‘Chinar Corps will invariably send terrorists to meet their maker': Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai
In a post on X, Lt Gen Ghai highlighted the harsh terrain and operational challenges security forces face during anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
'Sometimes, when you despair that results are not forthcoming, you only need to spare a thought for the tough terrain and conditions that affect such operations,' he wrote.
He went on to commend the Chinar Corps' commitment to national security, saying, 'Never forget that the Chinar Corps will invariably send terrorists to meet their maker. Salute to the valiant warriors of this exalted outfit of the Indian Army.'
The remarks came soon after the confirmation that three terrorists were killed in a joint operation, codenamed Operation Mahadev, launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Lidwas region near Dara, close to Dachigam National Park.
Suleiman Shah, also known as Hashim Moosa, was the mastermind behind the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
Suleiman Shah had previously served in the Pakistan Army, reported NDTV. He was affiliated with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
'It is a prolonged operation and is still continuing in which J&K police, paramilitary and army have an exchange of fire (with terrorists) in higher reaches. As per the interior reports, three bodies are being observed and seems to be neutralised. It is an ongoing operation and I would not like to divulge much at this moment. We will share details with you at an opportune time. It will take us some time for identification and all that. The (security) parties are still inside,' IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi told the media.

The other two terrorists' identities remain unconfirmed, and their bodies have also not been found; hence, officials have not confirmed their deaths yet. Reports suggest they may be linked to the LeT terror outfit responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. Four soldiers have been injured during the intense firefights, with no fatalities reported among the forces. The injured soldiers who are said to be in stable condition are admitted to the army hospital. The operation remains active, with intermittent and intense gunfire continuing through the night. Security forces have tightened the cordon to prevent any terrorists from escaping. The dense forest terrain and natural caves have made body retrieval and locating active terrorists challenging. Security forces believe 2-3 terrorists are hiding in the forest area. The operation began on August 1, 2025, following specific intelligence about the terrorist presence in the dense Akhal forest. It involves a joint team of the Indian Army elite force PARA Commandos Jammu and Kashmir Police, and SOG Commandos, the Army's RR, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Operation Akhal follows other major operations like Operation Mahadev, where three LeT terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack were killed, and Operation Shiv Shakti, where two infiltrators were killed. The Akhal operation is part of a broader intensification of counter-terror efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, with around 20 high-profile terrorists eliminated since the Pahalgam attack. Operation Akhal is described as potentially the largest anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir this year due to its scale, duration, and the use of advanced military resources. It reflects the security forces' aggressive stance against terrorism. The operation is continuing and for the night will be halted and will resume with the first light of the day.

'If you were a true Indian, you would not say this," SC raps Rahul Gandhi over Army remarks
New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) The Supreme Court today pulled up Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks against the Indian Army during the 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra, questioning the veracity and propriety of his statements. The Court said such comments were unbecoming of a 'true Indian' and sought to know the basis for his claims regarding Chinese incursions. A Bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice AG Masih was hearing Gandhi's plea challenging a defamation case filed over his December 16, 2022, remarks made after a border clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh. 'If you were a true Indian, you would not say all these things,' Justice Datta observed during the hearing. The Bench questioned Gandhi's claim that 2,000 km of Indian territory had been occupied by China. 'Are you there? Do you have any credible material? Why would you make these statements without anything?' Justice Datta questioned the credibility of statements and said that public figures have a responsibility when making sensitive statements. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Gandhi, argued that the remarks were political in nature and made in the public interest. He read out the actual statements made by Gandhi and contended that the defamation complaint was politically motivated. 'There is a technique now, become an MP and file defamation for any criticism,' Singhvi submitted, arguing that the complaint was an abuse of the legal process. However, the Court appeared unconvinced, and Justice Datta further asked why such comments were made via social media instead of being raised in Parliament. Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia, appearing for the complainant Uday Shankar Srivastava, opposed the plea and submitted that the High Court had already examined the issue. He stated that relevant materials and statements were on record justifying the continuation of proceedings. The defamation case arises from Gandhi's statement, 'Chinese soldiers are beating up Indian Army personnel,' which the complainant claimed was defamatory and demoralising to the armed forces. Earlier, on March 29, 2025, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had dismissed Gandhi's plea challenging the Magistrate Court's summons in the matter. Despite the scathing observations, the Supreme Court today issued notice and granted an interim stay on further proceedings in the defamation case. The matter will be heard again after three weeks. Separately, on May 27, a special MP-MLA court in Varanasi dismissed a petition against Gandhi over his reference to Lord Ram as a "fictional character" during a speech at a US university. The complaint, filed by Advocate Harishankar Pandey, was rejected as 'non-maintainable' under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. In another defamation case related to Gandhi's remarks against freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the Supreme Court on April 24, 2025, had stayed the Allahabad High Court's order refusing to quash the summons. During that hearing, Justice Datta had warned Gandhi against making 'further irresponsible statements,' cautioning that the Court may take up the matter suo motu if required.
