Israeli operations escalate in Gaza and Occupied West Bank

Israeli forces intensified artillery shelling and demolitions across the Gaza Strip on Friday, targeting areas in Khan Younis and eastern Gaza City, while also expanding raids and settler activity in the Occupied West Bank (OWB), according to Palestinian media reports.
The Palestinian Information Center reported that Israeli forces carried out large-scale demolitions of residential buildings in eastern Gaza and detonated three explosive-laden robots near Masoud Street in the Jabalia area, north of the Strip.
Separately, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted soldiers as saying that troops had intentionally fired on Palestinians near aid distribution points in Gaza.
Health officials at al-Shifa Medical Complex warned the hospital could shut down due to dwindling fuel supplies, exacerbating an already severe humanitarian situation.

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), 55,999 people have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, including 18,000 children and 12,400 women. The data also reports the deaths of more than 1,400 medical staff, 219 journalists, 203 UNRWA employees, and 112 civil defense workers. Over 11,000 individuals remain missing.
In the Occupied West Bank, tensions escalated in several areas. In Nablus, clashes broke out after dozens of Israeli settlers, escorted by military personnel, entered the eastern part of the city to perform religious rituals at Joseph's Tomb (Yousuf a.s) — a site considered sacred by Jews and located in an area under Palestinian Authority control.
Local sources said settlers damaged both public and private property along Jerusalem Street. They later gathered at the tomb under military protection and performed Talmudic rituals, prompting confrontations with residents.

In East Jerusalem, Israeli groups entered the Western Wall plaza to mark the start of the Hebrew month of Tammuz. In the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilya, Israeli forces reportedly turned a civilian home into a military outpost during a raid that continued into the morning.
According to PCBS, Israeli military operations in the Occupied West Bank have resulted in the deaths of at least 993 Palestinians, including 197 children, and injuries to nearly 7,000 others since the war began.

A separate Russian strike damaged a major power facility in Ukraine's southern Kherson province, triggering blackouts across several towns, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin. Russia's Western Group of Forces also announced that its troops had eliminated more than 210 Ukrainian soldiers in recent operations. The unit's press chief, Ivan Bigma, said air defense systems shot down 14 Ukrainian drones and destroyed multiple armored vehicles. Israel says senior Hamas commander killed in Gaza strike
Shafaq News – Gaza The Israeli military announced on Friday that it had killed Mohammad Issa Al-Issa, a senior commander in Hamas's military wing, during an airstrike in Gaza City. In a joint statement, the Israel Army and the Shin Bet described Al-Issa as one of Hamas's founding members and a central figure in the group's military leadership. He was said to have served as the head of combat and logistical support operations within the organization. Israeli authorities stated that Al-Issa had previously led Hamas's force-building programs in Gaza, headed the group's military training command, and was a member of its General Military Council. Al-Maliki: Iraq must strengthen its state and security institutions
Shafaq News – Baghdad Nouri al-Maliki, the head of the State of Law Coalition, emphasized the need for Iraq to become a strong state capable of defending its sovereignty, warning that regional conflicts could eventually impact Iraq. In a statement released by his media office to mark the Islamic month of Muharram and the commemoration of Ashura, al-Maliki said that true reform should go beyond political slogans, 'It must involve a strategic framework that tackles weaknesses in state institutions, promotes social justice, improves living standards, provides essential services, and creates employment opportunities. These are legitimate rights of the people—not a favor from anyone or a political bargaining chip.' Al-Maliki also stressed the importance of conducting an urgent review of Iraq's security and military institutions to ensure they are capable of maintaining political, social, and security stability, and of defending the country from external threats. Referring to escalating regional tensions, he pointed out, 'Today, as the region undergoes dangerous transformations, and with the Israeli wars rolling from Gaza to Lebanon, then Syria, and now threatening the Islamic Republic [of Iran], Iraq will not remain immune.' 'Iraq must be a strong state, equipped with all means to defend its sovereignty, people, and sacred sites.' Al-Maliki concluded by noting that while global powers possess all forms of strength, Iraq must aspire to reach a similar level—not for aggression, as in the era of the former Ba'athist regime—but to safeguard its sovereignty, rights, and the higher interests of the Iraqi people.
