Sandy Alcántara Blockbuster? Cubs Trade Rumors Reaching New Peak
The Chicago Cubs came into the season needing to add some talent and depth to their pitching rotation. Following a few injuries, including a crushing elbow injury to Justin Steele, the Cubs' biggest roster hole has gotten even worse.
They've been linked to Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara as the solution to all their problems for a few months now, but no deal has come to fruition.
ESPN's Jeff Passan also linked the Cubs to Alcántara in a potential blockbuster trade that would give Chicago the controllable pitcher it needs.

"He has been tinkering this season to try to get his pitch mix and locations right in hopes of regaining his former glory. His 7.14 ERA is unsightly, and with the Marlins still valuing him as a top starter, they could hold on to him until the winter, when teams such as the Baltimore Orioles would be more inclined to acquire him and the final two years of his contract."
The Cubs are the clear top landing spot for Alcántara. They have top prospect Owen Caissie, who could be the headliner in the return to Miami. The front office in Chicago has also been quite aggressive over the last few months, so it wouldn't be shocking to see the team pull off another blockbuster deal.
The World Series window is wide open for the Cubs this year. If they're going to win it all, this might be their best shot. Acquiring Alcántara would be a huge move for the team right now, but it would give them a potential ace for the next few years, too.

The visit was part of Manfred's annual tour of MLB teams and he was only about five minutes into seeing the Phillies when Harper strongly interjected himself. A salary cap has long been a contentious issue, with MLB being the only major sport without some form of one, and appears to be so again with the league's CBA set to expire after next season. The Phillies are among MLB's highest spending teams, fourth in the league at $289 million, only trailing the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees. But The Post reported the commissioner's office would like some form of a salary cap and there is the expectation of a lockout that could jeopardize a large portion of the 2027 season. Until then, Harper will be mostly focused on keeping the Phillies on top of the NL East as they battle with the Mets in his attempt to win his first World Series. A second WNBA game has been plagued by a flying sex toy. On Friday night, a matchup between the Golden State Valkyries and the Chicago Sky was interrupted in the third quarter when the object flew across the court. The officials stopped the game to remove the lime green adult toy, and play continued. Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham issued a PSA after the moment went viral on social media. "Stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us," she wrote on X. Sky star Angel Reese jokingly blamed Fever guard Sydney Colson for the incident after Colson facetiously said it was her sex toy that had gone across the court earlier in the week. Golden State won the game, 73-66. Veronica Burton had 18 points in the victory. It's unclear whether anyone was ejected from the game, but it's the second instance over the last few days that a sex toy has interrupted a game, particularly a Valkyries game. On Tuesday night, it was Golden State going up against the Atlanta Dream. The Valkyries had rebounded a miss with about one minute left in the game when the object flew from the stands and down onto the court. The object bounced a few times away from the ballhandler and then toward the near sideline. The officials didn't immediately stop play once the object was thrown. The sequence continued until Golden State turned the ball over out of bounds.

The Chicago Bears hired head coach Ben Johnson to get the franchise back to its winning ways. But he was also brought in to maximize quarterback Caleb Williams' potential. We're still in the pre-season phase of Year 1, but Johnson's already had an impact on the second-year quarterback, who's still learning his way in the NFL. During a recent appearance on ESPN 1000's "Waddle & Silvy," Williams discussed a teaching moment from the first-time head coach. Williams talked about a scenario during practice where he had the offense driving down the field, but the headset inside of his helmet went out. He admitted that it frustrated him. According to Williams, Johnson went up to him and talked to him about always having two or three plays in mind, just in case something like this happens. A franchise quarterback can't be getting frustrated. Otherwise, he will fold when things get hard. Williams believes that Johnson helped him avoid losing sight of his goal in this situation. "We were marching down the field and the headset starting going out on me and I got kind of frustrated," Williams said. "Ben came over to me after and he was like 'have a few plays in mind if that ever happens.' That's more of accountability to me and to this team and having a few plays that if the clock's running down, headset goes out or it's spiking or something - you can't hear the play call - it's a have a few plays, go out there and don't go out there palms up and complain and things like that. Keep going." The headset going out or being unable to communicate well in a loud road building can happen in the NFL.
