The 10 greatest graduates from Q School as latest hopefuls attend class
Amateur players battle it out in stressful, intense tournaments with the winners booking a spot on the World Snooker Tour for the next two seasons, while those who fall short have to play their snooker elsewhere.
Players who have been on the pro tour since before 2011 have never had to face the pressure of Q School to keep their careers alive, so you won't have seen the likes of Judd Trump, Ronnie O'Sullivan or Mark Selby scrapping it out for their tour cards.
That is not to say that Q School has not seen plenty of fantastic players over the years, though, with a number winning their places on tour and going on to win ranking events.
For the following list of the greatest graduates from Q School, they are being judged on what they have achieved since their graduations.
The likes of Fergal O'Brien, Joe Swail and Andy Hicks came back onto tour through Q School later in their careers, but their glory days were long before those times.
But there are plenty who have earned their place on tour through Q School and gone on to great things, so any players lining up in Leicester this week can be inspired by these 10 names.
In one of the biggest surprises in snooker history, Jordan Brown won the 2021 Welsh Open, beating Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final after downing Mark Selby and Stephen Maguire on his way to the showpiece.
Just one ranking semi has followed that, which will disappoint the Northern Irishman, but what a win to have on his CV.
Still just 23 years old, Jackson Page secured a brilliant piece of snooker history last month when he became the first player to make two 147s in the same match, doing so in World Championship qualifying.
The Welshman reached his first ranking final this season and is continuing to make his way up the rankings as one of the brightest young British hopes.
Similar to Brown's shock win, Fan Zhengyi pulled off a wild result by winning the 2022 European Masters, beating O'Sullivan in the final.
He also hasn't followed it up with more success but the Chinese is still only 24 and has shown more good flashes, including a run to the Champion of Champions semis.
Lei Peifan made a huge name for himself last season, firstly by winning the Scottish Open and then by beating defending champion Kyren Wilson at the Crucible.
The 21-year-old has not done a great deal else yet as a professional, but if those two performances are anything to go by there is a lot more to come.
The first player on this list to have reached the world's top 16, Jak Jones is also the first to have made it to a World Championship final.
His run to the Crucible Showpiece in 2024 was his career highlight so far and his challenge now is to bring his Sheffield game to the rest of the tour, having not been to any other final as yet.
Chris Wakelin has enjoyed a brilliant and much-improved two-and-a-half years on tour, stepping up at least one level from where he stood before.
Winning the Shoot Out in 2023 remains his only ranking title, but finals of the Northern Ireland Open and International Championship have followed, as has a Masters debut and a run to the quarter-finals at the Crucible this year.
One of the great rising talents in the game, but one who is yet to get his hands on any silverware, despite coming close.
Si Jiahui has been to two ranking finals and the semi-finals of the World Championship and Saudi Arabia Masters, with a trophy for the 22-year-old seeming only a matter of time.
In Gloucester back in 2014 Zhang Anda came through Q School and after years of not making many waves, he made his splash in the 2023/24 season.
Zhang won the International Championship and reached the finals of the English Open and Players Championship, soaring into the top 16 in the process.
Dave Gilbert had been on tour but fell off in 2011 and needed Q School to bounce straight back, just, losing in the first two finals before winning Event 3.
Since then he has been to five ranking finals, winning one of them, two World Championship and two Masters semis, reaching a high of number 10 in the world.
If any Q School hopeful this year needs some inspiration then look no further than the reigning world champion as Zhao Xintong graduated at the Meadowside Leisure Centre, Burton-upon-Trent in 2018. More Trending
The Cyclone won the UK Championship in 2021 and German Masters in '22 before being banned from the sport only to return and conquer the Crucible this month, seven years on from beating Dechawat Poomjaeng to win Q School Event 2 in Burton.
Honorary mentions go to the only future ranking event winner to come through Q School and not make this list, Michael Georgiou, and to Elliot Slessor who narrowly missed out on the top 10 because he's very good but is yet to reach a ranking final.
UK Q School this year begins on Wednesday May 21 with 171 players competing to claim just eight tour cards.

Brendan Rodgers turns Robbie Savage consultant as Celtic boss advice before taking Forest Green Rovers job revealed
The ex Premier League star is the new boss of the ambitious National League side Robbie Savage has revealed he sounded out Brendan Rodgers and Martin O'Neill before accepting the job at Forest Green Rovers. The former Wales international has taken charge of the National League side after four years with Macclesfield Town. After serving as a board member with the English minnows, Savage was appointed as manager last year and led the club to the Northern Premier League title last season to take them up to the sixth tier. But the confident Welshman has now stepped up a division to take up the reins at Forest Green, who missed out on promotion back to the EFL last month with a defeat to Southend United in the play-off semi final. And the 50-year-old says he consulted the two Celtic heroes before saying yes to the ambitious Gloucestershire, having enjoyed success as a player under O'Neill at Leicester City, where the Foxes won the League Cup back in 2000. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Fortunately for me I have worked with some unbelievable people. "I spoke to Martin O'Neill yesterday who is more than willing to come down, sit with me and have a coffee. "I've spoke to Brendan Rodgers and Sean Dyche, real football people. As soon as this opportunity came about they said 'it's an unbelievable opportunity for you. "As a manager I have tried to take little snippets from each one but I think I am a good motivator, a good man-manager and I believe I know how to get the best out of a collective and more importantly an individual. "I have been in their shoes numerous times and have suffered disappointments and experienced highs and lows. "If I can take little things from everybody, I think we'll do well." Savage's relationship with Brendan Rodgers is perhaps a result of his backing for the Irishman during his sticky patch in charge of Leicester. Rodgers faced calls for the sack in some quarters following a heavy 4-1 FA Cup defeat to then Championship side Nottingham Forest in February 2022, having won the competition the year before. Leicester had failed to get past the group stages of the Europa League that season but manage to reach the last four of the Conference League after dropping into the third tier competition. But following the loss to Forest, Savage came out in defence of the ex Liverpool boss, branding calls for him to get the boot as 'nonsense'. He told BT Sport: It's absolute nonsense, isn't it? Two fifth placed finishes, an FA Cup victory, rebuilding squads, the recruitment - surely he has credit in the bank for what he has achieved at Leicester. "It's one of the best Premier League appointments in recent years, one of them, for what he's done with that side. "He needs his best players on the pitch on a regular basis to compete. To compete for Champions League, Leicester City - they were in League One not so long ago. He's done amazing." Rodgers' ultimately left the Foxes by mutual consent in April 2023 shortly before their relegation from the Premier League, sealing his return to Celtic two and a half months later.

The window is set to explode for Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell with a host of deals inching forward Rangers have snapped up Max Aarons as the first signing for the Russell Martin era at - but there is plenty of work still to be done. Lyall Cameron has joined the Rangers squad having agreed a pre-contract move from Dundee when Philippe Clement was in the hot seat but with the American revolution in motion with sporting director Kevin Thelwell working on several outgoing and incoming stars. The crucial Champions League qualifiers against Panathinaikos is just around the corner and fans are desperate to see some movement in the market. So who looks to be coming in, and who is heading out? The mega money window is just beginning at Ibrox - and Record Sport has all the latest. Owen Beck Rangers are keen to land Owen Beck - but a deal could depend on two factors. Robin Propper Robin Propper has been offered a three-year deal to make the return to FC Twente - just 12 months after his move to Ibrox. However, the defender has reportedly put the move on hold until he discovers whether new boss Martin sees him as part of his plans at his new-look Rangers. Ben Davies Rangers have held talks with Birmingham City over the prospect of Ben Davies joining making his loan move from last season permanent. But, so far he has reported for pre-season training while Russell Martin weighs up his defensive options. Kieran Dowell The midfielder is in a similar position to Davies having impressed in the second half of last season on loan at the League One champions. But while City are said to be interest in a permanent move, the 27-year-old is being assessed by Martin as part of pre-season training. Rabbi Matondo The Welshman is reportedly sidelined through injury after returning from his loan spell at Hannover 96 in the second half of last season. Turkish side Gaziantep FK are said to be lining up a move with the club giving the green light for talks to being with the 24-year-old. Ross McCausland Ross McCausland has a host of clubs chasing his signature this summer amid an uncertain Ibrox future. It is understood that Cardiff and Plymouth Argyle, as well as MLS club FC Cincinnati, have all registered an interest so far this summer. Metinho The Ibrox club were linked with a move for the 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder this week after his successful loan spell at FC Basel. He helped them to a Swiss cup double this season, but his loan spell has expired and he is back at French second tier outfit Troyes. Rangers face a battle for any deal with Basel sports director Daniel Stucki declaring: "We want to start the season with three or four proven midfielders. It's no secret that we want to sign Metinho permanently. Negotiations with his club are still ongoing." Samuel Ballet Rangers have reportedly held "concrete talks" with Como over winger Samuel Ballet. A new wide man is on the Ibrox shopping list following the departure of Vaclav Cerny at the end of last season with QPR winning the race for target Kwame Poku. And Blick Sports claims that Rangers officials have been holding talks with the Serie A side over a move for the 24-year-old who spent last season on loan at FC Zurich. Record Sport understands Rangers are still waiting for Lille to make an acceptable offer for Hamza Igamane. The Ligue 1 outfit are expected to step up their interest in the coming days. They are preparing an initial bid of between £13 to £15 million for the Moroccan international, with a number of add-ons built in. Lille have already agreed personal terms with Igamane's camp. Cyriel Dessers New owners 49ers Enterprises are holding out for £5million for striker Cyriel Dessers from Greek side AEK. AEK boss Marko Nikolic, however, has insisted a deal is not imminent stating: "In attack we are good with Zini, Pierrot, Martial and even Eliasson. "We are working on the left-back, but we have time. Full-backs on the market are always a difficult matter. It is not a big issue, we are also looking for a player for another position." Mohamed Diomande Turkish giants Besiktas have reportedly launched a big money offer for Mohamed Diomande - with Everton also monitoring the 23-year-old. A bid worth between €10-12 million (£8.6-10.2million) has been lodged, according to reports in Turkey, by Besiktas with "talks between the two parties are ongoing." Joe Rothwell Joe Rothwell is set to reunite with Russell Martin at Rangers after the expiry of his Bournemouth contract. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Leeds United and is expected to become the second signing of the summer at Ibrox. Conor Coady The Light Blues are expected to get the go-ahead from Leicester City over the next 24 to 48 hours to sign the former England international. Rangers are ready to offer the 32-year-old a long term deal to get him to Ibrox with sporting director Kevin Thelwell keen on a deal for the experienced star he signed for Wolves and Everton. Dor Turgeman Rangers are working on a deal for the Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman - with reports in Israel suggesting he is keen on the move. However, it is claimed that the Premiership side will look to sell either Igamane or Dessers before sealing a £5million deal. Nicolas Raskin The midfielder is attracting interest from Wolves - but Rangers have been warned that now is not the right time to cash in on the midfielder. Former Ibrox striker Andy Little told STV: 'I know it's a business, and you have to try and cash in on players at the right time, and I think both sides of the Old Firm are looking to do that, Celtic have certainly done it better than Rangers. 'That is the business model now, however, you can't go losing your best players, especially considering there are so few ready to step into that position this season. 'So I don't think they should (consider selling), it would need to be serious money to let him go.'
