Longhorns EDGE Colin Simmons makes big decision on future with Texas
Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons proved to be one of the best freshman in the country last season. Simmons had 48 total tackles, including 14 for a loss. He also led the team in sacks with nine and forced three fumbles. He went onto win the 2024 Shawn Alexander National Freshman of the Year. The Duncanville, TX native is on several preseason All-American lists and PFF ranks him as a top five rusher in college football. But Simmons has decided he wants to make a change. Simmons will switch from No. 11 to No. 1 for his jersey number. Being No. 1 on a team makes you stand out, especially as and edge rusher. Simmons announced the change on Instagram, just saying "1" in the caption. In the final slide of the post, Simmons posted this quote, "Accept what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be."

PFF College ranks Colin Simmons as a top five edge rusher in the SEC
During the 2024 campaign, Colin Simmons cemented himself as one of the best edge rushers in the nation. The Longhorns star was a human highlight reel while striking fear into his opponents. Ahead of his sophomore campaign, the Texas native is getting national praise. On Sunday, PFF College released its highest-graded edge rushers in the SEC. The Duncanville High School product finished in fourth place. He trailed only Tyreak Sapp, Joshua Josephs, and Keldrdic Faulk. Rounding out the list are Cashius Howell, LT Overton, and Dylan Overton. As Simmons looks to increase his stock, he has a good starting point. He is coming off a freshman campaign in which he was one of the Longhorns' best players. In 16 games, Simmons recorded 48 total tackles, including 14 for a loss. He also led the team in sacks with nine and forced three fumbles. Due to his play, Simmons won the 2024 Shawn Alexander National Freshman of the Year. With a talented supporting cast behind him, Simmons is poised to build on his success. He also has some of the best coaches in the nation in his corner to help him avoid a sophomore slump. That is not something many are worried about. Sunday was not the first time this offseason Simmons made headlines. Last month, the Longhorns edge rusher was named to Walter Camp's Preseason All-America Teams. He was one of two Longhorns to earn first-team honors, with the other being Anthony Hill Jr. If Simmons can replicate his play from last year, then his trophy case will continue filling up. Texas expects great things from Simmons this fall, and national outlets are backing up their faith.

Texas Longhorns EDGE Colin Simmons earns high ranking from PFF College
PFF's Top 50 College Football Players for the 2025 Season:#8: Colin Simmons, Texas🤘 90.0 Pass Rush Grade Last Season During his freshman season, Colin Simmons was one of the best EDGE rushers in college football. Due to his play, he enters the 2025 campaign as one of the Longhorns' most important pieces. He had also earned a great deal of recognition nationally, which was highlighted earlier this week when PFF College named Simmons the eighth-best player in the nation. In his first season as a Longhorn, Simmons recorded 48 total tackles in 16 games. He also made life difficult for quarterbacks with a team-high nine sacks. While the Duncanville High School product was getting his first taste of SEC action, he made the transition seem effortless. When the regular season came to an end, Simmons saw his hard work pay off. He won the 2024 Shawn Alexander National Freshman of the Year award winner, given annually to the best freshman in college football. The Longhorn star was also selected to Freshman All-America teams by ESPN, FWAA, PFF, and The Athletic. Although Simmons ranking comes as no surprise, it is another reminder of just how good he is. The only players ranked ahead of him were Jeremiah Smith, Caleb Downs, DI Peter Woods, Jeremiyah Love, Spencer Fano, Leonard Moore, and Cade Klubnik. That is not bad company to be in. With their eyes set on a national title, the Longhorns will need another big season from Simmons. For the talented sophomore, that should be no issue, as he showed no signs of slowing down last year. It was only the start of what looks to be a special career in Austin. PFF College, like many, sees Simmons as not only one of the best players in the nation but a player who can change the course of a game with one sack or tackle for a loss. How he follows up his freshman season should be fun to watch.
