Stokes rues missed chances after crushing loss
'Having them 200 for five [211 for five] and then not quite being able to blast them open like we know that we can... they ended up getting a big first-innings total,' recalled Stokes.
'We had a chance to potentially bowl them out for under 350, which would have been a good effort. Then, being 80 for five [84 for five] in reply... it's obviously going to be tough to get back.''
Stokes praised Akash Deep, who finished with a match-haul of 10 wickets.
'I thought Akash exposed that crack last night [Saturday] and this morning [Sunday]. His ability to use and change his angles consistently and still be so accurate... He was zoning in on that crack. That one [delivery] Harry Brook got, you can't do anything about that. It is incredible skill to hone in on that zone while still changing angles on the crease.'
The 34-year-old all-rounder stated that England wouldn't be too downbeat after the defeat, with the only concern being the physical recovery before the Lord's Test that begins on Thursday. England, in fact, played with the same XI in both Leeds and Birmingham.
'I'm quite good, and the team is quite good, at staying level throughout these ups and downs,' Stokes said. 'That is so important in a series where there are going to be ebbs and flows because there are two very good teams.
'It would have been great to carry the momentum over from the first game but we have to wipe this one under the carpet quickly. We will have one or two days to get the bodies right, and all of sudden, we will be out there flipping the coin.'

Definitely, I feel it's a big problem. Because the ball is getting out of shape," said Pant. "What I've seen, the ball is getting de shaped too much. That has never happened like this to me. It's definitely irritating for the players because every ball plays differently because when it becomes softer, sometimes it's not doing too much. But as soon as it changes the ball, it's starting to do enough. "As a batsman, you've got a keep on adjusting to it. But at the same time, I feel it's not good for cricket anyway," said the explosive batter. India opted for two spinners and three pacers for the Edgbaston Test which they won by 336 runs. The Lord's pitch is expected to pose a tougher challenge for the batters. Pant did not confirm whether India would stick to the two spinner formula. "We will get to know by tomorrow whether it would be 3-1 or 3-2. When you see the wicket two days, sometimes it changes the colour, the moisture will become less also,' said the southpaw.

London [UK], July 9 (ANI): Ahead of the third Test against India at Lord's, England skipper Ben Stokes expressed excitement over pacer Jofra Archer's return, saying that the pacer must be proud of himself to bring himself back into the Test set-up after a gap of four years following injury scares. With the series one-piece each following India's 336-run hammering to England at Edgbaston, England made a massive change to their line-up, putting Archer on the playing eleven sheet for his first Test in four years. Archer, 30, returns to the Test setup for the first time since February 2021. Known for his express pace, Archer's inclusion is expected to bolster England's relatively inexperienced bowling attack, which has lacked bite in patches during the ongoing series. Recently, he made a red-ball return at first-class level for Sussex before joining up with the England squad for the second Test against India in Birmingham.
