Gardening expert shares 5 tips for using your outdoor space
Light can be especially tricky in confined outdoor spaces, and they can quickly feel cluttered. To help, Michael Griffiths, a gardening expert working with Gumtree, has shared a few tips to make the most of your garden this summer. 5 tips to make the most of your outdoor space this summer 1. Think Vertical, Not Just Horizontal If you're short on outdoor space or generally want to make the most of the area you have, don't just think ground level. Michael says: "Walls, fences, sheds, even balcony railings are all fair game. Add a trellis for climbers, hang up some wall-mounted pots for herbs or strawberries, or stack up a few shelves for trailing plants. "Got an awkward corner or a narrow ledge? Pop in a pot and let something spill over the edge. Even the tiniest spot can be packed with life if you get a bit creative. "Growing upwards not only saves space, it makes the garden feel taller, fuller and way more interesting." 2. Use Multi-Tasking Plants Plants are a key element of any garden, so to make the most of them, it's useful to plant ones that do more than one job. Michael explains: "Herbs like rosemary, thyme and oregano are perfect: they look good, smell amazing, and you can chuck them in your cooking too. "Small trees like bay or olive add a bit of height and structure without taking over the whole space, plus they bring that lovely Mediterranean vibe." 3. Clever Storage = More Space In a busy garden, smart storage makes a massive difference, such as utilising benches with hidden compartments. In lieu of a shed, make use of wall hooks, shelves or even an old cupboard fixed to the fence to keep tools off the floor and easy to grab. Michael adds: "There is also absolutely no harm in clearing the clutter of any unused items you may have in your garden to help create space. "But, before you look to the bin, consider listing any unwanted items on a second-hand marketplace such as Gumtree! It can be a great way to make some extra cash to reinvest in your garden." 4. Go Big with Pots When utilising pots, go for bigger ones as they'll have more impact than lots of small ones scattered about. Michael explains: "Group them in odd numbers (like threes or fives) for that proper designer feel, and mix up the heights to add a bit of depth without it all feeling crammed. It's a simple way to make your space look more intentional." Recommended reading: 5. Light and Colour Tricks A few tricks can make a smaller garden feel a bit bigger and brighter, as Michael explains. He says: "Stick a mirror on a fence or wall and it'll bounce light around, giving the illusion of more space (plus it just looks cool). "Painting your fences or containers in pale or warm tones helps reflect the light too, especially in shady corners that can feel a bit gloomy. "And don't forget lighting. Fairy lights, solar lanterns or string lights along fences instantly make the garden feel cosy and inviting after dark, like you've gained a bonus room for evening chill-outs or drinks with mates."

'I visited Rafael Nadal's hotel and couldn't believe what it was like'
Active wellbeing is a growing travel trend and there's no better place to get involved than at lifestyle resort Zel Punta Cana, which was recently opened in Dominican Republic. Part of Meliá Hotels and Resorts and created in collaboration with tennis legend Rafael Nadal, the luxurious Caribbean resort offers an idyllic escape with excellent facilities – including a top class tennis centre, naturally. With outdoor pools, a fitness centre and a peaceful spa, we found it to be a real treat for both mind and body. After a warm welcome on arrival, Zel quickly felt like our home away from home – an ethos the resort really prides itself on. Every corner has been meticulously designed to create a serene setting, from the indoor-outdoor dining concept to the plants in orange stone pots and the rattan lamp shades. Our Zel Suite was beautifully decorated, with wooden beams, a palette of orange, cream and blue, warm lighting and abstract woven wall art. The room was airy and bright, with a walk-in wardrobe, a sprawling bathroom with double sinks, a spacious living area and a chic kitchenette. Our private balcony had a seating area as well as a bathtub tucked away in one corner. And we didn't have to worry about losing our room keys as our handy wooden bracelets unlocked our suite. We enjoyed breakfast in the Mediterranean style buffet restaurant Parda, even sipping juice from coconuts cut straight from the palm trees. Zel's Mexican-Greek fusion restaurant Tacorini quickly became our favourite lunch spot, where we tucked into crispy fish tacos, Greek salads and passion fruit mojitos next to the pool. At Neguri, the beach club, guests eat lunch with their toes in the sand. And in the evenings, we indulged in Japanese-inspired dishes at Nokyo. It's fun to watch the chef's culinary acrobatics and the sushi platter and seafood pad Thai were standouts. Head to Silvestre for fine wines with a delicious cheese and cured meat board. With ambient lighting and an elegant interior, the setting is idyllic. A stay at Zel wouldn't be complete without hitting some balls at the tennis centre, and we got a sneak peek before it opens this September. With five tennis courts, four padel courts and six pickleball courts, we served, sliced and smashed our way round the court surrounded by palm trees. We tried some of the other activities on offer and a real highlight was experiencing the thrill of gliding across the waves on a Hobie Cat catamaran. We also laughed our way through a 'pound class' in which we tapped, beat and waved drum sticksaround to music. We tried aerial yoga and paddle yoga, enjoyed a cycling tour through the sprawling resort and braved ice baths to rejuvenate both our body and mind. In between, there was plenty of time to lounge around by the outdoor swimming pools and we hopped in the resort's buggy to nearby Bávaro beach, where we enjoyed the clear waters and sugar-white sand. We also indulged in a massage at AUA spa, so our stay was a perfect balance of sport and relaxation. Rates at Zel Punta Cana start from £299 per night on an all-inclusive basis – see to book. British Airways offers direct return flights from London Gatwick to Punta Cana from around £607.

EXCLUSIVE Dakota Johnson has flirty exchange with mystery man on Ibiza yacht after Chris Martin split
Dakota Johnson put on a flirty exchange with a mystery man as she spent time on a star-studded yacht in Ibiza this week. The Materialists actress, 35 - who has been enjoying her new single life following her split from Chris Martin - joined other celebrities on the spacious boat, including BFF Kate Hudson and Tom Brady. Just one month earlier, it was reported that Johnson and the Coldplay frontman had officially separated after eight years together. At one point during the relaxing day, the beauty was seen resting under a shady area on the yacht as she conversed with another guest. The mystery man - who went shirtless and wrapped a towel around his waist - approached the star as she flashed a small smile on her face. Dakota was then seen placing her hand on his muscular bicep before he took a seat next to the Hollywood actress. She was also seen leaning on the handsome brunette while enjoying a sun-filled day The pair were later spotted spending time at another side of the yacht as the star made her way up a set of stairs. He donned a black life vest as they held a conversation while also looking out at the scenic views. Johnson wowed wearing a skimpy black bikini top as well as matching drawstring bottoms. A black cap was placed on top of her brunette locks that flowed down past her shoulders in natural waves. Just a few days earlier on Wednesday, the star was also spotted mingling with the same male friend during her getaway to Ibiza, Spain. The pair strolled side-by-side as Dakota showcased her toned figure in a white bikini top as well as a floral skirt. She completed the ensemble by adding a hat on top of her head and slipped into a pair of black flats, while the mystery man kept it casual in a white shirt as well as black shorts. Last month in June, it was reported that the Hollywood actress and Coldplay frontman had officially called it quits after eight years of dating. Just a few days earlier on Wednesday, the star was also spotted mingling with the same male friend during her getaway to Ibiza, Spain The pair were later spotted spending time at another side of the yacht as the star made her way up a set of stairs A source told at the time: 'Their relationship has been over for a long time, they just haven't been able to figure out to make it official. 'Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much.' The insider continued, 'Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder. 'But then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore.' They added that Johnson 'is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them.' Martin is dad to Apple, 21, and Moses, 19, whom he shares with ex-wife and fellow actress Gwyneth Paltrow. While the source noted that the exes could potentially rekindle their romance, they said 'right now, being separated will do wonders if they were to have any type of future together.' However, a separate insider recently told that Dakota's mom Melanie Griffith believes the breakup was a 'huge mistake.' 'Melanie is desperately working behind the scenes to save Dakota's strained relationship with Chris. 'She's convinced that they are meant to be together and isn't giving up on them. She thinks her daughter is making a huge mistake and needs to meet Chris halfway. Melanie has always felt a kinship with Chris, he's like a son to her.' During a Coldplay performance last month in Las Vegas, Chris sparked speculation that both he and Johnson could rekindle their romance. In a clip shared by DeuxMoi at the time, Martin gave a shoutout to his fans and expressed, 'Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other. Don't forget to see Materialists! We love you!' The singer was referencing to the actress's latest movie which hit theaters in June - and also starred Pedro Pascal and Chris Martin. The person who had submitted the clip wrote, 'THEYRE NOT BROKEN UP,' but one fan pointed out, 'I can totally seeing him supporting her even after the break up.' During her latest yacht day, Dakota joined other A-list celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Tom Brady and Naomi Campbell in celebration of Saudi Arabian producer Mohammed Al Turki's birthday. Dakota received a hug from Hudson who stood directly behind her as the pair soaked up the summer sun, while the retired NFL quarterback lounged nearby. Kate wowed in a vibrant blue bikini and completed her look with a black cap and fashionable shades. Brady was another celebrity on board the lavish yacht in Ibiza over the weekend - fresh off his trip to Venice to attend the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. The sports star showed off her sculpted physique as he went shirtless under the bright sun and sported a pair of black swim trunks. And Campbell brought along her little one while opting for a white bikini top as well as a pair of patterned bottoms and a sheer white coverup.
