Nurul Izzah Calls For Comprehensive Action To Combat Online Child Sexual Exploitation
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has called on the authorities to swiftly implement comprehensive measures to tackle the increasingly alarming crime of online child sexual exploitation.
In a Facebook post today, she stressed that all forms of cyber threats, particularly those targeting children, must be addressed firmly and without delay.
Her call came in response to the shocking discovery of a Facebook group dubbed 'Group Budak2 Sekolah Rendah', which allegedly shares sexually explicit content involving primary schoolchildren and has over 12,000 members.
'It is understood that several existing legal provisions can be used to prosecute perpetrators of online sexual crimes against this group, and the move is very much welcomed.
'However, there are still many gaps that need to be addressed, weaknesses that should be improved, and follow-up actions that must be implemented immediately to protect those most vulnerable to this threat,' she said in the post.
Nurul Izzah said perpetrators of sexual crimes were becoming increasingly sophisticated, including by using technology and the dark web to cover their tracks.
In this regard, she proposed that a structured, firm and comprehensive effort be initiated by government agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).
She also urged the Ministry of Communications and MCMC to present a clear, transparent and effective monitoring mechanism to assess the level of digital protection for children.
In addition, she called on KPWKM and PDRM to release public reports on both current and previous cases related to online sexual crimes in the interest of transparency and full accountability to the people.

Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said MCMC had flagged 1,188,528 pieces of harmful content across social media platforms as of June 24. KUALA LUMPUR : Telegram failed to comply with many of the requests made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to remove harmful content on the platform, says communications minister Fahmi Fadzil. Among all social media platforms, he said, Telegram has the lowest rate of compliance – less than 50% – to MCMC's requests to remove content. 'I have ordered MCMC to call Telegram for a meeting next week to discuss the issue,' he told reporters following an event at Pantai Dalam this morning. On June 19, MCMC filed a civil suit against Telegram and two of its channels for allegedly spreading harmful content that could erode trust in public institutions and threaten social order. MCMC said the two channels – 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' – were found to have published content that violated provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA). 'This marks the first such action taken against a social media platform provider, particularly since Telegram holds an application service provider (class) licence. 'The move follows Telegram's serious failure to address content that has been repeatedly reported to it, despite multiple negotiation and cooperation efforts by MCMC,' it said. Fahmi said that as of June 24, MCMC had flagged 1,188,528 pieces of harmful content across various social media platforms. However, only 173,642 of those requests were complied with. 'Of this number, 51% of the content removed were online gambling ads, while 24% were online scams. 'We will take strict action to ensure Malaysians do not become victims of cybercrime,' he said. He said MCMC can only make requests, but the platforms themselves have to do what is necessary to ensure the content cannot be accessed in the country.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The accusations levelled by former economy minister Rafizi Ramli at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are dragging PKR backward, says Berita Harian group editor Zulkifli Jalil. In a recent opinion piece, Zulkifli said that Rafizi, since resigning from the Cabinet, had seemed to be 'burning the mosquito net to kill the mosquito', using a Malay idiom to describe how the former minister's criticisms will harm the party's image. 'On Friday (June 20), Rafizi started his first podcast, 'Yang Berhenti Menteri', after his exit from the Cabinet. 'He is still making accusations. He likes to make his own conclusions and point fingers at the prime minister,' he said. Zulkifli criticised Rafizi for publicly going against PKR, pointing out that the party took 25 years to reach where it is today. 'Why burn the mosquito net to kill a mosquito? Rafizi's actions seem to be dragging PKR backward,' he said. Rafizi had resigned from the Cabinet after losing to Nurul Izzah Anwar in the race for the post of PKR deputy president. Zahid: Immediate aid for fire victims in Bagan Datuk
KUALA LUMPUR: Immediate assistance will be channelled to all victims of the fire that destroyed 23 houses and premises in Kampung Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datuk, early this morning. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had been informed of the incident, and officers from his office had immediately gone to the ground to meet all the affected families. "God willing, immediate assistance will be channelled, and each victim will be given the attention and support they deserve," he said in a Facebook post today. Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk member of parliament, expressed his deepest appreciation to all parties involved, especially the fire brigade, security personnel, and volunteers, for their efforts in the rescue and firefighting operations. "The swift action and spirit of togetherness shown are greatly appreciated. My prayers are with all the victims. May they be given strength and fortitude in facing this difficult ordeal," he said. In the 4.30am incident, a total of 23 premises were destroyed, involving 19 Class B and C houses, each estimated to have an area of 92.9 square metres, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a retail shop. However, no casualties were reported. The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team is still conducting further investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
