TTD to explore AI tools for reducing darshan wait time
Tirupati: A major proposal to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) for enhancing the pilgrim experience is expected to be the key aspect of the agenda when TTD Trust Board meets on Tuesday under the chairmanship of BR Naidu at Annamayya Bhavan at Tirumala. The board will review a concept note and presentation developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), outlining a virtual queue management system aimed at cutting darshan waiting times to just two hours. The board will also consider a separate proposal to develop an AI-powered chatbot, designed to assist pilgrims with information, bookings, and other digital services. The chatbot initiative is expected to cost over Rs 1 crore, with approval sought to engage a specialised agency for its development. These technological upgrades are part of a broader agenda that includes key decisions on temple infrastructure, pilgrim amenities and administrative reforms. Among the pressing issues is the decongestion of the Central Reception Office (CRO), which handles daily accommodation allocations for thousands of devotees. A proposal to modernise the Kalyanakatta complex, where pilgrims offer hair tonsure, will also come up for discussion. Improving access to the hill shrine remains a priority, with the board likely to appoint consultants for upgrading the Alipiri and Srivari Mettu footpaths, as well as the Alipiri check-post. The demolition of old and dilapidated cottages is expected to receive final clearance, alongside a policy decision to convert some cottages into limited-period booking units to optimise accommodation. The board will also examine the approval of M/s RPMC for implementing a comprehensive solid waste management system across Tirumala. A detailed proposal for VQC-III, a new pilgrim waiting complex, will be presented, along with plans for developing premium and budget lounges to improve pilgrim comfort. Proposals for the architectural development of Sila Thoranam and Chakra Theertham, two spiritually significant and eco-sensitive spots, are also on the agenda. The board will also deliberate on a new donor cottage policy to streamline the management of donor-funded accommodations and address the long-standing issue of 151 unauthorised hawker licenses in Tirumala. On the security front, the board is expected to flash a green signal to the creation of a dedicated cyber security cell under the Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO).

Commuters throng underground as surface transport goes haywire

The Metro was a saviour when buses, mostly hired for rallyists, were unavailable and app-cab services were erratic. Till 3 pm, the Blue Line, which is the city's transportation lifeline operating along the North-South axis, recorded a sharp spike with 386,033 commuters. Green Line 2, or East-West Metro's Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section, ferried 39,528 people till 3 pm. Howrah was the Green Line's most crowded station, earning Rs 3.1 lakh (cash) till 5.30 pm. "Compiling revenue generated from other means like smart card, UPI, and the Metro app, Howrah station earned around Rs 5 lakh till 5.30 pm," an official said. The passenger count for Green Line 1, or East-West Metro's Sector V-Sealdah section, was 29,501 till 3 pm. The less-used metro lines were more crowded than usual. Till 3 pm, the Orange (New Garia-Ruby) and Purple (Joka-Majerhat) lines recorded 3,276 and 3,430 passengers, respectively. As passengers were trying to squeeze in, a few trains were briefly held up at Esplanade and Chandni Chowk stations because the compartment doors could not be closed. The compartments were packed with rally participants. I had to get down at Esplanade but could not. I went to Park Street instead and walked back," said Pritam Saha, a Lake Town resident who boarded a train at Belgachhia. Above the ground, the dearth of buses or any other means of commute gave daily travellers a harrowing time. "I waited for 20 minutes for a bus to Park Street, then decided to take the metro from Thakurpukur station to Majerhat where I waited for another 30 minutes for a bus. Joined three others around 10 am for a shared cab ride to Park Street that cost us Rs 600," rued Goutam Maji, a private firm employee. App cabs were cancelling at random. "At 8.30 am, at least four cab drivers cancelled rides to Esplanade," said Tanima Mondal, who was forced to opt for an app bike for twice the normal fare. Very few auto rickshaws were seen in the morning. Buses from both the northern fringes (Barasat, Rajarhat, New Town) and the south (Behala, Budge Budge, Amtala, Sonarpur, and Baruipur) weren't available since Sunday evening. State, CCL inks pact for mine tourism, bookings likely from next week
1 2 Ranchi: Taking a giant leap to bolster tourism sector in Jharkhand, state tourism department on Monday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), country's biggest coal sector PSU, for rolling out first ever mining tourism programme. The formal MoU signing ceremony was held in presence of state tourism minister Sudivya Kumar and CCL's CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh and officials from tourism department and the PSU. The agreement will be in force for five years. On the initiative, Kumar said, "The beginning of mining tourism here marks a historic step to turn a new leaf. Mining tourism will not only showcase our state's industrial strength but also provide tourists with a unique perspective on the state's mineral richness, legacy and its contribution in nation building. With this, we hope to add a new dimension to tourism, industry, and cultural heritage." To begin with, guided mine tour programme will begin from North Urimari Mines and depending on the success and response, officials said that new locations will be added gradually with the mutual consent between both the stakeholders. JTDC will provide CCL Rs 200 per person for on-site refreshment facilities," he said. As per the MoU, per group size will be between 10-20 individuals for the tour and tourism services will be available only two days a week, to be decided by CCL. "Only through advance bookings, one can avail this service," said Ranjan, adding that all the tourists will have to adhere to the rules set by CCL for visitor safety before and after entering the mines. "CCL will also provide expert guides to explain the mining operations to tourists," he said.
