Billy Connolly scarecrow stolen from garden near Big Yin's former home

Louise, 65, whose late brother-in-law Davie was Billy's minder when he was a resident in Drymen, Stirlingshire, is hoping the comedian himself might make an appeal for the scarecrow to be brought home. Louise Haggerty is clutching at straws trying to track down her stolen Billy Connolly scarecrow. It was nicked from her front garden just a few hundred yards from where the Big Yin himself lived in the late 70s. ‌ Louise, 65, whose late brother-in-law Davie was Billy's minder and best pal when he was a resident in Drymen, Stirlingshire, is hoping the comedian himself might make an appeal for the scarecrow's return if he reads the Record. ‌ She said: 'Every year as part of the Drymen Gala Day celebrations, there's a scarecrow competition and this year we decided to do Billy with his banana feet. 'It turned out great and you have no idea the number of people who stopped to photograph it. Some even climbed up to our fence to have their picture taken beside Billy. 'The gala committee decided on a Hawaiian theme for the scarecrows this year so we just shoved a garland round its neck. 'It was great. I went into the butcher's and he said it was the talk of the steamie. 'But on Saturday night, a car pulled up, and somebody jumped out and stole our scarecrow. ‌ 'It's wearing my leggings and T-shirt and I'd like them back. 'I was angry at first but we can see the funny side now. 'If the scarecrow is off on a haycation somewhere and somebody's getting pleasure from it, fair enough. But I'd hate to think it's been flytipped, because a lot of work went into it. I made the big banana feet from old oilskins and the hair, beard and eyebrows from sheep's wool I dyed black. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Just before it was stolen, John heard a lot of cackling and laughing and a horn beep, beep, beeping. ‌ 'He went outside and all that was left of Billy was his glasses. 'He's raging and says he'd like to get his hands on whoever stole Billy. 'It seems like it was just a quick grab and go. ‌ 'The gala was last month but I was going to leave it out until the end of August just because of the amount of interest it sparked. 'Whoever has taken it has ruined the fun and joy for other people.' ‌ After the couple divorced, he moved to London and now lives in Florida with second wife Pamela Stephenson. Louise said: 'We'd love to know where the scarecrow is now. 'John's brother Davie was great friends with Billy when he lived here all those years ago so maybe if he reads the Daily Record, he could put out an appeal for the return of the scarecrow and help us get it back.'

Mum, 39, dies after being found injured on street as police launch murder probe

Officers were called to a report that a woman had been seriously injured at around 4.25pm on Saturday. She was treated by paramedics but pronounced dead at the scene Police have launched a murder inquiry after 39-year-old mum died after being found seriously injured in the street. Yesterday afternoon emergency services rushed to South Road at about 4.25pm upon receiving reports of a woman on the road sustaining severe injuries Despite the swift response of paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌ A 20-year-old man has been charged, but no further details have been given. Police have now identified the victim as Dr Fortune Gomo, a mother who had been residing in the area. Police Scotland have now confirmed:"A post-mortem has taken place and her death is now being treated as murder." ‌ As tributes pour in, a lifelong friend from her high school and university days in Zimbabwe remembers Dr Gomo's exceptional intellect and heartfelt nature. Angela Machonesa, who studied alongside Dr Gomo both at Chinhoyi High School and the National University of Science and Technology, took to social media to honour her friend's memory. Angela said: "She was the kind of person you'd go to when you needed clarity, not just of mind, but of heart. She listened. She cared. She uplifted. No wonder she went on to earn her PhD. It was only natural. Her path was written in the stars long ago. To serve. To lead. To heal. And she was doing just that." Lamenting the heinous act that cut short a life dedicated to service, Angela stated: "But now, that dream, our Fortune's dream, has been violently, senselessly, stolen from us all." In a heart-wrenching conclusion, she expressed sorrow for the irreplaceable loss for Dr Gomo's child and family: "A child will now grow up without the love and presence of a mother. A family will mourn a daughter who once lit up their home with hope and promise." Ms Machonesa revealed that her paths diverged from Dr Gomo after they completed their studies. Dr Gomo, an environmental and water resources scientist, had expertise in areas such as water management, environmental sustainability, and policy creation. ‌ Her social media profile indicated she worked at Scottish Water, focusing on water resources planning. The University of Dundee awarded her a doctorate in Geography and Environmental Science. For her PhD, Dr Gomo examined the relationship between environmental concerns and policymaking within Malawi's Zambezi river basin. BBC News reported Professor Nigel Seaton, interim principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Dundee, expressing that the passing of the former research associate "is a truly shocking event in our city and for our university community". Professor Seaton shared his condolences, noting: "It will be particularly distressing for those who knew and worked with Fortune throughout her time here at the university, and for all of those in our close-knit community of African colleagues and students." ‌ A legal report is to be presented to the Procurator Fiscal, while the apprehended man is set to face Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday. Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp, leading the investigation, conveyed his sympathy towards Dr Gomo's loved ones. Sharp asked for the family's privacy during this time, stating: "They are being supported by specialist officers and I would ask that their privacy is respected,". Furthermore, Det Supt Sharp stated: "Our enquiries are continuing and I remain satisfied that the incident poses no wider risk to the public. At this early stage of the investigation we are following a number of lines of inquiry." He said he is "acutely aware of content circulating on social media" and urged members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the incident. There will be an increased police presence in the area. Witnesses and anyone with information on the incident have been asked to contact the force on 101 quoting incident number 2283 of July 5 2025. They can also speak to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

We can reveal Natalie Herron sold sordid snaps on sex site OnlyFans. Advertisement 2 She shared sickening videos of tiny monkeys being badly abused Last month she was jailed for two years and three months for her role in the animal abuse network. Herron, 39, of Airdrie, sold the pornographic images for cash while she helped lead a worldwide monkey abuse ring, which paid thugs to rip tiny macaques from their mothers in Indonesia then butcher them. The terrified animals were killed in agonising ways dreamt up by the group, including by crucifixion and machete attacks. The deranged fiend, from Airdrie, Lanarkshire, also binged on horrendous online clips of humans being decapitated, boasting: 'It goes beyond a hobby. It's almost a way of life.' Herron was sentenced at the town's sheriff court last month. Advertisement But it has now emerged she made a living from selling saucy snaps to perverts. A local said: 'It's likely she was going between stripping off for cash and watching monkeys being abused. 'It takes a seriously warped mind to sell sexy stuff while you are involved in animal torture. But nothing surprises me about her. 'She lived out all her sick fantasies online and hid her evil obsessions from her friends and family.' 2 Natalie Herron was jailed Advertisement Mother-of-two Herron hid her evil obsession by pretending to be an animal lover. The Scottish Sun unmasked Herron by printing the first picture of her. She was finally snared when US cops took down group ringleader Michael Macartney, 51, whose alias was 'The Torture King'. Inside 'hellhole' zoo with monkeys chained by necks & deer knee-deep in filth Scots cops found 1,084 images and videos of monkey torture on her iPhone.
