Taylor Lautner Publicly Defended Selena Gomez After Her SAG Awards Appearance Sadly Resulted In Disgusting Discourse Around Her Weight

Buzz Feed27-02-2025

Taylor Lautner has taken to social media to chime in on an ongoing conversation surrounding speculation about Selena Gomez 's weight.
In case you didn't know, Taylor and Selena dated briefly back in 2009, when Taylor was filming Twilight: New Moon, and Selena was filming Ramona and Beezus. Speaking to Seventeen back then, Selena called their fling 'fun,' but confirmed that the two split because of media attention, saying, 'I knew he had paparazzi following him and I had paparazzi following me. People were getting a little crazy about us.'
Following her recent appearance at the SAG Awards, Selena — who is now happily engaged to Benny Blanco — has sadly been the subject of a ton of online scrutiny around her weight.
On Feb. 24, Glamour published an opinion piece titled, ' It's Okay to Feel Hurt When Celebrities Lose Weight—but Let's Unpack It,' with the title image being of Selena. The article stated that criticism of celebrities' weight loss was ultimately contributing to the unfair judgment of people without accounting for what may or may not be going on in their lives. The writer, Alex Light, said, 'If we want body neutrality—which I know I do!—we must give women the freedom to make decisions about their bodies without judgment.'
The following day, The View co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin agreed with the article's statements about celebrities' boundaries and defended Selena against the speculation occurring. 'Why look to a complete stranger for inspiration?' asked Sunny. 'You don't know what's going on in that person's life. Selena Gomez suffers from lupus, so weight is a part of that condition. And so she may have lost this weight for her health condition.'
'And it's none of your business!' Whoopi added enthusiastically, before continuing on to explain that celebrities' choices were nobody's decision but their own.
And yesterday, Selena's ex Taylor posted a statement on Instagram echoing the sentiment. Sharing a side-by-side photoset of Selena, he wrote a lengthy message asking people to be 'a little bit nicer.'
The images Taylor shared showed Selena in 2024 and 2025, alongside contrasting — but equally disgusting — comments made about her weight in either photo. One comment read, 'Really not to be mean, but it's tjme for Ozempic,' while another from a year later said, 'She looked better thicc.'
Under the images, Taylor wrote, 'It's a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience it doesn't make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters.'
He continued, saying, 'And it sure isn't the shape, color, or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out.'
He then reminded people to 'be a little bit nicer,' and added the 2011 Selena Gomez & The Scene song 'Who Says' to the post, which fans will remember was all about loving yourself for who you are.
Fans online have since called Taylor a 'green flag,' with one person saying that, 'This is the kind of ex that Selena deserves.'

Sabrina Carpenter shares new album cover 'approved by God' after backlash over racy image

Sabrina Carpenter shared a brand-new album cover "approved by God" after the pop star received backlash over the original art. Carpenter, 26, shocked fans with the announcement of her forthcoming album. She teased "Man's Best Friend" in a post shared to Instagram. The cover featured the "Nonsense" singer on her knees with a man holding her hair. The cover art sparked immediate backlash, with many commenting their thoughts on the post. "Am I the only one who thinks this is dehumanizing for women?" one user wrote. Another added, "This cover makes me uncomfortable… especially in times like these. Absolutely tone deaf." Carpenter seemingly took in the backlash and released a new album cover. "i signed some copies of Man's Best Friend for you guys," she wrote. "& here is a new alternate cover approved by God available now on my website." The "Manchild" singer recently opened up about the discourse around her song lyrics, which often include sexual innuendos. On tour, Carpenter performed various sex positions during her song "Juno." The moments often went viral, prompting complaints online. However, Carpenter said there's more to her music than meets the eye. "It's always so funny to me when people complain," Carpenter told Rolling Stone for the June cover story. "They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it. It's in my show. There's so many more moments than the 'Juno' positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can't control that. "If you come to the show, you'll [also] hear the ballads, you'll hear the more introspective numbers. I find irony and humor in all of that, because it seems to be a recurring theme. I'm not upset about it, other than I feel mad pressure to be funny sometimes." Carpenter noted women in the music industry are experiencing an intense amount of scrutiny over every decision made. "I don't want to be pessimistic, but I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me," she told the outlet. "I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now." Carpenter has also been vocal about the criticism she personally receives. As she performed across the world for her album, "Short 'N Sweet," many took to social media to slam the singer's skimpy outfits. "…you'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing," the "Taste" singer told TIME magazine. "And to that I just say, 'Don't come to the show,' and that's OK." "It's unfortunate that it's ever been something to criticize, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing," she added. "If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you've got to do." "Femininity is something that I've always embraced," she noted. "And if right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f---, then that's what that means."

Similarly, the 'Turn Me On' actress took to her Instagram Stories hours earlier to share her own post of the 'Umbrella Academy' star. Julia Shiplett/Instagram Advertisement While this marks Page's first public relationship since coming out as transgender in December 2020, it would not be his first romance since privately transitioning. In his 2023 memoir 'Pageboy,' the 'Inception' actor detailed a secret romance he shared with an unnamed celebrity who was also 'closeted' at the time. 'My partner was more closeted than me for a change,' Page wrote. 'We were together for almost two years, and even some of my closest friends were not aware I was in a relationship. Her parents did not know.' 7 Page came out as a transgender man in December 2020. Elliot Page/Instagram Advertisement 'It was not a sustainable relationship, just like when I had kept people hidden,' the actor, who was married to dancer Emma Portner from 2018 to 2021, continued. 'People didn't 'think she was queer,' but they definitely assumed I was, and I don't think she could handle the shame.' 'Ultimately, she had to do what was best for her, and unfortunately, it resulted in my heart being shattered,' Page concluded the passage. He also detailed his relationship with actress Kate Mara in the surprising tell-all memoir. 7 The 'X-Men' star detailed his experience as a trans man in his 2023 memoir 'Pageboy.' Instagram/@elliotpage 'The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara,' Page wrote, although the 'House of Cards' actress was dating actor Max Minghella at the time and later married Jamie Bell in 2017. Page also opened up about his romance with his 'Juno' co-star, Olivia Thirlby. 'We started having sex all the time: her hotel room, in our trailers at work, once in a tiny, private room in a restaurant. What were we thinking?' the actor wrote. 'We thought we were subtle,' 7 Page was previously married to dancer Emma Portner from 2018 to 2021. Elliot Page/Instagram Advertisement 'Being intimate with Olivia helped my shame dissipate,' he added. 'I didn't see a glint of it in her eyes and I wanted that — done feeling wretched about who I am.' But things quickly changed for the 'Whip It' star after he came out as trans, and in June 2023, Page told the Los Angeles Times that he was having 'the most fun I've ever had dating.' 'Interacting with people feels so much easier and more connected, because I'm not feeling lost in myself and not seen in the right way,' he said at the time.
