Wynne Evans dropped by BBC after 'inappropriate language' on Strictly tour

Wynne Evans has said he has been dropped by the BBC, following an apology saying that he used 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour. The Welsh opera singer, 53, will no longer be a BBC Radio Wales presenter, he announced yesterday.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: 'Wynne Evans is not under contract with the BBC. He is not returning to the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Wales and there are currently no plans to work with him.'
Evans, known for the Go.Compare insurance advertisements, revealed in January he would be taking some time out from both his radio show and the Strictly tour to prioritise his wellbeing.
Earlier this month he claimed in an interview with the Sun on Sunday that he had not seen the statement apologising for the remark - an assertion that is believed to have been dismissed by the BBC.
On Instagram on Friday, he wrote: 'My beloved Wynners, From the very depths of my heart - thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days.
"Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know. It breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract so I won't be returning to my radio show.
"I'm gutted. That show wasn't just work - it was home. It was us. We laughed, we cried, we sang like nobody was listening. And somehow, through the airwaves, we became a family.'
Evans thanked his fans, and said he would have an online programme called The Wynne Evans Show, which he called 'terrifying'. 'This is our next adventure. And I need you more than ever,' he added.
'We will have great music, my question of the day, the mystery voice, your soundtrack stories and so much more, because we have each other again. We have a new home. I'm bringing more presenters soon and I am sure you'll recognise a few of the faces.'
Evans added that he was 'full of nerves. Full of hope. Full of love. Because when we show up for each other - like we always have - anything is possible'.
Earlier this year, he apologised for language that he called 'inappropriate and unacceptable' after The Mail On Sunday reported that Evans was heard making a remark to a woman in a video filmed during the Strictly launch event.
It is understood he was given a warning over the remark by tour producers.
In January, he said: 'I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
'I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.'
The singer, who performed in the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Of The Opera and also won 2023's Celebrity MasterChef, told the Sun on Sunday earlier this month that the Strictly comment was not sexual or directed at one of the female cast but was a nickname for fellow contestant, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick.
He told the paper: 'I didn't see the statement, Old Spit-roast Boy was a nickname for Jamie Borthwick. I'm not a bad guy, I'm not a misogynist, I'm not any of these things.'
Evans added: 'And so I went, 'I'm so sorry'. And that was taken as a formal apology, so the press team issued a statement. I didn't see it.
'When I read the apology within the context of the story as it had been written, I was absolutely horrified.'
It is understood any statement issued on Evans' behalf by the BBC was fully approved by him, and the singer also posted his own statement on Instagram in which he apologised.
During his time on Strictly, there was controversy over a clip on the show of him placing his hand on his professional partner Katya Jones' waist, which she moved. They both apologised claiming it had been a 'joke'.
During January and February this year, Evans' six-part travel programme, Wynne & Joanna: All At Sea - with Welsh actress and Gavin And Stacey star Joanna Page - aired on BBC One.

Jack Osbourne says his dad Ozzy's final months were filmed for a BBC documentary

's final months were filmed for a BBC documentary, his son Jack has revealed. Osbourne made his remarks in today's Weekend magazine in an interview conducted before Ozzy's death at the age of 76 this week. Ozzy's youngest son, 39, told the Mail at the time of the interview that cameras were there filming Ozzy and his wife Sharon in their Buckinghamshire mansion. The series Home To Roost originally promised to follow the couple as they returned to their home in Buckinghamshire after 20 years of living in the US, but is now likely to be more of a tribute to the late rock star. He also confirmed that his father had finished an autobiography titled Last Rites, which is due out in the autumn. Jack also spoke excitedly about his work as co-producer on the much-anticipated biopic on his father. He promised there would be lots of drugs, groupies and mayhem in the dramatic retelling, but also Ozzy and Sharon's love story. He said: 'Right now it'll take place over the Sabbath era and early 1980s. We're definitely going for a more adult rating for the film. 'This is by no means going to be a fluff piece.' Oppenheimer's Oscar and Bafta-nominated Florence Pugh has been touted as a prospective Sharon with Hollywood funnyman Bill Hader as a possible Ozzy. Lee Hall, who wrote the Elton John biopic Rocketman, has submitted a draft script. 'Right now we're going through a rewrite with Craig Borten, who wrote [Matthew McConaughey-starring] Dallas Buyers Club,' Jack said. Five days before the interview with Jack, Ozzy had played a farewell concert in front of 40,000 at Birmingham's Villa Park and around 5 million watching on the live stream to belt out their classics such as Iron Man and Paranoid as he reunited with his band Black Sabbath for the first time in eight years. The plaudits following the gig were incredible, as his son told him afterwards, urging him: 'Dad, you've got to see these reviews – they're all amazing. Everyone loved the show and your performance.' Jack said watching his dad on stage was 'very emotional. Just to see him up there doing his job was great. We were all tearing up.' His dad, however, remained nonplussed and replied with his typical blunt wit: 'Lot of f***ing good that does me. I'm retired now!' In the interview, Jack gave no clue that Ozzy's demise would be so soon. He said: 'Listen, everyone gets old, everyone slows down as you age – it's part of the journey. 'I just try and support him as much as I can. We all do.' In a statement issued by the Osbournes after his death, they remarked that during his final moments, 'he was with his family and surrounded by love'. Kelly Osbourne said she had lost her 'best friend' following the death of her father. In a heartfelt message posted to her Instagram stories on Thursday, Kelly shared lyrics from the Black Sabbath song Changes, a track she famously re-recorded with her father. 'I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had,' she wrote next to an emoji of a broken heart. Released in 2003, their re-imagined duet hit number one on the UK singles chart. The duo became only the second father-daughter act to top the charts, following Nancy and Frank Sinatra's Somethin' Stupid in 1967.

"As soon as Strictly finishes, it's like, get out the hotel, get out the flat, go home, but that is a life- altering event for the individual who's been subject to the headlines, often at the hand of these shows, because these shows sometimes feed stories to the media. "TV is manipulative and it's a distortion of truth, there's always an ulterior motive. "People aren't being fed the unadulterated, objective truth. And I certainly don't subscribe to that." Continuing, John recounted how he was "around 23" during his time on Bake Off. He recalled thinking his "existence hinged on being successful in television." John added: "But I think when you go through all these different permutations of your life, you start to realise that the b******t just does not matter.
