Economist SP Sharma launches his book 'India@2047,' envisions India as global economic leader
New Delhi [India], May 7 (ANI): Renowned economist Dr SP Sharma on Wednesday launched his new book, 'India@2047: Leading the Global Economic Order,' at an event in New Delhi that brought together distinguished voices from the fields of policy, academia, and economics.
The book presents a compelling roadmap for India's transformation into a global economic superpower by 2047-- coinciding with the centenary of India's independence.
It meticulously examines India's economic landscape, showcasing its remarkable achievements, identifying challenges and outlining crucial reforms needed to advance sustainable and inclusive growth.
The author, Dr SP Sharma described India@2047 as a comprehensive analysis of India's economic evolution.
'The book traces India's journey from the post-independence era and the pivotal 1991 economic reforms to today's digital and startup-driven economy,' he said.
'It focuses on seven key areas--structural reforms, foreign trade, global alliances, economic resilience, global positioning, and emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and startups. India's economic trajectory in the past seven years has been particularly remarkable,' he added.
Prof RM Joshi praised the book for its 'empirical and analytical depth,' calling it a 'holistic effort' that offers a clear vision of India's role in the global economic order by 2047.
'It highlights our shift from a low-income economy to a $4 trillion economy today, with some estimates projecting a $35-40 trillion economy by 2047,' he noted.
Prof Niti Bhasin of the Delhi School of Economics emphasized the book's policy relevance, citing initiatives like Make in India, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and Atmanirbhar Bharat as key drivers of progress.
She also pointed to India's growing export performance and recent trade agreements as crucial tools for boosting foreign investment. 'Beyond economics, India's rise as a global soft power is also significant,' she added.
The book further explores sectoral growth in agriculture, technology, health, education, and infrastructure, while underscoring the need for inclusive and sustainable development to realize the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The launch event featured a dynamic panel discussion with notable participants including Krishana Agarwal, National Spokesperson of the BJP; Prof RM Joshi, Vice Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade; Dr Ajay Dua, Former Secretary, Ministry of Commerce; Prof Niti Bhasin of the University of Delhi; Col Saurabh Sanyal; and AP Vicky Shaw, among others. The Jan Suraaj Party, launched by Prashant Kishor for system change in Bihar, received fresh momentum on Monday, with popular YouTuber Manish Kashyap formally joining the party. Kashyap, known for raising public issues through social media, described his decision as a step toward 'becoming the answer' for real change in Bihar. Welcoming Kashyap in Patna, Jan Suraaj architect Prashant Kishor said, 'Manish Kashyap is not just a leader or YouTuber; he wants to play his role in bringing system change in Bihar. He has always stood with those who have been wronged in the state. His aim is to contribute to society, not to exploit it. His joining indicates that the talk of honesty in politics and system change is now having an impact on the ground.' Kashyap said, 'To bring real change in Bihar, it is not enough to only ask questions; one must become the answer. With this thought, I am joining Jan Suraaj.' He added, 'Prashant Kishor has taken the initiative to look at society beyond the prism of caste and religion and has spread the message of system change. Jan Suraaj aims to free Bihar from the jungle raj of Lalu-Nitish. For us, politics is not just about contesting elections; it is about transformation. Manish Kashyap's identity was created by his talent, not by the BJP,' Kishor said while congratulating Kashyap on joining Jan Suraaj.

Gold prices fall over Rs 400, silver down Rs 1,000 amid US tariff uncertainties
Gold rates fell over Rs 400 on Monday amid looming uncertainty over the US reciprocal tariffs, as silver prices also took a hit of over Rs 1,000. The 24-carat gold prices closed at Rs 96,596, down Rs 425 against the previous day's closing price of Rs 97,021, the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) latest data showed. As per the data, silver was priced at Rs 106,531 per kg, down Rs 1,049 as compared to Rs 107,580, the last day's price. Gold has come down slightly after the ceasefire announcements as well as stronger than expected US data in recent days. 'However, given that gold buying by central banks is running at above 1,000 tonnes per annum, and unlikely to abate in the next few months, and that inflation is still running higher than what the Fed expects," said Sandip Raichura, CEO of Retail Broking and Distribution and Director, PL Capital. Meanwhile, the future contract expiring on August 5 fell Rs 487 or 0.5 per cent to 96,503.0 per 10 grams against the previous day's closing price of Rs 96,990 on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). At the same time, Comex gold fell 0.93 per cent or $31.10 to $3,311.80 per ounce. "Gold prices stayed range bound to weak near Rs 96,650, down about Rs 350, as Comex gold slipped to $3,310 amid cautious sentiment," said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst-Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities. The expiry of the US trade tariff extension timeline keeps uncertainty around global trade deals in focus. Participants expect a possible extension, which is keeping gold under slight pressure, said analysts. Meanwhile, due to investor hesitancy over the interim India-US trade agreement, the Indian stock market closed flat on Monday. The Sensex ended the day at 83,409.68, up just 9.61 points, or 0.01 per cent. The Nifty ended the day unchanged at 25,461.30, up 0.30 points.
