
Major corporate sponsors drop support for Denver Pride
Why it matters: This is a major pivot for once-proud corporate America and puts at risk critical services for LGBTQ+ individuals in Denver.
State of play: Denver Pride is the largest annual fundraiser for The Center on Colfax, a nonprofit that offers free mental health support and programs for transgender and gender-diverse individuals in the community.
In April, the center reported a $230,000 decrease in sponsorship for its two-day Pride event that features a festival, 5K and parade.
New sponsors are helping fill the gap, but spokesperson Ashley Schoenbauer tells us fundraising still lags previous years.
The intrigue: The center declined to name the sponsors it lost, but its website shows top-level donors decreased from 16 to 11 this year.
Nissan, Target, Verizon and Walmart are among the names that no longer appear on the sponsor website for Denver Pride, an Axios Denver review found.
Other big names decreased their level of giving, such as Starbucks, JPMorganChase and Cupcake wines.
Between the lines: The reasoning varies, Schoenbauer tells us, including shifting budget priorities and economic concerns. But the rollback of DEI initiatives is a key factor.
One top-level sponsor standing firm is Molson Coors. The beverage company received blowback in 2023 for its sponsorship at a time when other big brands were pulling back from supporting the LGBTQ community.
The big picture: 39% of corporations are limiting external Pride Month engagements this year, according to Gravity Research data.

Nissan launched its $17,000 N7 electric sedan in China on April 28, and the model has already received over 20,000 orders. In May, Nissan delivered 3,034 N7s in China, while the Mazda EZ-6, a competing electric sedan starting at $19,600, sold 1,821 units. Nissan confirmed that the N7 will expand to global markets, but hasn't yet specified which countries. While the N7 and the EZ-6 didn't sell as many units in May as models like Toyota's new bZ3X electric SUV, the two vehicles are helping deliver the value that Chinese consumers are looking for in an electric sedan, and Nissan has Mazda beat beyond price. Both models are comparable in size, with the N7 measuring 194 inches in length and 74.6 inches in width, and the EZ-6 measuring 193.7 inches in length and 74.6 inches in width. The N7 offers two motor options with 215 and 268 horsepower, respectively, while the EZ-6's electric powertrain delivers 258 horsepower. An EZ-6 gets you from 0-62 MPH in 6.2 seconds, and the 268-horsepower N7 isn't far behind at 6.9 seconds. While Mazda offers an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) EZ-6 that's fundamentally an electric car, this version also features a 1.5-liter gas engine used as a battery recharging generator, so we'll focus on the EV version. Regarding range, the N7's two lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery options-58 kWh and 73 kWh-yield 335 miles and 388 miles of range, respectively. Mazda's fully electric EZ-6 offers a 373-mile range. You'll pay $19,200 to $20,800 for a 73 kWh N7 in China, placing it neck and neck with the EZ-6 in terms of pricing. Those prioritizing charging speed will favor the N7, which charges from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes, three minutes faster than the EZ-6. Inside, Nissan's N7 contains a 15.6-inch center console display, while the EX-6 features a 14.6-inch infotainment screen. You'll also get more trunk space within an N7 at 17.8 cu ft compared to this Mazda's 12.3 cu ft. The EX-6 offers a bit more curb appeal than the N7 with a sportier look, but the N7's exterior seems to mirror the modern, minimalist EV design sentiment that consumers are after from brands like Tesla. While Nissan hasn't yet confirmed which markets the N7 will first expand to, Japan and Australia are rumored to be frontrunners, according to Carscoops. Other possibilities include Malaysia and limited European markets. In 45 days, Nissan has moved 10,000 N7 units, indicating promising growth from May's 3,034 deliveries. Nissan has historically experienced struggles in the Chinese and American EV markets, so the N7's early momentum is a bigger win for the automaker than it may seem. Drivers in the U.S. can also look forward to Nissan's redesigned Leaf SUV that's debuting in the fall. The 2026 Leaf is expected to cost more than the N7, with an unconfirmed starting price in the mid-$30,000s, but it remains more accessible than many electric SUVs in its class. Village estate could be blocked as developer refuses to build affordable homes
Homes in a Derbyshire village that had been granted permission by councillors are now set to be rejected because the developer will not agree to build any affordable houses or pay for improvements. Woodall Homes will not agree to build 17 affordable homes and pay £63,000 in improvements to nearby health facilities, parks and allotments as part of a 57-home development surrounding Jacksons Ley in Middleton by Wirksworth. Derbyshire Dales district councillors approved the plans in November 2023 with officials to seal the required infrastructure payments and affordable homes via a legal agreement – as is common practice with many housing developments. However, 19 months later, council officials have said: 'Work progressed on preparing the legal agreement to secure the planning obligations but ultimately stalled due to an unwillingness of all the parties to sign the legal agreement.' As a result, having previously urged councillors to approve the plans, they are now advising them to change their mind and reject the scheme at a meeting on Tuesday, July 8, due to the lack of affordable homes and necessary financial contributions. The plans, which had seen 13 objections from residents, along with opposition from Middleton Parish Council, had required £51,300 for improvements at nearby medical centres, £8,327.70 for parks and £3,368.70 for allotments. 'This makes the development unacceptable in planning terms and contrary to the development plan. In the absence of a completed legal agreement, the only course of action is to refuse the application.' The proposed new 57-home development would encircle the new-build Jacksons Ley development, which was only approved at appeal. During the November 2023 planning meeting, Darren Abbott, on behalf of Woodall Homes, said the firm aimed to replicate its successful schemes in Darley Dale, Matlock and Tansley. He said the plot 'straddles' the settlement boundary and part of the site is allocated for 45 homes, representing a 'logical and sustainable development'. Mr Abbott said the firm had reduced the number of homes planned on-site from 75 to 57 due to the concerns of consultees and residents, saying the scheme would 'create an attractive gateway into the village'. He said the site would cater for first-time buyers, 'downsizers' and people with mobility requirements – particularly through the inclusion of seven bungalows. Cllr Peter Slack had said: 'It is squashing houses and gardens in a small area. It is not a way people should be living. They should have a reasonable garden. Cars are going to be on pavements, it is all squashed in. It is a very, very poor design altogether.'

Nissan Is Still Selling a Sedan It Stopped Making Two Years Ago
The rise of crossovers has taken its toll on sedans, but not everyone has been bitten by the SUV bug. Nissan currently has three sedans in its portfolio, but today we're discussing a fourth model, one that was discontinued some time ago. The last Maxima was assembled back in mid-2023, and yet it still appears in the latest sales chart. Two units were sold in the second quarter of 2025, with another 11 delivered in the previous quarter. As someone living in Europe, where automakers typically don't keep such large inventories, it's baffling to see a car still being sold as new two years after production ended. I can only imagine dealers are eager to get these off their lots to make room for shiny new SUVs your neighbors won't stop buying. In fact, Nissan is happy to report strong Q2 2025 sales for several crossovers: the Kicks rose by 29.9%, the Pathfinder jumped by 30.8%, and the Ariya surged by 43.6%. But sedans aren't giving up without a fight. The Versa surged 71.9% in the first half of the year, reaching 30,619 units. It raises the question of whether Nissan's rumored decision to discontinue the subcompact sedan makes sense. The Versa is allegedly set to be phased out after the 2025 model year. The larger Altima is also reportedly on the chopping block, according to the same Automotive News report. It's expected to be retired after the 2026 model year. In the meantime, demand in the first six months of 2025 rose by 3.7% to 62,107 units. What about the Sentra? It dipped by 3.9% to 85,523 units through June, but a new generation is just around the corner.
