KTR reaches Press Club after accepting CM Revanth Reddy's debate challenge

Hans India19 hours ago
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday reached Somajiguda Press Club in Hyderabad for a public debate with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on farmers' issues.
Rama Rao, who had accepted the Chief Minister's challenge for the debate, reached the Press Club along with several party leaders.
Addressing the party leaders, he alleged that the Chief Minister was running away from debate after throwing the challenge.
"We came to know that the Chief Minister is in Delhi. We were ready for debate with Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister or any Minister but nobody turned up," he said.
He alleged that 600 farmers committed suicide during the last 18 months. He said the Congress betrayed people after coming to power by making 420 promises and six guarantees.
KTR claimed that he has brought the list of farmers who committed suicide, whose loans were not waived and who were not given a bonus and the financial aid under Rythu Bharosa.
Stating that water, funds and jobs were the key issues during the Telangana movement, KTR alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is diverting river waters to his friend, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, sending funds to Delhi and giving jobs to his people.
On the reports that Revanth Reddy was visiting Delhi to get "fertiliser bags" for the state, the BRS leader remarked that "people know what bags he was carrying to Delhi to save his chair".
Police stepped up security at Press Club since morning as a large number of BRS leaders and workers gathered there.
Before leaving for Press Club, KTR told media persons at the BRS office, Telangana Bhavan, that he was ready to debate on farm loan waiver, bonus for paddy and all other issues related to farmers.
Addressing a meeting of Congress workers on July 4 in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the Chief Minister had thrown a challenge for public debate on what the previous BRS government did and what the Congress government was doing for the welfare of farmers.
Accepting the challenge, KTR had offered to meet at any location chosen by the Chief Minister - whether in CM Reddy's constituency Kodangal, his native village Kondareddypally, or even at the Ambedkar statue or Somajiguda Press Club in Hyderabad. When there was no response from the Chief Minister, the BRS leader declared that he was ready for debate at the Press Club.
The BRS leader said that it has become the Chief Minister's habit to run away after throwing a challenge for debates.
KTR said he was ready for a debate with the Chief Minister on any issue.
KTR said that they were ready for debate even in the Assembly, provided their mikes were not cut in the middle.
The former minister alleged that the Congress government failed to implement even one out of 420 poll promises. He said the BRS had been questioning the government for the last 18 months for failing to honour its commitments.

Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah to meet Rahul Gandhi today amid fresh push to change CM

Bengaluru/New Delhi: Chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar , are set to meet Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi Wednesday night, amid fresh demands from Shivakumar's supporters for a leadership transition in Karnataka. The meeting comes at a time when tensions within the Congress state unit have resurfaced, with several MLAs publicly backing Shivakumar to take over the chief minister's post later this year. Shivakumar told reporters in New Delhi Tuesday, "The CM, AICC general secretaries, and I will hold a meeting to discuss party-related matters." Asked if the meeting would deliberate on making Siddaramaiah the chairman of the party's OBC committee — seen by some as a possible soft exit strategy — he said: "Siddaramaiah is a prominent leader of the backward classes, and the party is making use of his leadership skills. The national-level OBC committee meeting scheduled for July 15 will be held under his leadership in Bengaluru." "Congress is making use of his leadership and capabilities," Shivakumar said. Asked about growing calls within the party for his elevation, Shivakumar said, "The CM post is not vacant. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo So, this is not the right time to talk about it." The latest push for a change at the helm comes despite repeated denials from Congress' high command and Siddaramaiah himself, who has asserted he will complete a full five-year term. Shivakumar, too, has previously said he has no choice but to support the CM. But several legislators, especially from Bengaluru south district, have reignited the debate. "All our district MLAs want Shivakumar to become CM. There's no discrepancy about it. High command should decide," Channapatna MLA CP Yogeeshwara said Tuesday. "We, the MLAs, are demanding it… I want Shivakumar to become CM." HA Iqbal Hussain, Ramanagara MLA and a staunch Shivakumar supporter, even suggested a change could happen within months. "Yes, I'm saying it. Some functionaries are hinting at revolutionary political developments after Sept. A decision will be made within 2-3 months," he said. He went on to say: "You all know what our strength was before this govt was formed… His (Shivakumar's) strategy and programmes are history now. The high command is aware of the situation, and we are confident it will take an appropriate decision at the right time." Senior Congress MLA and former minister Tanveer Sait, who is from Siddaramaiah's home district Mysuru said the party must be open to transition. "I feel leadership can't be stagnant. New leaders must come and grow. Whenever the opportunity is given, it'll happen," he said. Calls for a new CM come amid multiple meetings between Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, with Congress MLAs to quell dissent. "The KPCC chief and I have spoken about this... Everyone can have ambitions and desires. I don't want to say anything more," Surjewala said. Siddaramaiah will join Shivakumar in Delhi on Wednesday. Shivakumar is scheduled to meet defence minister Rajnath Singh ahead of the meeting with Rahul. It is unclear whether they will meet Singh jointly or separately.
