Long-awaited Kapit rural road project included in 13MP
KAPIT (Aug 1): Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for including the construction and upgrading of 2,800km of rural roads nationwide under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which would include those in the former's constituency of Kapit.
Specifically, the Kapit MP mentioned the long-awaited road project covering Nanga Serau in Song to Nanga Seranau in Kapit.
'This would be part of the rural road development nationwide throughout the 13MP period (2026 to 2030).
'This is very good news for hundreds of longhouse families on the West Bank of Rejang River, who are still relying on river transport, which has been really hard after the express boat service covering Sibu-Kapit sector was discontinued in November 2021.
'As the member of Parliament for Kapit, I fully understand the pain and hardships of my constituents.
'Therefore, this announcement not only brings new hope, but also injects enthusiasm in me to continue fighting for more progress and fair access for the rural areas of Sarawak.
'We thank the Unity Government and the Prime Minister for the concern expressed through this announcement.
'This is proof that the voices of the rural people continue to be given attention in the national development agenda,' said Nanta.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan hailed the 13MP Nanga Serau-Nanga Seranau road project as 'a gift to so many rural residents'.
'This road project is expected to be a catalyst for change, connecting the rural community with the local economic centre; thus opening the way to new job and business opportunities that have been hindered due to infrastructure constraints,' he added. 13MP alexander nanta linggi Kapit rural road

Nanta said that the letter was fake and was never sent out by the ministry or by him as the minister. 'The ministry never issued any official invitation for such a gratuity payment ceremony. As such, I advise the public not to be deceived by such documents, which clearly contain elements of fraud and impersonation,' he said. He said the ministry had taken note of the matter and is working together with the authorities to conduct further investigation. Those who have any doubts about the authenticity of documents or communications allegedly from the ministry are advised to contact the ministry's official channels via its website at or the ministry's official hotline. Opposition proposes Malaysia Plan bipartisan committee
THE Opposition has proposed the formation of a bipartisan committee to review the targets that were not met in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin ( pic ) said the committee, which would include representatives from the government and the Opposition, will also explore more effective implementation strategies for the success of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) and beyond. 'In the spirit of transparency and accountability, Tambun (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the Cabinet must 'walk the talk' and explain to the public what happened with the unachieved targets,' he said, adding that a special cross-party committee should be established to scrutinise the gaps in 12MP's achievements and to explore more effective implementation measures for the future. 'There is nothing wrong with the Prime Minister taking a step back to reflect, assess the achievements of 12MP, and ensure we all remain grounded before new figures are presented in the 13MP. 'The 13MP is a national effort to shape the future of the country. It is a five-year development plan meant for all Malaysians. 'Whoever governs in Putrajaya must accept the reality that this plan is not the exclusive domain of any single political party; it belongs to all of us,' said Hamzah, who is the Larut MP, during the debate on the 13MP in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. He also said the government needs to clarify all matters compromised in the reciprocal tariff negotiations with the United States. The 13MP targets GDP growth of between 4.5% and 5.5%, the creation of 1.2 million new jobs, and a gross national income per capita of RM77,200, according to official government projections. However, concerns remain over the plan's viability, with questions raised about the government's fiscal capacity to fund the RM611bil allocation without placing additional strain on the public. He also questioned whether there is sufficient political will to implement meaningful institutional reforms, the effectiveness of proposed strategies in delivering social justice, and whether the plan's indicators and targets are robust enough to guide Malaysia's progress over the next five years. Hamzah also congratulated and commended the Prime Minister for his key role in arranging a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He said the coalition welcomed any Malaysian involvement in efforts to strengthen regional stability. 'Whatever role played by the Prime Minister, even if described by some as simply that of a host, it remains a contribution that will be recorded in history. 'What's important is that Malaysia continues to be respected as a sovereign nation and is regarded as a credible balancing power in the region,' he said. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional and immediate ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Anwar.

Use annual reports to spur implementation of 13MP
THE recently unveiled 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) marks a significant and welcomed evolution in our national development planning. A comprehensive plan designed to accelerate Malaysia's development towards an advanced, fair and globally respected country, it presents three implementation innovations that sets it apart from its predecessors. First, it elevates the importance of improving government efficiency. In a clear departure from the 12MP, where it was one of 13 chapters, government efficiency is now one of the four main pillars of the 13MP.
