Nia Coffey, Allisha Gray power Dream past Sun 79-55
Atlanta led 48-43 four minutes into the second half then took control with a 15-5 run to finish the third quarter. Gray had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists through three quarters.
Connecticut managed only seven points in the fourth and finished at 31% shooting.
Maya Caldwell added 12 rebounds and six assists and Rhyne Howard had 11 points and eight rebounds for Atlanta (3-2). Gray had seven rebounds and three assists.
Marina Mabrey led the Sun (0-4) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tina Charles and Olivia Nelson-Ododa scored 11 each.
Atlanta shot 41% and had a 52-34 rebounding advantage.
Atlanta missed nine of 10 3-pointers in the first quarter but still led 21-16.
Charles made back-to-back baskets to give Connecticut a 28-27 lead midway through the second quarter. Atlanta led 34-33 with a minute remaining in the half before Coffey hit a 3-pointer for a 37-33 Atlanta lead at the break.
Gray entered averaging 19.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists, and she has helped Atlanta weather a series of injuries. Offseason acquisition Brittney Griner missed Sunday's game with a knee injury, rookie Te-Hina Paopao was out with a facial injury sustained in the team's win over the Dallas Wings on Saturday, and Jordin Canada as yet to play while she recovers from a knee injury.

NEWTON, Iowa — Christopher Bell steeled himself as he headed toward Zane Smith's crew after last weekend's race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Bell went to apologize for wrecking Smith in overtime — the third consecutive weekend Smith has lost several positions in the final laps. 'I tried to sweep underneath him, and I tried to make it as last minute as possible so that he couldn't counter my move, and I misjudged my run, ran into the back of him and turned him to the right.' Bell would reach out to Smith but also wanted to speak to Smith's crew at Front Row Motorsports. So what was it like to approach people larger than him and angry at him? 'I'm not going to lie,' Bell said Saturday at Iowa Speedway in response to a question from NBC Sports. 'I was nervous, but I knew I deserved what was coming, so I'm like I'm going to own it. Then at Indy, Smith was running 13th when the contact from Bell wrecked him and Smith finished 31st. That's 46 positions lost in the final laps of the last three races for Smith. Good news, bad news for NASCAR Cup drivers ahead of weekend at Iowa Speedway Ryan Blaney won last year's inaugural Cup race at Iowa. Dustin Long, Despite the misfortune, Smith said the focus is on the positives in those races. 'My whole team, they aren't stupid, they see that we're running good and have speed when this happens,' he said. 'Now, if we were running 30th and get hooked, the guys are going to be pretty upset and just over it. It's far from that situation. My team has done an incredible job of grinding away.' Smith qualified 14th for Sunday's Cup race at Iowa (coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET on USA). 'I feel like what we've unloaded some of these weekends, we just have a really good car,' Smith said.
