Holly Willoughby faces major blow as her Netflix show Celebrity Bear Hunt 'faces the axe after just one series unless mega-budget is cut'
The second series of the jungle adventure show, which was held in Costa Rica, is yet to be approved despite several meetings.
It's been reported that the show, which proved to be a hit with viewers and critics, needs to have mega-budget cuts if it is to return with hosts Holly, 44, and Bear Grylls, 50, likely to face pay cuts.
A cheaper location is also being sought, as well as plans for fewer expensive celebrities after the likes of Spice Girl Mel B and tennis player Boris Becker were among the 12 stars in the first series.
Other celebrities that took part included Lottie Moss, Danny Cipriani, Big Zuu, Joe Thomas, Kola Bokinni, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Leomie Anderson, Shirley Ballas, Steph McGovern and Una Healy.
A source has now told The Sun: 'It got excellent reviews and was a brilliant production. Bosses were happy with its performance.
'Yet if it is recommissioned, cuts will 100 per cent be made and this could include talent salaries — both Holly and Bear as well as the celebs.
'All measures are being explored. As to location, think Clacton or Croatia, not Costa Rica.'
MailOnline have contacted Netflix, Holly Willoughby and Bear Grylls ' representatives for comment.
There was high drama on the show, which first aired in February, when interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen became tangled in some ropes while rafting, lost consciousness, and had to be revived on the beach by Grylls.
Llewelyn-Bowen said: 'I had a nasty moment where I was actually blacked out on the beach and I came to and I saw this beautiful blonde with sunlight behind her … and luckily it was Holly!
'When she leaned forward and said: 'You alright, Laurence?' I knew it was Holly ... but if the angel Gabriel looks anything like Holly Willoughby, I think the angel Gabriel is gonna be very chuffed.'
Holly now appears to be taking her TV career in a new direction as she is now without an ITV show following Dancing On Ice's axing.
She recently dashed ITV's hopes that she would be their Saturday night star by turning down a lucrative deal to front game show You Bet!.
ITV sources told the Mail she was 'busy with other commitments' after Holly branched out to host Celebrity Bear Hunt in her first big role away from ITV.
It is the first time that Holly has not had an ITV show on her schedule for the first time in more than two decades after becoming the broadcaster's TV darling.
She has long been a familiar face on both ITV and ITV2, hosting on shows including Surprise Surprise, Celebrity Juice, The Games, The Xtra Factor and I'm A Celebrity.
Holly is arguably best known for having fronted This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield from 2009 until 2023, while she also helmed Dancing On Ice from 2006.
However, ITV viewers now won't be able to get a dose of Holly as there has not yet been any public news of her having signed on to another project with the channel.
In a huge blow to ITV, Holly then turned down a lucrative deal to front a new series of the classic game show You Bet! because of her other commitments.
A source told the Mail: 'You Bet was so popular with the viewers wished it came back for two shows that ITV bosses decided to give it a full run.
'Holly and Stephen are a great double act and they were both brilliant so they were asked back.
'But Holly politely declined, she has other commitments and couldn't make it work.
'She is in demand and now she isn't shackled to This Morning four days a week, she is able to look at more options, some are global.
'Celebrity Bear Hunt was a huge thing for her, her first role with Netflix and she just loved it and they loved her so there could very well be much more where that came from.

James explained he was bringing British gravy granules to his wife Clair's Scottish auntie Dora. But after confiscating his meaty contraband he is now on a watchlist and his boarding pass for US flights is marked SSSS (Secondary Security Screening Selection). On his and Clair's The Buckleys podcast, he said: 'Anytime I go to America I have to open my suitcase, not because I was smuggling drugs . . . it's because I tried to get some OXO cubes into the country.' Talking in the September edition of the magazine, Sheridan discussed meeting Ann while filming, saying: 'It's probably the hardest job I've ever done, partly because I wanted to do Ann Ming's story justice. 'She's a little firecracker of a woman who took on the establishment and won. 'She's my hero. 'I was thrilled to be asked to play her and couldn't wait to meet her. 'Her story hit especially hard as I'm a mum myself now.' 'I instantly loved her. 'She's salt of the earth. 'Tough, yet vulnerable. 'She's been through unthinkable things. 'But I was nervous because she's such a strong lady. 'She came on set one day and I was smoking. 'She said, 'Put that out! That's not very me.' 'I was like, 'Yes, Ann. Yes of course.' Love Island receive over 1,000 complaints following 'bullying' scenes
Ofcom has revealed that Love Island received over 1000 complaints by viewers about the ITV2 show last week, with many outraged by Islander Harrison's 'misogynistic' behaviour Ofcom has revealed that Love Island received over 1,000 complaints last week, with viewers accusing Harrison and other contestants of displaying "misogynistic" behaviour. A total of 1,071 complaints were made across four episodes last week, with Friday's episode drawing in the highest number - 527 complaints. Ofcom told The Mirror that 280 of the complaints were related to "misogynistic behaviour, most notably by Harrison, Harry and Dejon," while 247 focused on "bully behaviour and mental wellbeing of contestants, most notably linked to Shakira being bullied" during the 18 July episode. Meanwhile, fans had already threatened to contact Ofcom last week over Shakira's treatment by Harry, Harrison, and Dejon, particularly after Harrison referred to Shakira and Conor as a "one-sided couple." As for the other episodes which received complaints, Sunday 20 July had 222 viewers complain over "alleged misogynistic behaviour by Dejon." Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 15 July, a total of 221 viewers lodged complaints, with the majority expressing concern over the "alleged misogynistic behaviour by Harrison." However, 44 were related to "how Lauren was portrayed in the edit of the episode" and 34 were about the "alleged bullying behaviour towards Shakira and Toni." For the episode on 17 July, 69 viewers complained about Harrison's "alleged misogynistic behaviour", while 27 complained about "alleged bullying behaviour and expressed concern for the mental wellbeing of Shakira." Ofcom has not yet confirmed whether it will launch an investigation into ITV in response to the complaints. ITV has several duty of care protocols in place, including providing Islanders with training before entering the villa that covers language, behaviour and the importance of mutual respect in relationships. It had been a pretty dramatic week inside the Love Island villa, with Lauren - who was previously coupled up with Harrison - being dumped from the villa after she was left single. Just a day later, viewers watched as Harrison chose to leave the villa and follow Lauren, with the controversial contestant revealing he still had feelings for him. During last Tuesday's episode, which received over 200 Ofcom complaints, viewers were left shocked after ITV aired a saucey bedroom exchange between Harrison and Lauren. Harrison could be seen reaching over to Helena and Harry's bed in the night and asking: "Do you have a condom?" Helena quickly grabbed one from a drawer, and Harry handed it over before the couple slipped under the covers. However, fans were unimpressed by the moment, especially since Harrison had recently admitted he still had feelings for his ex, Toni. Taking to X, one viewer wrote: "Did Harry just pass a condom to Lauren and Harrison???! I didn't know I was watching too hot to handle," while a second shocked fan said: "I have never. In all my years seen someone ask for a condom on #loveisland. Like yayyyyy for sexual safety but that is tooooooooooo much."
