Mum's 'game-changing' hack to cook bacon quickly and easily without any mess
However, Mary Hunt, the founder of Everyday Cheapskate and all-around domestic guru, has shared some game-changing advice.
The oven is your friend when it comes to bacon, not the hob.
Mary admitted: "Until I gave it a try, I assumed cooking bacon in the oven would be messier and more time-consuming than using my cast iron skillet on the stovetop. But I was so wrong. With the oven method, I can cook an entire pound of bacon without babysitting it."
She went on to say, "The bacon stays flat, there are no splatters and best of all? The smell doesn't linger forever."
It's not just about less fuss; it turns out bacon prepared in the oven tastes better too, thanks to its evenly crisp texture and subtly caramelised flavours, reports the Mirror.
When traditionally frying bacon, you might find the fat sizzling away faster than the meat cooks through, potentially resulting in unevenly cooked rashers. In contrast, baking bacon allows for slow rendering of fat, yielding perfectly crisp strips and amplifying the delicious meaty taste with caramelised sugars.
Here's how you can get perfect bacon from your oven.
Start by positioning your bacon slices flat on a baking tray, ensuring none overlap. If you want to cut down on cleaning time, go the extra mile and lay down some baking parchment over the tray before it heads into the oven, capturing any excess grease.
Slide your bacon into a hot oven and let it sizzle away for about 18 minutes, or until it's crisped up to your liking.
Once it's baked to perfection, transfer the strips onto some kitchen paper to blot away any extra fat before nestling them into a buttered roll for a scrumptious bite.
Cooking expert Mary enthused: "Set the timer, and you're done. The oven takes care of everything automatically. No flipping, no checking, and no splatters."
She continued: "The bacon bubbles and sizzles away, but here's the best part-no splattering! Just perfectly cooked bacon every time, without the mess."

How to make Mary Berry's chicken pasta bake Ingredients 250g of penne pasta 100g of parmesan cheese 50g plain flour 50g of butter (plus extra for greasing) 750ml of hot milk Three skinless boneless chicken breasts Two large tomatoes One onion One tablespoon of Dijon mustard One tablespoon of paprika Two tablespoons of olive oil Salt and pepper Kitchen equipment needed A shallow ovenproof dish Pot Large frying pan Sandwich bag Slotted spoon Method To begin, preheat the oven to 220C (200C Fan or Gas 7) then butter your ovenproof dish. Roughly chop up the onion and place it in a pot of boiling salted water along with the penne pasta. Cook the pasta following the packet instructions then drain, rinse with cold water and set aside for now. Cut the chicken breasts into thin strips and place in a sandwich bag along with the paprika seasoning and some salt and pepper, then shake to coat. Add one tablespoon of olive oil to a frying pan and quickly cook the chicken on high heat for two minutes until golden brown and just cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside for now. To make the pasta sauce, melt the butter in the frying pan, add the flour and mix thoroughly for one minute on a high heat. Gradually add the hot milk and keep mixing until you have a smooth thick sauce. Mum's 'game-changing' hack to cook bacon quickly and easily without any mess
The humble bacon roll could well be the ultimate breakfast treat, yet many avoid cooking it due to the greasy clean-up that typically follows. Man offers pregnant lady his seat and is left stunned by what followed
Commuters often rush to secure a seat on packed trains, particularly during peak hours. Nevertheless, many adhere to the unwritten rule of offering their seat to those who require it more, such as the elderly, disabled, or pregnant women. Numerous public transport vehicles designate priority seats for these groups. However, despite such measures, unpleasant incidents still occur. A recent event on a London train exemplified this, when a commuter offered his seat to a pregnant woman, only to be shocked by what transpired next. A Reddit user recounted how he had stood up for a pregnant woman on the London Underground, only for a man to intervene and claim the seat. The user described: "This morning [I] was heading into London on the Jubilee line from Stanmore. After a few stops I saw a pregnant woman get on and the people in the priority seats just ignored her so I offered her mine," reports the Mirror. "As soon as I stood up a man pushed her away and took the seat I had just vacated. It was bad enough seeing people not give up priority seats but then to see that and he just sat there obstinately as I told him it was for a pregnant woman." What's even more astonishing is that the considerate commuter looked up the man's workplace, as he was wearing a work-branded top. He allegedly discovered that the man is employed by a company that "makes products to help people with mobility and health issues". The Reddit rant has sparked a heated debate, garnering over 600 comments, including responses from the pregnant woman at the centre of the controversy and her husband. She expressed her gratitude to the kind stranger who offered his seat, saying: "Firstly, to the kind man who offered your seat, thank you so much for doing the right thing and I think we were both gobsmacked by this other man's behaviour." The expectant mother then provided more context about the incident: "To clarify the situation, I got on the tube this morning and since I am 8 months pregnant I usually ask for a seat if someone isn't offering it, since I know people can be in their own world or on their phones. "However, this morning, I didn't have to as this kind man stood up and then this other 2 meter tall, well built man pushed in front of me to grab the seat. "I said 'excuse me, I think this seat was meant for me' and the kind man said the same thing. He just looked us both in the eye, didn't say anything but remained seated. "The kind man said 'I can't believe you just took a pregnant woman's seat' but nothing from him, he shortly after pretended to sleep, probably not to face the looks of the rest of the carriage." The woman added that fortunately, another commuter offered her a priority seat, but she "didn't want to kick up more of a fuss". She admitted to being concerned about how the man who took the seat might react next. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week She wrapped up her remarks by saying: "I would have understood if he also had a disability but he had clearly been capable to stand until that point, didn't wear a badge or say anything in his defence. "I think he was just lazy and rude. My main thought was: I wonder what his mum would have said if she saw his behaviour.." Her other half weighed in on the situation following his wife's ordeal, contributing: "So this was my wife! Thank you for noticing as not many do. "Cheers to the person who stood up when my missus needed a seat, but as for the bloke who blanked her, you're an a******!". The man's actions didn't sit well with the online community either. One user expressed: "That's absolutely ridiculous. I would have shamed him loudly in front of everyone." Someone else echoed the sentiment: "The irony of working in health support and doing that... unreal. Hope karma catches him fast." Another urged action: "Contact his work place and name and shame him. Even if it leads nowhere, at least you've taken a stand. What a t*****."
