Over 70kg Of Ganja Seized In Kepong, Two Men Detained

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 Bernama) -- Police arrested two men and seized 70 compressed packages of ganja weighing more than 73 kilogrammes in a raid along Jalan Baiduri, Kepong, last Tuesday.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) acting director DCP Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said the duo, believed to have been active as drug transporters since early this year, were arrested at 1.25 am.
He said initial investigations revealed that all the drugs, worth RM227,063, had been smuggled in from a neighbouring country through the Perlis border.
'The raid, conducted with the Perlis NCID, led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 38 and 33, and the seizure of a Perodua Aruz.
'Both suspects tested negative for drugs,' he said in a statement today.
Mat Zani said checks revealed that the first suspect had 17 previous criminal records, while the second had four prior records, including drug-related offences.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and action had also been taken against the suspects under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
He added that two pairs of gold earrings, estimated to be worth RM1,950, were also seized, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to RM229,013.
Mat Zani said both suspects had been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation, while the police were actively tracking down the remaining syndicate members still at large.

KUANTAN: Police have arrested a young man on suspicion of concealing the birth and death of a baby boy in a hilly area in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, on Thursday (July 17). "The suspect's father saw a patch of soil that had been dug up when he was going to the water tank located behind their house in the hilly location. He then stumbled on a white cloth bundle containing the dead baby and called police," he said on Friday. Supt Azri said the 19-year-old suspect, who works as a cleaner at a homestay, admitted to burying the remains of the two-day-old baby born to his 21-year-old stepsister. "Following that, police arrested the man at 5.30pm at his home in Kampung Melayu Desa Kayangan on Thursday and seized tools such as hoes and shovels used to dig the ground to bury the baby," he said. The man has been remanded for four days from Friday to assist in investigations under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth and death of a baby. - Bernama

LAHAD DATU: A newborn baby boy was abandoned in front of a house in Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali here early this morning. Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the baby was found by a passerby at 3.06am and was sent to the hospital for further treatment. "The baby is currently in stable condition, the investigation is ongoing to track those responsible," he said in a statement here today, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for baby dumping. LABUAN: A total of RM224,718.51 worth of goods have been seized here following intensive enforcement actions by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to date this year. So far, its Labuan branch has inspected 9,356 business premises across the island, leading to 96 enforcement cases under five different legislations. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Labuan director Junaidah Arbain said the most common violations involved the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, with 49 cases, followed closely by 31 cases under the Weights and Measures Act 1972. "Additionally, eight cases were recorded under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, five under the Trade Descriptions Act, and three under the Consumer Protection Act 1999. "Alongside the seizures, enforcement efforts included the issuance of compounds amounting to RM72,500 and court-imposed fines totalling RM93,500," she told Bernama today. Ministry officials also received and resolved all 77 consumer complaints lodged during the same period. Junaidah said the most frequent grievance involved pricing issues, accounting for 32 complaints. "KPDN Labuan emphasises that all complaints have been fully investigated and no cases remain pending. "The ministry reaffirms its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring business compliance, pledging to continue its rigorous enforcement and awareness efforts throughout the year," she said. – Bernama
