Yeida injects funds to finish 12 JAL projects
At a meeting with homebuyers on Friday, Yeida CEO Arun Vir Singh discussed issues related to finalising a new developer and the process to address the grievances. 'Following the Allahabad High Court orders, Yeida has decided to infuse funds from its own pockets so that the work can start and homebuyers can get apartments without further delay. Our objective will be that the homebuyers get hassle-free justice and choose to either exit by taking refund or take possession of their flat. We have decided to form a portal so that the buyers get updates without visiting our office,' the Yeida CEO said.
For the purpose, Yeida has hired a consulting firm Currie & Brown to conduct a comprehensive ground survey and assess the current condition of these housing schemes. The firm is expected to submit its report within 15 days. 'Following this, a request for proposal (RFP) will be drafted to select a new developer under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model to complete the construction,' Singh said.
Hope floats for thousands of homebuyers as their houses are stuck in the stalled residential projects of Jaypee Associates Limited along the Yamuna Expressway.
'We booked a flat in this project in 2011 with the hope of getting possession in 2014. But we have been struggling since then to get justice. In 2020 Yeida cancelled the lease of the project land. Jaypee took the matter to the Allahabad high court, which has ordered Yeida to build the project. Now we hope to get possession as Yeida has promised and is ready to infuse funds. There are 8,000 homebuyers who are in distress due to the fault of Jaypee Associates Limited,' said Shamendra Singh, general secretary of Jaypee Sports City welfare society, who met the CEO on Friday.
Through the platform, officials said, affected homebuyers will be able to submit details such as project registration, payment history with the previous developer, and their preference to either continue with the project or opt out.
The authority has named Amarpal, who has been representing the buyers in the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) proceedings, as the authorised representative of the homebuyers on the high court-mandated committee.
'A sub-committee of various homebuyers' associations has been formed to protect buyer interests and coordinate with the authority, Amarpal will be the sole representative on the formal committee. OSD Shailendra Bhatia has been appointed as the nodal officer to address homebuyers' complaints and ensure smooth execution of the revival process,' Singh announced.
According to the Allahabad high court order, Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL) has lost the project as the order upheld Yeida's decision to cancel the lease. Now Yeida has the lease in its name, and the mandate to build the project as JAL has lost control over it.
To recall, the case goes back to 2008, when Yeida allotted about 1,000 hectares of land under the Special Development Zone (SDZ) to Jaypee International Sports, a subsidiary of JP Associates, to build a sports city. The project included the Buddh International Circuit, which hosted a MotoGP race in 2023, and several residential developments that were never completed.
'Due to non-payment of dues, Yeida cancelled the land allotment in February 2020. Earlier this year, the Allahabad High Court upheld this cancellation and directed the authority to take over and complete the housing projects,' Singh explained at the meeting.
The high-level oversight committee includes the principal secretary of Industrial Development, chairman of UP-Rera or a nominated representative, Yeida CEO Arun Vir Singh, a representative from the housing department, and the authorised homebuyer representative. The authority also plans to go ahead with developing international-standard sports infrastructure as originally planned.

ED attaches shares worth ₹127 crore in case linked to ex-Trinamool MP
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached shares worth ₹127.33 crore in two Panchkula-based immovable properties, Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital, allegedly beneficially owned by the son of former Trinamool Congress MP Kanwar Deep Singh. 'The attachment forms part of an ongoing money laundering investigation involving Alchemist Group, its directors, promoters, and associated entities, in relation to a large-scale fraud and misappropriation of public funds. The ED initiated the investigation based on a first information report initially registered by the Kolkata police, and subsequently by the Central Bureau of Investigation,' said the agency on Wednesday. The CBI case was against Alchemist Township Private Limited, Alchemist Infra Realty Private Limited, and promoter/ directors of the Alchemist Group, including Mr. Singh and others. 'Fraudulent schemes' 'The case pertains to an alleged large-scale criminal conspiracy to defraud investors by illegally raising funds through fraudulent collective investment schemes, offering unusually high returns, and/or making false promises of allotting plots, flats, and villas,' alleged the ED. According to the ED, through these schemes, Alchemist Holdings Limited and Alchemist Township India Limited 'illegally' collected about ₹1,848 crore from unsuspecting investors and subsequently misappropriated the funds for unauthorised purposes. The ED probe revealed that the allegedly misappropriated funds were systematically layered through complex financial transactions involving group entities of the Alchemist Group. The funds were used for 'the acquisition of shares and subsequent construction of Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital'. 'The transactions were deliberately structured to project these assets as legitimate, thereby disguising the proceeds of crime. The shares of Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital are held to the extent of 40.94% and 37.24% respectively, by Sorus Agritech Private Limited, a company beneficially owned by Karan Deep Singh, son of Kanwar Deep Singh,' it said.

India steps up global push for rare earth security amid China curbs
With China enforcing stringent controls on rare earth magnet exports, India has intensified its global outreach to safeguard the critical mineral supply chains, the government told Parliament on Wednesday. The government has initiated bilateral talks with Brazil and the Dominican Republic, and has also deepened engagement with multilateral platforms to build cooperation around rare earth elements and critical mineral security, Jitendra Singh, minister of state (independent charge) for science and technology, and the department of atomic energy, said. Apart from other portfolios, Singh also holds charge of the ministry of earth sciences. The union ministry of mines is engaged in these inter-governmental talks to sign memorandums of understanding, while the ministry of external affairs has tapped into relevant stakeholders to alleviate challenges arising from China's stranglehold over rare earth magnets, the minister's statement said. Rare earth magnets, essential to sectors like defence, electronics, clean mobility and renewable energy, have become a focal point of global strategic competition, with China holding a dominant position in their processing and trade. India has exported 18 tonnes of rare earth minerals over the last decade, the minister's written reply to Parliament said. It said India has approximately 7.23 million tonnes of rare earth oxides, which are processed to make magnets used in key strategic sectors such as defence, electronics, renewable energy, and clean mobility. "Additionally, Geological Survey of India (GSI) has augmented 482.6 Mt resources of REE (rare earth elements) ore at various cut-off grades in 34 exploration projects," the government said. It said the mines ministry has initiated talks with mineral-rich nations such as Australia, Argentina, Zambia, Peru, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Cote D'Ivoire as well as international organizations, such as the International Energy Agency (IEA). The ministry is also engaging with platforms such as the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP), the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), and the initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). India's engagement with multilateral platforms is largely dependent on the US. The MSP is a US-led alliance of 14 countries, including India, and was set up in 2022 to secure critical mineral supply chains by reducing dependence on any one particular country. The IPEF is a similar US-led alliance of 14 countries, focusing on collaborative policies on trade, supply chains, clean energy, and decarbonisation. The iCET is a bilateral agreement between India and the US for collaboration in technology, including artificial intelligence and semiconductors. "Critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, cobalt, titanium, rare earth elements, etc., are demand intensive due to their strategic uses in various sectors, viz., electric vehicles, renewable energy and defence," the government said. "In case of any further development in rare earth mineral exports to Japan, efforts shall be undertaken to mitigate the disruptions," the government statement said. India had suspended its rare earth mineral export to Japan after China halted export of magnets made of the same material, according to a Reuters report on 15 June, citing unnamed sources. Mint had reported on 7 July that Indian importers rushed to purchase permanent magnets, including rare earth magnets, at a premium from China, ahead of the export control order issued on 4 April.
