ISIS module case: Accused Saqib Nachan dies in Delhi hospital; suffered brain haemorrhage
ISIS module case suspect Saqib Nachan passed away in a Delhi hospital on Saturday, days after suffering a brain haemorrhage, PTI reported citing an official. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the national capital for the past four days, according to the official.
The former Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) office-bearer was being held in Tihar prison and was shifted to a hospital on June 24 after his health worsened, an official said.
Doctors later confirmed that Nachan had suffered a brain haemorrhage, the official said. His condition deteriorated further on Saturday, and he passed away at 12.10pm.
The official added that his body would be released to his family after the post-mortem, with his last rites scheduled for Sunday in Borivali village near Padgha.
Nachan was first convicted by the Supreme Court in 1997 for plotting
terror attacks
in collaboration with Khalistani groups in 1990. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a series of bomb blasts between 2002 and 2003, including attacks at Mumbai Central, Vile Parle, and Mulund stations that left several dead and injured.
After completing his sentence, Nachan was arrested in 2012 for the attempted murder of a VHP activist but was released on bail in 2014. In 2023, he was again arrested by the NIA for allegedly administering oaths of allegiance (bayath) to recruits of ISIS.

NIA stated that he joined hands with other accused forming a group known as Pune ISIS module case. He was jailed for 10 years, following his conviction in 2016. As per NIA reports, he was the primary accused in the case. He was also the leader who took the 'bayath' oath of allegiance to the self-styled 'Khalifa' of ISIS for new members. NIA allege that the accused established a village as an autonomous base for purported anti-national activities. In June 2024, NIA indicted him and sixteen other individuals linked to ISIS. The charges levelled against him was alleged conspiracy to recruit youth, making explosives and spread ISIS ideology in India. Nanchan was also associated with making IED in connection with the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case. Maharashtra ATS Conducted Searches The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted searches at more than 20 locations in Borivali and Padgha in early June and detained several suspects. These suspects included Nachan's relatives, who were later released after thorough questioning. Following the April 22nd Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities conducted searches to identify individuals supporting terrorist activities. Increased police presence is evident in Padgha and Bhiwandi in anticipation of a funeral, with officials monitoring the situation closely.

3 killed, 50 injured in stampede during Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri
At least three devotees were reportedly killed and 50 injured after a stampede-like situation broke out during the Rath Yatra in Odisha's Puri in the early hours of Sunday. According to a report by OTV, the incident happened at Saradhabali near Gundicha Temple where the three chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Jagannath are stationed. Around 4 am today, a large crowd had reportedly gathered near the Gundicha temple for darshan. This led to a commotion, killing three people on the spot. The report also said that two trucks carrying charmala (ceremonial garlands) entered the area, causing panic among the large number of devotees present. The deceased have been identified as Prabhati Das, Basanti Sahu, and Premakanta Mohanty. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and an investigation is underway. According to Puri District Collector Siddharth S Swain, the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. The situation of at least six injured people is critical, he told news agency PTI. But they had to be stopped on Grand Road as Lord Balabhadra's Taladwaja chariot got stuck while taking a turn, preventing the other two from advancing. The chariots with deities inside were kept on the road overnight amid tight security. Former CM criticises 'terrible mess' Former chief minister Naveen Patnaik calling the delay a "terrible mess", saying it was impossible not to voice concern over how events unfolded. In a social media post, the former chief minister said, "All we can do is pray.
