Short-term Interbank Rates Close Steady On BNM Operations
KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Short-term interbank rates ended steady today following Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) operations to absorb surplus liquidity from the financial system.
Liquidity in the conventional system rose to RM17.0 billion from RM16.96 billion this morning, while liquidity in Islamic funds increased to RM30.4 billion from RM24.85 billion previously.
Earlier, the central bank conducted a reverse repo tender and an overnight reverse repo tender.
It also announced the availability of reverse repo, sell-and-buy-back agreements, and collateralised commodity murabahah facilities with tenures of one week, one month, and three months.
BNM also revised the murabahah overnight tender from RM24.9 billion to RM30.4 billion.
At 4 pm, BNM called for a RM17.0 billion conventional money market tender and a RM30.4 billion murabahah money market tender, both with three-day maturities.
The Malaysia Islamic Overnight Rate (MYOR-i) stood at 2.75 per cent as of July 24, 2025.

IFRC recognises MAIPs for Kenya-based agricultural aid initiative
KUALA LUMPUR: The "Ndengu Revolution" project, spearheaded by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), has received formal recognition from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The recognition honours its transformative contribution to improving the lives of vulnerable communities in the post-drought region of Kitui, Kenya, through sustainable agricultural and community-based recovery programmes. The initiative, which began in 2018, represents a medium- to long-term recovery effort, involving the distribution of ndengu (mung bean) seeds, agricultural inputs, livelihood support and capacity-building for the local population. IFRC regional director for Africa, Charles Mbeeta Businge, said Malaysia's efforts through MAIPs demonstrate that zakat, as an Islamic instrument, can function effectively across borders, particularly in strengthening community resilience against disasters and prolonged poverty. "This project is an excellent example of how Islamic philanthropy can be integrated into the global humanitarian agenda with professionalism and integrity," he said. He made the remarks during a roundtable session with the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, held recently in Nairobi as part of the Safar Ilmi MAIPs 2025 programme. Accompanying His Royal Highness were Malaysia's High Commissioner to Kenya Ruzaimi Mohamad; Perlis muftiDatuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin; and MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor. MAIPs' work has been highlighted in several international IFRC publications, including The Transformative Power of International Zakat and Your Duty for Their Dignity, both now widely referenced in the field of global Islamic philanthropy. IFRC's senior officer for innovative finance, Islamic philanthropy and the private sector, Ramya Gopalan, praised MAIPs for playing a pivotal role in expanding global understanding of zakat as a responsive development instrument. She said that MAIPs is also part of the IFRC Islamic Philanthropy Advisory Group, which provides strategic policy guidance and frameworks for implementing humanitarian aid rooted in Islamic principles. During the same session, the IFRC expressed appreciation for MAIPs' involvement in the 2018 Kenya Drought Project, which served as the foundation for the long-term Ndengu Revolution initiative.

Deputy Agriculture And Food Security Minister Heads List Of Pahang Award Recipients
GENERAL KUANTAN, July 26 (Bernama) -- Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup heads the list of 58 recipients of state awards, honours and medals in conjunction with the 66th birthday of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. The awards were presented by the Sultan at an investiture ceremony held at Balai Mahkota, Istana Abdulaziz, here today. Also in attendance were the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, and the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and members of the state leadership were also present. TVET applications surge to 229,000 as demand for skilled workers grows
KANGAR: Applications for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes have surged from 25,000 to 229,000 over the past two years, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced. The increase reflects growing awareness of TVET's career potential, particularly in high-demand fields like welding, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Ahmad Zahid, who chairs the National TVET Council, said the rise in interest stems from parents and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers recognising the financial benefits of vocational training. 'TVET graduates can earn premium salaries, not limited by the government's minimum wage of RM1,700. For instance, welding courses offer starting salaries of RM7,500,' he told reporters after officiating the Kangar UMNO Division Delegates Meeting. He noted that Malaysia currently has 1,398 TVET institutions, with strong demand for skilled workers from foreign direct investment companies. 'We are expanding course offerings to meet workforce needs, including AI, IoT, and robotics. Private institutions are already leading in these areas,' he added. - Bernama
