This actually happened on Tuesday on Trichy-Chennai highway near the Paranur toll plaza.
Police said Kamalakannan was driving a truck with M-sand from Chengalpet towards Vandalur when, at the Paranur toll plaza, he found there was insufficient balance in the FASTag account. So, he parked the truck by the roadside and called up its owner, Anbu, a resident of Kelambakkam in Chengalpet.
Just then a man lurking near the toll plaza suddenly jumped into the lorry and drove away toward Chennai.
Kamalakkannan informed patrolling police teams who via walkie-talkie alerted police stationed at Mahindra City and Singaperumal Koil. They set up barricades, but the truck crashed through and sped away. Policemen gave chase on two-wheelers. One of them climbed on to the speeding truck and tried to pull the suspect out.

Eventually, near Maraimalai Nagar railway station, the hijacker crashed the lorry into a roadside barrier in an attempt to escape. Police surrounded and captured him after a brief struggle. Witnesses said they were lucky, no one was hurt during the truck's reckless journey.
Police identified the runaway driver as Subash, 35, from Palayamkottai. Police said Subash had been wandering around the Paranur toll plaza for the past two days, apparently mentally unwell. They suspect that the previous night he broke into a nearby temple and stole construction materials. He also reportedly attempted to rob women walking alone in the area.
Subash has been sent him to the Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, for observation.

She shared how the victim fell into the trap of her old classmate who had meticulously followed her posts and learned about her weekly house parties. "The peddler noticed that the victim hung out with a close group of women every weekend. He began suggesting ways to make the parties more exciting, eventually introducing the idea of trying MDMA," Rani added. In another recent case, a 16-year-old had to be brought to the Institute of Mental Health and later admitted to a rehabilitation centre with extreme aggression and self-harming tendency after he got addicted to alprazolam. 'One of my patients, a Class 11 student studying in Pune, said he gets his drugs from Pune and supplies it to his schoolmates back in Hyderabad during house parties,' said Dr Charan Teja Koganti, aneuropsychiatrist. 'I've seen a similar case where someone returned from Karnataka for a reunion and got others hooked on cannabis. Man accused of sexually assaulting minor dies day after he was beaten
Indore: A 27-year-old man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a minor girl died on Thursday, a day after he was beaten by the minor's family in Sirpur area under Chandan Nagar police station limits. "A man accused of abducting and raping a minor was beaten up by her family members after they found him with her. When the minor was missing, a case of abduction was registered. Then he was about to be booked for rape and under relevant sections of POCSO but he died on Thursday. We are in the process of registering a case of murder against the accused who thrashed the man," additional commissioner Amit Singh said. Singh said that the 13-year-old girl was reported missing late on Tuesday night. 2 women, minor among 4 held with 60L stolen valuables
Bhopal: Chunabhatti police on Thursday claimed to have arrested four individuals, including two women and a minor and recovered stolen cash and jewellery worth around Rs 60 lakh from them. The seized items include Rs18 lakh in cash, approximately 400 grams of gold, 2.3 kg of silver, and a scooter used in the crime. The minor was sent to a juvenile correctional facility, while interrogation of the other accused is underway. Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra said that the complainant, Urmila Jain, 65, wife of Ramesh Chandra Jain, a resident of Krishna Housing Society, Chunabhatti, filed a complaint stating that on June 24, she and her husband locked their house and went to their shop in Mandideep. When they returned around 8 PM, they found the latch of the door broken and household items scattered inside. Upon checking, they discovered that jewellery and cash stored in the cupboard were missing. Based on the complaint, police registered a burglary case and launched an investigation. A special team was formed, which reviewed CCTV footage from around the crime scene and access routes.
