And the world No 733 certainly made a name for himself with a performance against reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz that was even better than the scoreline 6-1 6-4 6-4 suggested.
Even the first set was much closer than it might seem, as the San Diego-based student showed again how much he had learned on the college circuit in the USA.
Alcaraz was not at his best, just as in his first-round victory against Fabio Fognini.
But qualifier Tarvet, 21, made life so difficult for the Spaniard right for so long, with his combination of speed, athleticism, skill and sheer guts.

It was not until the second set that the first chants of 'Let's go, Ollie, let's go' and 'Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Oi, Oi, Oi' broke out on Centre Court.
Yet a player that most of the home fans would never have heard of until this week earned the love and respect of the British crowd
And the way he played suggested these will not be his only days in the sun.
From the beginning and for most of the match, Tarvet put Alcaraz under pressure.

He had three break points in the first and had multiple chances to take the Alcaraz serve in two more games in the first set. Yet he somehow lost it 6-1.

Alcaraz was erratic, flipping from the ridiculous to the sublime.
When the Spaniard produced the latter in the second game of the second set, Tarvet stared in disbelief.
But the Brit refocused and at last broke his opponent's serve.
The shock seemed to wake Alcaraz up and he hit back immediately. The pair traded games and some superb rallies, with Tarvet chasing down every ball and finding some winners of his own.

Until the No 2 seed made his move, winning the ninth game and then serving it out with an ace.
Still Tarvet would not lie down and he had the crowd on their feet again when he broke back to level the third set at 3-3.
Alcaraz was having none of it, though, once more regaining the advantage. 'No, no!' yelled Tarvet in the eighth game when he buried a makeable shot in the net.
The Brit kept Alcaraz honest, forcing the reigning champion to serve it out.

The match will have felt longer than two hours and 16 minutes to the Spaniard.
Whatever happens next, Tarvet has created memories for life.

Paul O'Connell impressed by Ireland 'intent' in win over Georgia
Paul O'Connell praised the efforts of his makeshift Ireland team after they registered an impressive 34-5 victory over Georgia in Tbilisi. Without head coach Andy Farrell and a plethora of players due to British and Irish Lions commitments, interim boss O'Connell watched his youthful side show their strength in depth with an assured display on a rain-soaked pitch. Debutant Tommy O'Brien raced over twice inside the opening exchanges before stand-in captain Craig Casey dotted down early in the second period and Nick Timoney wrapped up the scoring late on. "Very important game," O'Connell said during his on-pitch interview. "A lot of players away with the Lions and we've got a load of guys who are just dying for an opportunity. "And you wonder how they will take that opportunity, particularly as some of them hadn't played games in a little while, so I'm very happy with how they went about their business. "They had a load of intent with what they did and they were really accurate with that intent." Casey added: "Yeah obviously very happy. A bit wetter than we expected during the week. We had to adapt our game a bit and I thought we managed the game really well. "Our forwards were top-class, so we have to owe it to them. The feeling in the group is awesome, it's a great start to the summer tour. "There are a few lads making their first caps and we wanted to make it special for them and their families. Thankfully we did that."

Van den Berg strikes twice as South Africa beat Italy
SCRUM-HALF MORNE van den Berg scored two tries as Rugby World Cup holders South Africa beat Italy 42-24 in Pretoria in the first of two Tests. Winning his third cap, the 27-year-old half-back from the Johannesburg-based Lions also impressed with his tactical kicking and won the player of the match award. It was a game of two halves with the Springboks using their scrum power to score four tries and build a 28-3 lead by half-time in front of a near-capacity crowd at the 52,000-capacity Loftus Versfeld. Two of those tries came when Italy were temporarily reduced to 14 men after No 8 Lorenzo Cannone was sin-binned by Scottish referee Hollie Davidson. 'We knew it would be tough because Italy are an extremely passionate side. We certainly did not write them off and they showed why tonight,' South Africa captain and centre Jesse Kriel said. Advertisement 'There is lots for us to work on. In the first half we started strong, but in the second half they defended like their life depended on it. So it was very tough, but it always is at Test level. 'We let ourselves down a bit at the breakdown. They defended very well, but we wanted quick ball to attack with. They frustrated us and we have a lot of work to do there.' Italy captain and lock Niccolo Cannone said: 'We are very happy with our performance. It was a very tough, physical game. But we are happy, although there are some details to improve for next weekend. 'We know the guys we were playing against because we play them a lot in the United Rugby Championship. But this is another type of game and they are different when they wear that (Springbok) jersey.' Victory continued the 100% record of South Africa when hosting Italy, but it was the second smallest winning margin in eight Tests since 1999. The other Springbok try scorers were Kriel, winger Kurt-Lee Arendse, replacement prop Vincent Koch and flanker Marco van Staden. It was a special moment for tighthead Koch when he barged over as he notched his first try for South Africa while winning his 62nd cap. South Africa's Vincent Tshituka. Alamy Stock Photo Alamy Stock Photo The outstanding try came from Arendse, who raced through the Italian defence from midfield to score after impressive Test debutant Vincent Tshituka won a lineout. Veteran out-half Handre Pollard slotted all six conversions, raising his total for the Springboks to 784 points in 81 Tests. Flanker Manuel Zuliani, replacement hooker Pablo Dimcheff on debut and Niccolo Cannone scored tries for the Azzurri. Out-half Giacomo Da Re kicked three conversions and a penalty for Italy, whose starting line-up included only five of the team beaten by Ireland in their last 2025 Six Nations Championship match. When Da Re converted the Cannone try with 11 minutes remaining, there were only 11 points between the teams, raising the possibility of a stunning victory for the visitors. But the Springboks put the outcome beyond doubt on 74 minutes when Van Staden powered his way over the line and Pollard maintained his perfect record from the kicking tee. The second Test is scheduled for Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in eastern coastal city Gqeberha next Saturday. – © AFP 2025

Novak Djokovic joins Roger Federer in exclusive Wimbledon men's club
Novak Djokovic brought up a century of Wimbledon wins as he moved smoothly into the fourth round. The 38-year-old eased past fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3 6-0 6-4 on Centre Court at the All England Club. Djokovic is now just five wins behind Wimbledon's only other male centurion, his great rival Roger Federer on 105 match victories. 'Very historic, it sounds very nice,' he said after Saturday's win. 'Tennis made me who I am, it has given me incredible things in life so I try not to take anything for granted, especially at my age and trying to compete with the younger players. READ MORE 'Wimbledon is a favourite tournament, not just for myself but for most players. Any history I make at my favourite tournament, I'm blessed.' Apart from being broken when he served for the match, it was a pretty routine display for the seven-time champion, although one spectacular diving backhand volleyed winner after a lung-busting rally will make the highlights reel. 'It was kind of like an ecstasy, to be honest, in that moment,' added Djokovic. 'Yeah, I was super, super happy. It came at a really important moment as well. I think 4-3, deuce, long point. 'We both were running around each other, around the whole court. Then just that diving backhand volley down-the-line passing shot. Can't wait to see the highlights.' That shot thrilled the Saturday SW19 crowd and a host of sports glitterati in the Royal Box including Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Steve Redgrave and Lord Botham. The Centre Court punters could be forgiven for feeling a little short-changed, however, after three one-sided contests. Certainly the 11pm curfew was never in danger after Jannik Sinner dropped just five games against Pedro Martinez and Iga Świątek beat Danielle Collins in straight sets, before Djokovic disposed of his 25-year-old countryman in an hour and 47 minutes. Djokovic, bidding for a record 25th grand slam title, will face Australian 11th seed Alex De Minaur in his 17th appearance in the last 16.
