the Central Government in relation thereto from time to time. The IOA has objected to such provisions, claiming that its constitution will only adhere to provisions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Charter. Many NSFs, too, have opposed some provisions of this bill as they go against the regulations of the International Sports Federations (IFs).
