
Exhibit highlights working women's rights
The Punjab Arts Council organised a poster exhibition at the National Women at Work Festival, which was held on International Women's Day.
The exhibition aimed to highlight women's rights, their struggles, their role in societal development and the challenges they face while they work both at home and professionally. Various artworks depicting themes such as women's empowerment, education, equal rights, the prevention of violence against women and their contributions to society were showcased. Renowned and emerging artists paid tribute to the courage, resilience and sacrifices of women through their creative works.
The event was graced by the esteemed social and cultural personality, Naheed Manzoor, as the chief guest. On this occasion, PAC Director Sajjad Hussain, Deputy Director Muhammad Shakoor and Assistant Director Muhammad Suleman were also present alongside the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Naheed Manzoor emphasised that women are the backbone of any society's progress, and acknowledging their talents is essential for development. She appreciated the efforts of the PAC, stating that such events play a crucial role in encouraging women. Director Sajjad Hussain reiterated the council's commitment to promoting women's rights. He stated that similar events would continue to be organised to raise awareness about women's issues and their rights.
The exhibition attracted a large number of attendees, including women from various walks of life, artists, students and citizens. The participants highly appreciated the exhibition held in honour of International Women's Day, praising the artists' creative contributions and paying tribute to their work.

NAPA celebrates classic Urdu literature
NAPA graduates take to the stage, praising iconic works of Urdu literature through performances and readings and engaging the audience with their tribute. Photo: EXPRESS The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) organised a three-day event titled Shaam-e-Adab at the Zia Mohiuddin Auditorium, where graduates of the institution captivated audience with dramatic readings of iconic works from Urdu literature. The event opened with a performance by former student Ameer Akbar, who brought to life Khan Saiful Muluk Khan, a satirical piece by the celebrated humorist Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi. This was followed by interpretations of writings under Unesco ki Chatri, presented by Mujhtaba Hussain, Kainat Muhammad, and Zubair Baloch. This is a travelogue in which the author attends a seminar during his trip to Japan and finds an umbrella there. A misunderstanding arises in his conversation with his wife in India, when she mistakes chatri meaning umbrella for chaatri meaning a student or a young woman and begins to doubt her husband's loyalty. The different roles of both the actors make the scene colorful. A moving tribute to Patras Bukhari's famous essay Marhoom Ki Yaad Mein was performed by Akhtar Abbas and Qadeer Ahmed, drawing appreciation from literature enthusiasts in the audience. One of the highlights of the evening came from NAPA graduate Zubair Baloch, who delivered a compelling reading of Basuday Ki Maryam by renowned writer Asad Muhammad Khan. His emotional range and nuanced delivery stood out among the evening's praised the high caliber of talent and the rich selection of classical prose, reflecting NAPA's enduring legacy in promoting performing arts and literature. The event drew a large turnout and concluded with resounding applause and appreciation for the young performers reviving timeless works of Urdu literature.
