PM Modi revived 6 decade old Jamrani Dam project, aims for 2029 completion: Uttarakhand CM Dhami
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 27 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday conducted an aerial survey of the under-construction multipurpose Jamrani Dam project in Nainital district and reviewed the ongoing work at the site.
Speaking to ANI after the survey, the Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reviving the decades-old project that had remained stalled for over 60 years.
'First of all, I would like to thank PM Modi on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand that this project was long pending for more than 6 decades now...A lot of time went by, and governments came and went, but the work didn't begin. Under the leadership of PM Modi, the project has been approved. A target of 2029 has been given to complete the project. It is our effort to complete the project on time,' CM Dhami said.
Earlier in the day, CM Dhami also attended the launch of the book 'The Emergency Diaries: Years that Forged a Leader', where he described it as more than just a book, calling it an 'experience that touches the heart.'
He said the book tells the story of a time when speaking out was considered a crime and staying silent was seen as a form of surrender.
'In these pages, one finds the shadow of such a personality, who kept the torch of his thoughts burning even in that silence. The leadership that has become the voice of India on the world stage today has been tempered in the heat of struggle,' Dhami said.
He said that while reading this chapter of the life journey of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the mind fills with pride.
'The Emergency Diaries - Years that Forged a Leader' book published by BlueKraft is based on first-person anecdotes from associates who worked with young Modi, and using other archival material, the book is a first of its kind that creates new scholarship on the formative years of a young man who would give it his all in the fight against tyranny. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is working to promote green energy with coordination in the economy, ecology and technology. "Clean and green energy is being promoted in the state through the chief minister solar self-employment scheme. Hydroelectric projects like Tehri, Koteshwar, Pipalkoti, Lakhwar, and Vishnugad in the state are playing an important role in establishing Uttarakhand as an energy hub. He said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, petroleum reserves have been established for the energy security of the country. "Solar energy is also being promoted along with green hydrogen. Work is being done on many alternative sources of energy. All these efforts have made India capable in the field of energy," he said. The chief minister said that many works have been done in the field of oil and natural gas. Gas pipelines are being expanded under One Nation, One Grid. The gas distribution system has been expanded and made more convenient than before. Bio CNG plants are being set up. Schemes like the Ujjwala have brought a revolution in society. Many policies have also been implemented for oil production. India has also increased investments in the oil and natural gas sector abroad, the chief minister said. ‘Constitution was made a puppet': PM Modi recalls emergency on Mann Ki Baat
New Delhi, June 29 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invoked the memories of the Emergency period (1975–77), calling it a "murder of the Constitution" and warning citizens to remain vigilant against any such threats to democracy. Without naming the Congress or then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Modi in the123rd episode of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, strongly criticised the imposition of the Emergency, stating that it not only subverted constitutional values but also reduced the judiciary to a "puppet". 'Those who imposed the Emergency not only murdered the Constitution but also made the judiciary their puppet,' he said, adding that the atrocities committed during the 21-month period should never be forgotten. 'People were tortured on a large scale, students were harassed, and freedom of expression was throttled,' he noted. The Prime Minister played archival clips from speeches by former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as well as former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram, all of whom were prominent figures in the opposition to the Emergency. He also referred to the arrest and treatment of socialist leader George Fernandes, noting that many were detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) without trial. 'Many people were subjected to severe torture. Under MISA, anyone could be summarily arrested. Students too were harassed. Freedom of expression was also stifled. Thousands of people who were arrested during that period were subjected to such inhumane atrocities. 'But it is the strength of the people of India… they did not bow down, did not break down and did not accept any compromise with democracy. Finally, the people at large won – the Emergency was lifted and those who imposed the Emergency were defeated,' said the PM. Marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, which was observed recently as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas (Constitution Murder Day), Modi emphasised the importance of remembering those who fought to uphold democratic values. "Just a few days ago, the imposition of Emergency on the country completed its 50 years. We countrymen have observed the 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. We should always remember all those people who fought the Emergency with fortitude," said the PM.
