Dan Lanning named to Dodd Trophy preseason watch list
The Ducks have enjoyed tons of success in the last few decades, but Lanning has come to Eugene and transformed a great program into a college football powerhouse. Thanks to his excellence on and off the field, he is now being honored for his accomplishments.
Lanning won the Stallings Award earlier this year which recognizes a coach who exhibits great leadership and extraordinary humanitarian efforts. The Oregon head coach is expected to be in the running for another award this season after the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation released their watch list for this year's Dodd Trophy.
The foundation mentioned Lanning along with a slew of other notable names like Ryan Day of Ohio State and last year's winner Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame. The Dodd Trophy is widely considered to be the most esteemed coaching honor and Lanning has a great shot to win it.

4-star DL Deuce Geralds announces commitment date with Oregon Ducks among top schools
Some speculation among Oregon Duck fans was sparked on Tuesday night when 4-star defensive line target Deuce Geralds teased a recruiting announcement for Wednesday. There were questions about whether a commitment was on the horizon, or an announcement of top schools and a commitment date instead. On Wednesday, we got our answer. Geralds announced that he is down to five schools: the Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, and Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, and Ole Miss Rebels. More than that, Geralds announced that he will make his commitment official on August 2. Geralds is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 73 overall player and No. 9 DL in the 2026 class. While the Buckeyes were thought to be in the lead for a while, the Ducks have seemingly grabbed some momentum in his recruitment. After a recent run of commitments from the likes of 5-star Immanuel Iheanacho, 4-star Jalen Lott, and 4-star Tommy Tofi, Oregon climbed back into the top 10 of the national recruiting rankings. If they can add Geralds later this summer, it would keep them among the best in the nation for this cycle. 5-star LB Tyler Atkinson puts Oregon Ducks among top schools
The Oregon Ducks already have a total of three 5-star players committed in the 2026 class, and they're looking to add one or two more before all is said and done. One of those players, 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, made a recruiting announcement on Wednesday, cutting his list down to four schools and including the Ducks in the mix. Oregon was listed alongside the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and Clemson Tigers. Atkinson is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 9 player in the 2026 class and the No. 1 linebacker in the nation. He has been to Eugene a couple of times on visits and has hosted Oregon's coaches on in-home visits as well. While the hometown Bulldogs are viewed as the leader in Atkinson's recruitment, Oregon is still in the mix and pushing to land the elite player. No commitment date has been set as of yet, but Atkinson's commitment could come in the next few weeks. Joey O'Brien on Notre Dame: 'This place is amazing'
Top 2026 safety prospect Joey O'Brien thought he was going to be enrolling at Oregon. That is until he visited South Bend. The recent Notre Dame commit said his official visit with the Fighting Irish following his meeting with the Ducks was all he needed to know that he had found a new home. O'Brien was immediately wowed by the Irish, noting that he was swayed on the first night by his "amazing" experience. The Irish were scorching hot on the recruiting trail in June, landing O'Brien as well as top cornerback Khary Adams, among other top prospects. And July has been no different. Marcus Freeman and his staff certainly have comprised one of the strongest classes since the Lou Holtz era.
