TRNSMT arrest total falls to 19 after 'exceptional' festival
Nine people were arrested and charged on the final day of the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow, taking the total over the three days to 19. Police said the alleged offences included sexual assault, assault, culpable and reckless behaviour, hate crime, possession of weapons and police the figure was significantly down on last year when 40 arrests were festival director Geoff Ellis praised fans and said this year's event, held in sweltering temperatures on Glasgow Green, had been one of the best so far. "While the weather has certainly been one of our star bookings, it's the fans who have truly made the weekend so special - a passionate, welcoming mix of ages, united in their love of live music and creating an atmosphere that has been nothing short of exceptional," he said. TRNSMT is Scotland's biggest music festival with a capacity of 50,000 on each of the three days. With Scotland basking in its hottest weather in two years, fans appeared to have heeded warnings about staying hydrated and protecting themselves from the sun."Glasgow Green has provided a perfect setting once again, with the natural shade under the trees offering fans the opportunity to take respite from the sunshine and enjoy the surroundings at their own pace," said Ellis. A ferris wheel was evacuated on Saturday evening after a generator caught fire but there were no injuries and the festival passed off without any major incidents. Singer Rick Witter from Indie veterans Shed Seven told the BBC he believes festival crowds are more polite now than in the past."You're less likely to just see hordes of drunken men, which you used to get it. But I quite like that," he said as the band prepared to perform at the King Tut's stage. Snow Patrol topped the bill as the festival closed on Sunday evening, after Biffy Clyro and 50 Cent headlined on the previous two days. Other acts included The Script, Fontaines DC, Jade, Gracie Adams and Irish rap band Kneepcap were originally due to perform but were axed from the bill after police raised concerns about Ellis, who is head of organisers DF Concerts, said the weekend had delivered some "outstanding moments". "Biffy Clyro gave a phenomenal headline performance, Fontaines DC drew a huge and energetic crowd, and Underworld brought an electrifying, club-like energy to the Smirnoff presents King Tut's Stage on Saturday night, following a fantastic set from Jake Bugg."It's also been a pleasure to showcase emerging talent: Nell Mescal, Alessi Rose, and Nieve Ella all gave impressive performances and are certainly names to watch for the future."I'm incredibly proud of what the entire team has accomplished this year, and I'd like to thank every artist and fan for contributing to such a memorable festival."TRNSMT was first held on Glasgow Green in 2017 after it was announced that the T in the Park festival, also organised by DF Concerts, was being discontinued. Since then it has been held annually except in 2020 when it was unable to go ahead due to the Covid pandemic.

What were the main findings of the Gregg Wallace investigation?
A report into Gregg Wallace's alleged inappropriate behaviour has been published. The TV host was sacked as a MasterChef presenter last week. Advertisement The inquiry was carried out by law firm Lewis Silkin for production company Banijay. Here are some of the key findings of the investigation: -Allegations substantiated against Wallace Of the 83 allegations against Gregg Wallace, 45 were substantiated — mostly involving inappropriate sexual language and humour. Of the substantiated claims, some related to other inappropriate language, being in a state of undress, and one case of unwanted physical contact. Advertisement – Most alleged incidents occurred between 2005 and 2018 The report found that 94 per cent of the allegations against Wallace (94%) related to behaviour which is said to have occurred between 2005 and 2018. Only one allegation was substantiated post-2018. – Wallace's behaviour made people uncomfortable While many described Wallace as energetic and humorous on set, the same traits sometimes led to comments or interactions that made people feel uncomfortable, especially in pressured or public filming environments. Wallace's comments were sometimes met with laughter and they were only occasionally challenged at the time, the report found. Advertisement – Autism diagnosis considered in context During the investigation, Wallace was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Investigators noted this as 'highly relevant', particularly in understanding his difficulty reading social cues and use of humour as a 'masking technique'. Wallace accepts that his diagnosis may help to explain some of his actions, but he does not wish to hide behind it, the report said. – Freelancers hesitated to complain Most people working on MasterChef are freelance staff, which is common in the television industry. Advertisement Several witnesses for the report spoke about their reluctance to complain because of the perceived instability of their roles. – Inadequate complaints and behavioural policies pre-2016 The investigation found that there was little or no formal training or clear escalation procedures in place, leading to underreporting and normalisation of inappropriate behaviour. – Complaints often not escalated While 19 people said they raised concerns about Wallace, the investigation found evidence of 11 formal or informal complaints about his behaviour on MasterChef between 2005 and 2024. Of the 11 identified complaints, eight were recognised as such at the time. The other three were treated as comments, so no action was taken. Advertisement Four of the eight recognised complaints were raised with both the production company and the BBC, two with the production company only, and two with the BBC alone. – BBC issued warning in 2017 Following a 2017 complaint, the BBC formally warned Wallace that his behaviour had to change. He responded by removing himself from social settings and seeking advice from colleagues to avoid further problems. – Other substantiated complaints The investigation also looked at 10 complaints made about other people on MasterChef. Two were substantiated, relating to inappropriate language, one for swearing and the other for racist language.

International manhunt for Rochdale grooming gang member, 50, who used girl as ‘sex slave' from 13 ‘before fleeing UK'
A VILE member of a grooming gang who "repeatedly raped" and "exploited" a vulnerable young girl is on the run and may have fled the UK. Kasir Bashir, 50, was a one of the seven men found guilty of sexually exploiting two white teenage girls in Rochdale between 2001 and 2006. 8 8 8 Bashir, who has been on the run from police for six months, may have fled Britain. He was a member of the Rochdale grooming gang who preyed on young girls with "deeply troubled home lives" and groomed them as "sex slaves" from the age of 13. The vile man worked as a market stall holder in Rochdale and was convicted alongside six others of the sexual exploitation of two girls in the town. In January, just before his trial, in a cowardly attempt to evade justice, Bashir fled. This prompted an urgent international manhunt for the fiend. He was found guilty last month alongside six others after the trial went ahead in his absence. The men, aged between 67 and 41, plied young girls with drugs, cigarettes and alcohol and expected them to have sex "whenever and wherever" the defendants wanted. The young girls were reportedly abused in filthy flats, on rancid mattresses, in cars, car parks, alleyways and disused warehouses. The court heard how vile Bashir repeatedly raped and abused a teenager in a dark, dingy flat in Oldham. Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was told the fiend was in his mid 20s when he exploited the young, vulnerable girl. Grooming gangs wrecked my daughter's life - and it's still going on now. Proceedings were derailed a week after Bashir fled when a member of the jury asked about the fiend's absence, which his defence argued showed prejudice. The trial was later restarted and went ahead with Bashir and six others found guilty of the heinous crimes. Following the trial Greater Manchester Police announced a manhunt for the vile man with it emerging that he may have fled Britain. The Manchester Evening News reported that, as part of his bail conditions, Bashir surrendered his passport which means if he left Britain he did so by illegitimate means. 8 8 8 If the vile man left the country through illegitimate means it will make it much harder for authorities to track him down. Bashir has been on a police " critical wanted" list since January but has still not been located. Reports suggest he had been complying with strict bail conditions up to the Thursday before his trial. These included surrendering his passport, living and sleeping at a given address and attending the Rochdale Police Station once a week. Three other members of the grooming gang, Mohammed Shahzad, Naheem Akram and Nisar Hussain were also out on bail when Bashir went missing. Police received intelligence that the trio were planning to leave the country and they were remanded in custody ahead of the trial. Bashir was convicted in absentia of multiple counts of rape and indecency with a child. The manhunt for the vile fiend continues as authorities desperately try to track him down and bring him to justice. Paul Waugh, the MP for Rochdale, said: "It is deeply alarming that this disgusting grooming gang member absconded on the eve of his trial. 'I have written to both the Ministry of Justice and GMP to ask exactly why a suspected child rapist like Bashir was not considered more of a flight risk or more of a danger to society. 'There are serious questions to answer about the assessment of his suitability for bail and why he was not remanded in custody. "The fact that he is at large will rightly anger many of my constituents.' Detective Chief Inspector Guy Laycock is the senior investigation officer on the case, he said: 'The men who committed this horrific abuse have now been found guilty of their abhorrent crimes. One defendant, Kasir Bashir cowardly avoided the whole trial and thought he could escape justice. 'This is in stark contrast to the survivors who gave brave and painful testimony over the four-month trial in front of the men that so badly abused them. We will do all we can to find Bashir and ensure justice is fully served for them. 'Time was no barrier to bringing these groomers to justice, and Bashir evading the trial, will not stop us ensuring he now faces the full consequences of his actions.' 8 8
