Bottoms up? Beach beer bottle's cheeky shape has gays doing a double-take

Yahoo6 days ago
Kenji Abe set out to solve a summertime nuisance, not launch a thousand double-takes. But here we are.
The Tokyo-based designer's latest concept reimagines a beer bottle for seaside drinkers who have nothing more flat than a towel to use as a table. Instead of a standard base, Abe sculpted the glass into a smooth, tapered dome that can be plunged straight into the sand and stand upright on its own.
It also gives serious butt-plug energy.
'Drinking beer while gazing at the sea is special,' the project description reads. 'However, bringing a table to the sandy beach is challenging, and it is difficult to find a flat surface to place your bottle of beer. Hence, the artist conceived this work, evoking the desire to stick a glass bottle of beer into the sand.' The goal, Abe adds, is to let users "fully enjoy the sea, sandy beach, and blue sky' without babysitting their brew.
The bottle debuted quietly at the 2023 'Design for Ocean Environments' conference in Roppongi, then disappeared into design-blog obscurity until the engineering account @engineers_feed posted it to X over the weekend.

One viral tweet later, the internet collectively decided the beachy upgrade looks less like beach-friendly ware and more like something you'd find in an adults-only nightstand. ER jokes, butt-plug puns, and 'beer for bottoms' punch lines followed in predictable (but hilarious) waves.

'Japanese design firm Kenji Abe has designed a ass plug,' wrote one fan, while the Hot Takes Nobody Asked For account noted that 'some of you are thinking of using this [glass bottle] for other purposes and we are strongly advising you not to do it. You will regret it.'

Others, like Hood Action News, found the humor of it all, saying Kenji Abe has 'designed a glass beer bottle that you can stick into your butt on the sand on the beach.'

Others quipped, 'Why not make it vibrate too so it can dig itself down into the sand?'

While others wondered how long it would be before an X-ray was released with this lodged into someone.

For now, the rounded-base bottle remains a one-off prototype, and that's probably for the best. Until someone figures out how to make glass both sand-friendly and anatomy-proof, you might want to keep your lager in a cooler and your toys in a different tote.

Giorgio Armani Marks His Brand's 50th Year With Multiple Celebrations

Designer Giorgio Armani (Photo by Barbara White Sloan/WWD/Penske Media via Getty Images) It seems 1975 was a good year for design. Several brands, mainly Italian, are celebrating 50th anniversaries in 2025. To wit, Roberto Cavalli, Santoni, John Hardy, and the "King of Fashion" himself, Giorgio Armani, are all marking significant milestones this year. When the Northern Italian-born designer founded his namesake label at 41, he was already well-regarded in the industry, having established himself as a menswear designer at Cerrutti 1881, a freelance fashion designer for brands Allegri, Bagutta, Gibò, and Montedoro, among others, and his early career included roles in sales and as a window dresser at La Rinascente. With the support of friend Sergio Galeotti, he founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in Milan on July 24th, 1975. Now at 91, Mr. Armani is still at the helm of his namesake brand with plans to retire in the next year or so. To celebrate the anniversary, the brand has announced an exhibit and pop-up to mark the occasion. The Giorgio Armani Pop-up at the Sunset Beach Hotel in Shelter island. In Milan, the designer will launch the Armani/Archivio project on Saturday, August 30th, during the Venice Film Festival. Armani/Archivo is an interactive digital platform that showcases content curated from a comprehensive cataloging of the Giorgio Armani collections, aiming to preserve the brand's pioneering legacy while serving as a bridge between past and future. In the coming months, the platform will be housed in a physical site just outside of Milan. Additionally, the brand is planning celebrations during the upcoming Milan Fashion Week, also known as MFW, centered on the debut of its Spring 2026 women's collections. On Wednesday, September 24th, Giorgio Armani will open a curated showcase to the public at the Pinacoteca di Brera gallery. It's a first for the 'Brera Art Gallery, the main public gallery regarded as having one of the foremost collections of Italian paintings dating from the 13th to the 20th centuries. It is also the first time they have hosted an exhibition of fashion, featuring over 150 archival Giorgio Armani looks spanning the brand's five decades. Rounding out the week will be the closing show of MFW in the historic Courtyard of Honour at Palazzo Brera, featuring the Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2026 Women's Collection alongside select menswear looks from the collection presented in June. Actress Mamie Gummer attends the Giorgio Armani But the brand is busy with some other activations this summer on this side of the Atlantic before the big 50thfete. Coinciding with the same anniversary date, the brand unveiled its first Giorgio Armani Mare pop-up Stateside, featuring the 2025 collection. After launching several iterations in some of the world's most coveted summer destinations such as Porto Cervo, Capri, and Cannes, the coastal lifestyle collection—which includes swimwear, resort wear, linen tailoring, beachside ready accessories, towels, and more—will be the focus of a pop-up at Sunset Beach on Shelter Island. To toast the 10-day ephemeral boutique and the summer collection inspired by easy Amalfi Coast living, the brand hosted a sunset cocktail event that brought the Mediterranean lifestyle to the Hamptons. The popular hotel—located on the island affectionately referred to as the "Island of Peace" and situated between Long Island's North and South Forks—has transformed its façade, game room, and beachfront to evoke a beachfront vis-à-vis tropical palms in shades of grey and turquoise with contrasting warm wooden tones of flooring. Inside the Giorgio Armani pop up on Shelter Island. Guests included Linda Fargo, Mamie Gummer, André Balazs, Tracy Margulies, Kristina O'Neill, Leandra Medine Cohen, Mei Kwok, Pamela Tick, and Dora Fung of 10 Magazine US, who shared activities such as dog-friendly beach time, backgammon, al fresco dining, and dancing as part of the opening event celebrations on her Instagram feed.

Don't expect to blast your way through Ghost of Yotei: "Blades are the heart of the fantasy"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Ghost of Yotei introduces the greatest Samurai technique of all time – just shooting a guy – but the developers have warned that Atsu is no Texas Red, and that blades are still king. Ghost of Yotei takes place hundreds of years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, and as a result, technology has advanced. During the recent Ghost of Yotei dedicated State of Play, footage revealed Atsu can start blasting, as she has access to firearms in the game. However, the developers have assured us that Yotei isn't about to become a shooting game, and good old fashioned sword swinging is still its name. GamesRadar+ features editor Andrew Brown spoke to Ghost of Yotei's creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell and asked specifically about the place of guns in the game. Fox dubbed firearms "not incredibly efficient" in line with how they were back in 1603. He elaborated, "Firearms have a role, and they are incredibly deadly when used at the right time," adding, "but it's not like Gun Kata, where the firearm is the melee weapon. Blades are the heart of the fantasy." However, Atsu isn't completely out of luck when it comes to fighting at range, as she has access to new melee weapons that help with that – namely a spear and a flail that can dispatch enemies in no time. And of course, she'll still have access to bows, which are probably the ideal ranged weapon anyway if you're going to take a stealthy approach – and you won't have to deal with Jin's annoying uncle berating you for it either! Although, in my eyes, nothing beats strolling into a camp and announcing to the whole population that you're here for a scrap. Ghost of Yotei "isn't going to rush you through anything" and "focuses on player freedom more than any game Sucker Punch has ever made," with clues and activities for all play styles.
