Seven Longhorns named Preseason All-Americans by Athlon Sports

With the start of the college football season just a few months away, expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns. That is due to a talented mix of veterans and new faces. On Wednesday, expectations continued to rise when Athlon Sports revealed its list of preseason All-Americans. Seven Longhorns made the list.
The Longhorns players who will be adding to their trophy cases are Arch Manning, Anthony Hill Jr., Colin Simmons, Jack Endries, Michael Taaffe, Manny Muhammad, and Tre Wisner. That group will play a key role in helping the Longhorns make a deep playoff run and ending their national title drought.
In that group, Manning, Hill, and Simmons all earned first-team honors. Entries and Taffe received second-team honors. Rounding out the list are Muhammad, who is on the third team, and Wisner, who is on the fourth team. While most of the Longhorns representatives are defensive players, Manning has the potential to be one of the best at his position.
Last year, the New Orleans native got limited action but dazzled when he was on the field. The talented quarterback completed 61 of his 90 passes for 939 yards. He also added nine passing touchdowns to his resume and averaged 10.4 yards a completion. Now that he is the starting QB, those numbers should skyrocket.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns have one of the best EDGE rushers in the country, Colin Simmons. As a freshman, he led the team in sacks with nine and recorded 14 tackles for a loss. He got some help from Hill, who led the Longhorns with 113 total tackles.
Over the next few weeks, these seven Longhorns should continue to make headlines. They are some of the most talented players at their positions, with hours of highlights to back it up. Due to their potential, big things could be on the horizon for Texas football.

2025 British Open shocker: Scottie Scheffler in the hunt for another major
If Scottie Scheffler had a weakness to his game, it was links golf; you don't get a whole lot of windy, cold-rain Scottish-style rounds growing up in Texas. We say "had" because, as you'd expect, Scheffler appears to have figured out links golf, given that he finished Thursday's first round of the British Open at -3, one stroke off the clubhouse lead. Scheffler doesn't have much experience at this major — this is just his fifth British Open in a career decorated with stateside wins. But look a bit closer; he has two top-10 finishes already, and he's gaining momentum as he gains experience with the strangeness and quirks of links golf. Thursday was a perfect example of his ability to handle links-style adversity. Although he only hit three fairways, he nonetheless managed to scramble his way right up to the top of the leaderboard. Consider, for instance, how he handled the tricky 17th: Only a pair of bogeys on the 9th and 11th marred Scheffler's round. Over the final three treacherous holes, Scheffler went birdie-birdie-par for a full-round 68. He'll go out on Thursday at 10:10 a.m. Eastern time. Texas Longhorns senior safety Michael Taaffe was one of three Texas players in Atlanta for the 2025 SEC media days. Taaffe along with the rest of Texas is confident ahead of the 2025 college football season. The Longhorns have a lot to be confident about. Texas is returning a ton of talent and advanced to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff last season before falling to the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Texas did miss out on one of their goals, to win the SEC championship, last season because of the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia beat Texas in Austin in a dominant defensive performance for the Bulldogs and then went on to topple Texas in overtime in the SEC championship. Taaffe and Texas will try to beat Georgia again in 2025, but this time it will be on the road. At SEC media days, Taaffe was asked what will be the difference this year to give Texas a huge SEC win. "Coach (Kirby) Smart is one of the most competitive coaches I have ever been against in my life," said Taaffe. "Like, physically hearing him on the sideline when I'm playing defense. I'm like who is this maniac?" "And it is their head coach trying to, you know, get a call or get something in and I think the team is embodied by the head coach. And he does a great job of embodying what their team is all about and to be honest, I think they out-physicaled us in that first game, so we gotta come with a physical nature and a sense of pride and knowing that if we want to get to where we want to go in December, then we gotta beat those guys," Taaffe said. Georgia and Texas will meet in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Georgia-Texas game will be UGA's final SEC game of the regular season and it could be a preview of the 2025 SEC championship. Georgia and Texas' rivalry grew significantly on the same day Georgia and Texas took the stage at SEC media days. Texas beat out Georgia for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson and then flipped five-star Georgia defensive line commitment James Johnson. The Dawgs and Longhorns have a budding rivalry and are both vying to be the best team in the SEC.
