NBA rumors: Why Nets are one of 2025 draft's most ‘desirable' landing spots
The Brooklyn Nets are uniquely positioned in this year's NBA draft. With five selections in the top 36 (8, 19, 26, 27, 36) and in the early stages of a rebuild, the team can offer prospects immediate playing time in the league's top market. Those factors have reportedly led Ace Bailey to pinpoint the Nets as one of his desired landing spots.

That sentiment isn't exclusive to the Rutgers star.
'One thing I've heard consistently over the last few weeks: Brooklyn is the favorite destination for a lot of prospects—and a lot of agents,' wrote NBA Draft analyst Rafael Barlowe. 'The Nets, who currently hold four first round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, have quietly become one of the most coveted landing spots in the league. Multiple agents, parents, and prospects have expressed that sentiment to me directly. Brooklyn checks two major boxes: it's a large market, which has potential off-court appeal in terms of brand deals and exposure, and more importantly—it offers playing time.'
ESPN's analysts relayed a similar message in their latest mock draft.
'While they are unlikely to roster five rookies, Brooklyn has brought in the vast majority of the draft for workouts, giving them more first-hand information on the class than any other team — the Nets are also viewed as a desirable destination by many agents, due to the minutes and opportunity they have available next season,' wrote Jeremy Woo.

After trading Mikal Bridges and reacquiring their 2025 and 2026 first-round picks from the Houston Rockets last summer, the Nets are embracing a full rebuild.

Some speculated that general manager Sean Marks may look to expedite that timeline with a star acquisition this summer. The Nets have had well-documented interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, the two-time MVP is reportedly content to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks into the start of next season.
With Antetokounmpo off the board, the Nets will likely be tanking again in 2025-26. Such a situation would offer their 2025 draft class an extended leash to find their footing without the pressure typically associated with playing in the league's top market.

Brooklyn will have an opportunity to land a high-caliber prospect with the No. 8 pick. Ace Bailey, Jeremiah Fears, Noa Essengue, Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel are among the players frequently linked to the team. With picks Nos. 19, 26, 27 and 36, plus veterans such as Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton at their disposal, the Nets could also look to trade up for a second lottery selection.

Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey named to Texas Athletics Hall of Honor
Assistant coach Royal Ivey is joining Kevin Durant and DJ Augustin (front office) as current Rockets who are in the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. Houston Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey, who previously played in college at the University of Texas and then for several NBA teams, will soon be inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. Ivey is among 10 individuals that will be recognized as the Class of 2025 during a Sept. 12 induction ceremony in Austin. Details on the ceremony are available here. From his Texas Hall of Honor biography: A four-year starter at both point guard and shooting guard during his career at Texas, Royal Ivey left his mark as one of the top one-on-one perimeter defenders in program history. A two-time Big 12 Conference All-Defensive Team selection, he finished his collegiate career ranked first in games started (126), tied for third in games played (133), and 24th in scoring (1,036 points). Ivey helped lead the Longhorns to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including three-straight trips to the Sweet 16 (2002, 2003, and 2004) and a spot in the 2003 Final Four. In addition to Ivey's extensive NBA ties, both as a player and assistant coach, the 43-year-old was also the head coach when South Sudan secured its first-ever Olympic berth and victory during the 2024 Olympics cycle. He has been considered for NBA head coaching jobs in recent years and might soon land one, though he's returning to the staff of Ime Udoka for at least one more season in Houston. As for the Texas Hall of Honor, Ivey joins Kevin Durant and DJ Augustin as current members of the Rockets who are part of that exclusive club of Longhorns legends. Durant was acquired by trade this offseason, and Augustin is a former player who is back with Houston as a front-office member. Both Durant (2006-07) and Augustin (2006-08) also played at Texas during the 2000s decade, although a few years later than Ivey (2001-04). More: Despite external coaching inquiries, Royal Ivey likely to stay with Rockets, Ime Udoka

Bills' James Cook firm on contract demands at training camp: 'I deserve what I want'
James Cook may be present at Buffalo Bills training camp this week, but he won't be backing down when it comes to contract negotiations with the franchise. Cook, the NFL's leader in rushing touchdowns last season, made his stance clear after participating in the first two days of camp. "We have talks," he said, via ESPN. "I mean, I deserve what I want, I need, and it's going to eventually happen." Reporters followed up, asking Cook if he feels confident the Bills will meet his contract extension demands. "I mean, however it happens, it's going to get done. Wherever it happens at," he said. The 25-year-old doesn't lack confidence, and that was seen this offseason when he went live on Instagram with a caption of "15 mill [per] year." If that is the case, Cook would be tied with Baltimore Ravens veteran Derrick Henry for the third-highest average annual value at the running back position in the NFL. Cook has posted previously on social media about his contract situation, and he noted Thursday he has no regrets about going public with how he feels. Bills GM Brandon Beane discussed Cook's situation with reporters at the start of training camp. "Sometimes you can't get on the same page, or sometimes you're trying to fit it in," Beane explained, per ESPN. "There's times guys have left here that we really wanted. We just couldn't make it work. But I can tell you, I'm hopeful, when we're sitting here at next year's training camp that James Cook is out there practicing and still representing the red, white and blue." Cook has one more year left on his rookie deal with the Bills, which took him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia. If Cook and the Bills can't reach an extension by next season, he would be a free agent unless the team decides to slap its franchise tag on him. Unlike other players, past and present, Cook was participating in the Bills' mandatory offseason practices while his contract negotiations were ongoing. "It's my job," he said about reporting. "I got to participate so I won't get fined and just come out here and just show them that I'm ready to go and earn what I got to go get." Cook called the Bills a "great organization" and one he wants to continue playing for. But he's made it clear where he stands, and it doesn't seem like he's willing to leave any money on the table. To go along with his 16 rushing touchdowns last season, Cook rushed for 1,009, his second straight year cracking the 1,000-yard mark after totaling 1,122 in a breakout 2023 campaign. While it's clear Cook is the lead running back on the depth chart, Ray Davis and Ty Johnson do spell him for snaps and have showcased abilities to help the Bills' dynamic offense get down the field and into the end zone. Cook played just 48% of offensive snaps over his 16 Bills games last season.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers says the quiet part out loud about interception at training camp
Aaron Rodgers is dominating headlines at Steelers training camp — but not in the way fans would hope. At Thursday's training camp, the noise surrounding Rodgers' interception on the opening throw of team drills was deafening — but the four-time MVP wasn't worried, downplaying the pick to two-time Pro Bowl LB Patrick Queen. "Man, it's good to get that out the way," Rodgers said, via ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "Anybody that's watched me practice over the years, you'd like to try certain throws at certain times. Anybody that's watched me in games knows I've been pretty stellar at taking care of the football over the years." While the first training camp practice didn't go his way, Rodgers' ball security over his 20-year career is no joke — boasting six entries among the top 15 single-season TD-to-INT ratios in NFL history. Rodgers will undoubtedly look to shift the narrative as training camp continues — starting with Friday's practice and a fresh set of reps.
